Can anyone explain how the cowl flaps increments are set. I am trying to create a gauge to use in a 2D panel that will increment/decrement the cowl flaps by the same amount as the VC. It wouldn't matter except I want to use different BMPs instead of a rotating knob, for each step to match the equivalent gauge in the VC. These BMPs have been created from screenshots of the VC and are ready to go. If I use K:INC_COWL_FLAPS1 (or DEC) in the 2D gauge, I get increments of 10%, but the VC gauge (inbuilt in model) gives 12% (about) increments. This means that I cannot display a particular BMP for each step. My question is really ......where does the sim get the amount of inc…

Just designed this simple panel that mounts to the top of the saitek yoke and has space enough for 2 old ipads (glass cockpit style) running airtrack or similar app connected to the sim. What do you think? Would anyone with some this stuff already be mildly interested in one? Here's the concept: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9mawajpssm1v2rr/Panel%202.png?dl=0 Here's the prototype (missing some arduino powered buttons): https://www.dropbox.com/s/9sd5gx8n9sizgj0/20160812_174224.jpg?dl=0 Tried to keep things simple and cheap. Work in progress.

I'm working on an ancient Bamboo Bomber with the rather "crude" instruments of that era. I'm having trouble understanding why the default engine RPM seems to work properly... ...until prop pitch is adjusted, at which point engine RPM increases to absurd values! At fine pitch, engine(s) idle at ~357 RPM. At full throttle, engine RPM settles at ~967. At coarse pitch, engines(s) RPM increases at full throttle to an absurd 2,200 RPM! It would seem to me that if anything, RPM should decrease due to the additional "load" from the increased prop "drag." Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening. Better still does anyone know how to fix it?

Hi all Need some help installing the above into std. FSX with Doug's modified File. There are 3 files I can see that may be involved Trafficradar.dll TrafficInfo.dll Traffic.dll. Which files are used and where do they go. If files go in the Modules folder do they have to be declared in the DLL.xml. Thanks pve.

I want to lower the light output of a couple cockpit overhead lights. I found the lights stated in the Aircraft config in the effects folder and opened them with notepad. I would like to know which text has to do with the output or amount of light the light has?

Greetings, I have a interesting problem that recently popped up, maybe, hoping someone has seen this before. I thought your knowledge and expertise on all things gauges and panels could help me with this head scratcher. I recently noticed that the radios and some gauges effecting all of the FSX default aircraft that use (Bendix-King radios) are now blank panels.Aerosoft payware aircraft (BeaverX) is also effected the same way. I was really stumped about the Areosoft Beaver but then realized that there is a default FSX Beaver. The aircraft that I really care about is Manfred Jahn's C-117D Super DC-3 and the DC-3 v2, version 3 is not effected for obvious reasons. Other p…

Hi folks. I've got a great model of a powered paraglider, but the cfg file is way off as it flies more like a typical airplane than a paraglider. I'm just getting back into simming, and would appreciate any input regarding an approach to developing a cfg file for a paraglider for FSX. Will FSX even allow a paraglider model to be configured correctly? Appreciate any response. - Mark

Hi, I'm new and hopefully this is the right place to post this: I just bought the F1 GTN 750 and as expected I'm trying to put it into any plane I can. I've been reading every thread I can find on this subject. I don't really want to keep bugging the gurus on here with every aircraft, and also I'd like to contribute what I can as well, seeing that folks on here have been really generous with their coding. I realize that some planes have modeled pieces in the VC which you can't get rid of, but other planes, specifically Carenado and Alabeo have panels that are configurable, at least at first glance. So my question is... When I comment out the existing compon…

Hi there guys, Just my effort to bring this up to see if someone, somewhere knows of any fixes or secret projects around involving this model from FS9 being fixed or reproduced for FSX? I know about the A2A Spitfire which is a fantastic model, which I still own. However, and im sure many will agree, there is just simply something about the Mk IX model which tickles my fancy. The looks, the tail, and in some cases the bubble canopy is simply more attractive than the others. I own this Spitfire model (Plane Design) from the days of FS9. But very little has been said except on a few forums, which has not gone anywhere really. So im attempting the impossible here, askin…

What if one could merge the PMDG NGX VC with the QualitySims 757? Well, I did it successfully. Flies beautifully. Now I can get a 757 with full cockpit functionality. Weather radar, etc.... But to keep the FMC calculating properly, I had to change the weights of the 757 to match that of the 737-900. But, it is fun to fly!!! Stephen

The standard default Simicons are not luminous at night. Do the BMP's have to be modified or can I just use this code? <Gauge Name="Avionics Icon" Version="1.0"> <Image Name="Icon_Radio.bmp" Luminous="Yes" ImageSizes="12,12,19,19"/> <Mouse> <Help ID="HELPID_GAUGE_TOGGLE_RADIO_WINDOW"/> <Cursor Type="Hand"/> <Click>50 (>K:PANEL_ID_TOGGLE)</Click> </Mouse> </Gauge> It seems that some are luminous and some are not when I use the above code as a template for all the other Simicons. Thanks,Bob.

