I might just do it! It appears you can get a single channel 32bit SCSI Ultra 160 RAID controller from Adaptec for about $325, and about $350 each for two 15K rpm Seagate Cheetah SCSI160 drives with 3.5ms access times. This appears to be the fastest I/O solution today, and from the looks of it these drives are built well to endure warmer temps. They are warranteed for 5y I believe. So for ~$1000, one can have some serious storage, albeit expensive. Maybe pick up a zip drive for backups, or a slower ATA drive to back up critical files with.I don't know much about SCSI, but is it less CPU intensive vs EIDE/ATA? If so I might just go for it on my TBA dream machine. I a…

I was especially intrigued by the payware Pan Am Clipper flying boat on the Avsim news page... Actually back when the project was first announced it occurred to me that an old issue of LIFE magazines (from EBAY) would probably have a nice photo layout along with an accompanying sensational news story. You know, back during their first appearance. After all, these were huge, new, and exciting: flying ocean liners!. Sure enough August 23, 1937 LIFE had a cover story. Very nice!== WHK ==

Is there any way to get detailed info on certain instruments, switches, controls, etc. for specific aircraft in FS2002? For example, I love using the checklists for various aircraft, but would like to know the details about using the "Inertial Separator", "Emergency Power" lever, the "ITT", "Torque", gauges in the C-208 just to name a few. There are so many new instruments in the various aircraft and the checklists tell you when and the correct order to use them, but what about WHY and HOW to use them? The help menu didn't seem to have much except general how to fly info. The addon aircraft usually have this info don't they? Thanks. :…

Hi there. Does anybody know if it is possible to extract the raw data that MSFS2002 uses in flight analysis, or to save the flight analysis from a particular flight to be openned later? I believe with 2000 the raw data was 'all you could get' unless you did some fancy exporting/arranging in excel or something, but as far as I can see, they've gone too far the other way...ThanksBillyI Wish the Real World Had a Slew Key

Does anyone no if there is third party software in developement that would enhance the ATC in FS2002. I looking for things like being able to change to IFR enroute, request for higher or lower atitudes, go to a alternate airport...etc. I know there is a product out there that is ATC program but I do not want to go thru all the trouble of creating a adventure file, I just want to be able to use the FS2002 ATC with added features.David AlbrightFAA Flight dispatcherSingle and Mult-engine rated pilot

Hello, I'm working on more framerate friendly gauges for this excellent aircraft and noticed that the strobe lights don't work. The switch clicks on the upper panel but doesn't move position like the other lighting switches. Anyone know of a fix? Thanks, Matt

I'm raising this here because the Flightmax site has been down for some time. Does the latest version now support FSMeteo? I was using them together last night and they seemed to work but this wasn't mentioned in the text with the update. If so, this would be the update everyone was waiting for! Now if I could just make the "shareware timeout" message stop appearing! I thought you guys were crazy complaining about that all the time but now I see what you mean! Also, some of you mentioned early on that you were using it via a network. I have not been able to get that to work using WideFS. Can someone explain how that is possible? Thanks!David

I've loaded FS 2000 on my machine at work (for lunch time flights, of course ;) ), but I can't get it to start up...it crashes with a FS2000.exe application error, saying the "memory could not be written". As stated above, I'm on an NT4.0 network, but my workstation is a P3 800, with 256MB ram, and integrated Nvidia 16MB video. The only thing I can think of that mght be causing a problem is that Norton anti-virus is running on the network, but can anyone come up with a fix to my problem? If it's Norton, I'm probably out of luck, as I can't disable it at my workstation. Thanks,K Bailey

I seem to remember it was a relatively easy matter to exclude stock airports from scenery in old versions of MSFS, but I've even forgotten how to do that and I'm not certain it even works in FS2K2. The problem at hand is a small strip just west of Syracuse NY (KSYR) that does not appear on any sectional I own. If you think I'm being unreasonably pickly, it's because the strip seems to be at an altitude about 1000 ft above the adjacent terrain. It looks like Devils Mountain and is visible 40 miles to the north on a clear day shortly after takeoff from my home field in Ithaca (KITH). For the longest time I thought it was just a giant landfill in that general area that reall…

I purcased the Co-Pilot (cd rom version), but I have yet to install it. I have FS 2002 Pro. 1. Is it necessary to install the patch "Co-Pilot GPS Fix.exe" in order for the GPS instrument to show in the cockpits? If yes, do I install the patch before or after installing Co-Pilot?2. I did a complete install of FS 2002 Pro. Do I need to have the FS 2002 Pro CD ROM in my CD drive when I first install Co-Pilot?If yes, which disc of FS 2002 Pro should I use, and when should I use it?3. Did you have any installation problems?4. Do you have any problems operting Co-Pilot?5. Is it simple or complex to use all its options?ThanksStanner

lets say Im planning a flight from KMIA to KJFK (fairly long distance), I set up my SID, enroute waypoints, STARs etc. I check the weather report on KMIA, will I need weather report for all the stations along my path??regardless I'm flying, I need to start my descent, with the X times 3 rule of thumb, adding 1 or nm for every 10 knots of tail wind, How can I determine the wind when flying? What if the conditions have changed since I departed or there is no weather reporting station available? If using the only real time weather that I know of FS METEO, the ATIS report in the airport will reflect those changes??Please all oppinions are welcome, I'm learning and I m tryin…

Hi Elrond,What would you advise as per a memory upgrade for my Epox-8KHA+? Right now I am using a single genaric PC2100 256 stick and I beleive it is one of the limiting factors to higher FSB speeds.I do have a limitted budget but I dont know if there is such a thing as low cost "fast" memory. :-lolThanks as alwaysPaul

I know this has been mentioned, but I can't find any postings on this subject using the search command. Can anyone tell me what setting I change to raise the seat height permanently in a plane. How big of a number change do I need to do the same as shift-enter one time. That's usually good enough for me.Thanks

I have added a few freeware airport sceneries. I have created a folder in scenery then entered FS and placed the pathe to the folder in scenery library. The problem I have now is that I have 2 airports in my directory when I type in the ICAO code. I added scenery in FS2000 and had never had thsi problem. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it, If I need to be more specific please let me know. Thank you Andrew

I'd be willing to bet that there are many out here like me that bought the standard version and now for some reason or other would like to be able to add in the planes, gauges, and other goodies that come with the pro version. For me it was more of a trial thing. I thought I'd only use the thing once in a while and wouldn't need all the planes. Well, it turns out I'm spending a lot more time in this thing than I ever dreamed about. Many people have said that the Barron is their favorite to fly and it's probably the one I miss having the most. Hell, I might even try my hand at designing something at this rate! :)So, why doesn't MS put the extra files out there for the $20 …

I have the throttle quadrant from a '62 Baron and a few other parts (trim wheels for rudder and elevator) for sale. I bought it for a home cockpit but now have two. The levers are way cooler than any commercial control I've seen yet and would be simple to connect to sliding pots using RC plane cables. I'll be happy to post a photo if anyone is interested. I paid $150 from a salvage yard, which included $50 in shipping but I can't imagine shipping really costs more than $20, so $100 for the unit and $20 for shipping takes it (or I guess any reasonable offer, for that matter). Just let me know!David
