hello, this is just one of those gmax quirks that gets on my nerve, and I was hoping somebody has found a way to change it. Ever notice when you try to make a standard object smaller than 5 or 6 inches across, it wont create...? Usually I just make it oversize and shrink it down, however, when using auto grid and when you want precise placement this is unacceptable. Is there a setting burried in the options that would change the minimum size?thanks

This is probably a stupid question but...I have been unable to find a tutorial that will clarify this for me. When trying to set up flaps, ailerons etc for animation on a wing with a dihedral I cannot get the part to rotate correctly. I know there is a way to align the rotation to the wing and not the global x,y,z coords but when I move the gizmo around it doesnt change anything in the actual rotation of the partHope someone can help with this one because its been driving me nuts for 2 days and 7 pots of coffee :-)*****************************************

Here's my "stupid" question of the day.In the screenshot, you can clearly see in the "Unwrapped" view that the texture file for the wing has a dark gray "non-slip mat" painted on the top...Can anyone supply a reason why the heck that "non-slip mat" will NOT display in (a) the main GMax window, nor on the compiled model???TIA

Working with SGML everyday (supposedly what XML was based on) I've gotten used to being able to refer to a DTD, when I'm uncertain about markup structure. My question is, does an XML DTD exist for flightsim gauges(I don't remember seeing one in the SDK)? If so, where can I find it?Regards,Chris

This may seem like a strange question, but there's a good reason for it!I'm making some very high detail ground sector files for Pro Controler/ASRC using a utility that lets you trace out taxiways, runway numbers etc in FS using slew mode - it captures the coordinates at each vertex when you hit the taxi and nav lights on the 172 panel. The problem is that the 172 visual model is getting in the way of the red + in top down view, making it very hard to exactly line up the vertices. Is there any way to create an invisible model and temporarily replace the 172's normal one with it so that I see everything under that red +???Thanks!Ryan

HiWhen I load my model in FS the default spot view distance is increased to 262 feet. This makes the model seem too small and I have to go through the 'view' option to change it back. Can anyone tell me 1. why does it do this and 2. how to correct itThanksJohn

I am working on a VERY simple, VERY plain IFR panel to practice with in FS2002. This panel is strictly about getting the instruments up there, but at the same time, since I'm going to be looking at it A LOT, I don't want it to be butt ugly either. It's for a single engine prop, of course, and I would very much like to get some feedback regarding placement of instruments, ideas, suggestion, criticisms, etc.A couple of design goals. Use as many default instruments as possible, stick to the basic stuff you're going to need to practice IFR.Ok, now that all that is out of the way. Here is my preliminary bitmap, instrument selection and placement. Let's call it a late Alpha,…

I am only learning about gauge creation - so my knowledge is fairly limited right now.My understanding is this -- first in FS98 there were single gauges .GAU , then there were in FS2002 gauges.GAU which contained multiple gauges, now there are XML gauges which can be contained inside a CAB file or not. I believe that the earlier gauges were written in C++ (??) .Could somebody explain the advantages/disadvantages of the new style XML gauges -- why Microsoft has implemented them . What should a budding new gauge programmer work with ?Thanks Barry

Hi,Here's a simple step by step to keep your mirroring hassel free...maybe.First select all the objects you want mirrored...Then select the move tool and hold down -Shift-. drag...when its in position just release the mouse button.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dc0534821cb247b.jpgNow you have a clone, we need to flip it 180*, by type in or with the rotate tool.Go to the top view and you can see it needs to be mirrored. Add a mirror modifier to the stack.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dc0545a25706e7f.jpgnow just click away until you get the orientation that you need.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dc054e8276ba96d.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum…

Hi gang,I've been looking around for anyone who's been able to explain how to animate the flapper hinge on the nose gear...Since I couldn't find anything I thought I'd save someone else the aggrivation. The problems I ran into are the hinge must only move when the gear is compressed, and it must be linked to retract with the whole assembly.Im going to start after you have the gear retracting and compressing you can find a how to on Chris' Gmax site.To create the hinge i just extruded it from the top gear...same goes for the yellow hinge.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbefd2e31aebcf0.jpgSet the time slider to 100now adjust the yellow hinge pivot as show...And link…

Is there a way in GMax to clone a part and reverse it, without running into the "mirroring problem?"I have a complex, curved left door that BobSam created for the Socata that I need to duplicate for the right side.Unfortunately, using the Clone and Mirror (the only way I've been able to discover to do this) creates a huge host of problems, beginning with reversed normals and all that implies!Yes, I can 'flip' all the normals to sorta get it to work, but when it comes time to apply the textures, more serious problems arise. You see, because of the 'mirroring,' what should be the "outside" polys are actually on the "inside." The end result of this is that whatever color is …

gauge00=Mooney_Bravo!Clock, 0, 147I notice that some gauges in panel.cfg files have this ! mark and others don't . Does this indicate that this particular gauge is contained inside another gau file like for example Mooney_Bravo.gau -- whereas the other type gauges that do not have this ! mark are shown in the gaugs folder as an individual gauge .. If so , why is this done? Thanks Barry

I have a panel for a DC3 which has a warning light -- this warning light is always on and logic tells me that it is because this particular warning light is out of the Kingair and is meant for a turbine aircraft -- but this then leads me to think that each warning light must have a set of parameters built into it that determine when it should come on and when it should stay off -- How does one find out what these are? Thanks Barry

Hi all,I've posted this question to a number of forums etc.... but no luck so far. hope someone here can help he !I'm working on a simulation of the LTN72 which is found in some older aircraft (A300B2-B727). I'm writing the soft in VB6 using FSUIPC and after I finish the soft, I will make a hardware version of the console with LCD interphase etc...The biggest problem is getting my ahnds on the original manual of this machine ! The best info I found so far was in the AETI B742 user manual which simulates the Litton 72 INS. There is no information on how the LTN72 actually handles the navigation. Does it overfly each waypoint or is it a little more intelligent and starts th…