Lately I have been spending most of my FS time flying "war birds." I wonder if there is a way to tweak the torque so there is significant yaw when opening up the throttle and also when raising the tail on take off? The best example I have is the RAS Spitfire, which models this superbly. (And just about everything else!)... Other than adjusting the aircraft.cfg file, the only other tool I have is AirEd so maybe what I want to do isn't really possible with such limited tools (and skills) but no harm in asking. ps. If the new Flight1 Air Wrench tool can help me do this, that would make it worth buying for me... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Ian

Hi to all... I am looking into adding an aural alert sound for the FS9 default king air altitude selector, that will sound off once the altimeter reading passes 1,000ft before the selected altitude on the selector, and will sound off again intermittently when the altimeter reading drifts 200ft above or below the selected altitude on the selector... (I already have the .wav file for the sound) I was looking at Doug's XML sound gauge to facilitate the feature, but I'm getting confused by how to properly code it, plus, I'm having difficulty as to finding the .ini file being mentioned in the readme... if anyone has a complete or detailed tutorial on how to use/con…

When I opened up a FSX Panel CAB file as I've done in the past I was surprised to see that in addition to many individual files, the CAB file also contained two subfolders with addiional files. After making a minor modification to one of the individual files, I tried to use cabdir to recreate the cab file as usual (put all the individual files and the two subfolders in a folder and dragged that folder onto cabdir). A cab file was created, but it doesn't work when replaced in the panel folder. I think the problem is I'm not creating the cab file correctly wrt the two subfolders that were in the original cab file. Any suggestions appreciated. Thx, Al

Hello all I'm new to this forum but I reckon I'm amongst the expertise that I need for a new issue that has appear on my hornet. For some reason (and I'm not sure how) the font-size of all the text in all three MFDs on my F18 (the standard Acceleration version) has increased. Strangely, the character spacing hasn't. So small words/abbreviations are all crunched up and longer words spill outside the gauge outlines. I've double-checked the BIT/GDI settings and they are all default. Is there somewhere I can reset a config file or something similar?

Title says it all really! Should zorder= also work for fixed windows, if they are included alongside 'normal' panel windows in the configuration? (Doesn't seem to at first attempt., but maybe I just need to double-check my numbering!). Thanks.

I`ve recently been looking around for a Slinsgby firefly with a VC for FSX, there is none available so I was wondering if it is possible to create a VC from scratch or even using an existing one and modifying it to replicate the cockpit of the firefly. I have no experience with using modelling software but am willing to learn. Can anyone give me any idea where I could learn how to make one? Heres a photo of a Firefly cockpit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Slingsby.firefly.t67c.g-bocm.cockpit.arp.jpg Thanks.

I am new to XML and am trying to modify some existng XML code to fix a bug that sometimes results in the display of invalid wind headings. The purpose of the first 3 lines below is to calculate magnetic wind direction from true wind direction. If subtracting the magnetic variation from the true wind heading produces a negative result, 360 is added in line 2, and conversely, if the result of subtracting the variation is greater than 360, 360 is subtracted in line 3. Seems simple enough in concept. However, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me why the two if statements in lines 1 and 2 that correct for invalid wind headings don't work before I pull out the…

Hi All, This may be off topic but I am hopping the since this is a design forum some one may be able to give me the answer I am looking for. Dose any one know which file or where to find the info on the CTRL E auto start for FSX? My problem is from cold and dark I can get the engine's to start looking at the gauge's but the rotor's do not turn. If I do a CTRL E auto start then shut it down I can start it every time using the start up from the user manual. So the CTRL E auto start must be setting some variable that is not listed in the manual. I have tried rotor brake and clutch etc. Thanks for any help or ideas you may have.

I notice that a lot (hundreds) of entries under [Effects] in the aircraft.cfg file have this: contrail=fx_contrail_l.fx But normally the .fx extension is not used - why would it be there? Is it a mistake, or does it just make no difference? Thanks.

I don't get any sound out of the tires hitting the ground, my environment settings are max up on the sound options, I try to to change the sounds on the cfg with another plane(carenado) that i got but nothing works, not one single plane makes any squealing sound beside a carenado that I got, even an alabeo plane that I have makes no squeling sound effect at all. I've seen that ACCUFEEL can fix that for me, but I don't want to buy an add on just for the wheels sound effects, plus I dont want to play on realism settings all max up, Im new with the sim. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? C172 Sounds.cfg [left_TOUCHDOWN] filename=cmtouch1, cmtouch2, cmtouch3…

Hi everyone, I created a new layout in FS Panel Builder to accommodate a widescreen monitor. Suddenly, the background BMP (just kind of a textured, dark gray plastic) is partially transparent! Not sure what I did here... Any idea what might be going on here? Also... I use an "IFR panel" - meaning, mostly full-size instrument and just a little out-the-window view. Every time I restart I have to resize the out-the-window view. Is there a way to keep it where it is? I asked a long time ago, but I don't think there was a solution. Thanks, Andrew
