What is the maximum range that terrain extended textures can cover? If I set visibility to say 120 miles using FSUIPC, how far out will I be able to see the extended textures on the terrain, assuming I am using the settings in FS2002.cfg that allow for maximum range of such textures, whatever these settings may be?Reason I ask is that I have noticed that when flying an airliner at say FL380, with unlimited visibility (120 miles set in FSUIPC) I can never force the terrain textures to appear at anything further out than approximately 80 statute miles ahead of me.I have tried several settings for the various entries under the section of my FS2002.cfg file.Stamatis

You will probably have noticed that we have the new forum system back online. We are running it to see if it will hold up under the strain. If so, then we'll leave it up and running. If not, we'll immediately go back to the old forum system.

Hello.I've been checking out the 'official' website for FS2004 with much anticipation, and note they refer to the new Garmin 500 and 295 GPS systems.Question I have is: can anyone tell me what the difference is between the two, and why are two even mentioned? Why have two GPS systems?Do they do different things?ThanksAllblack

The link to the screenie will show what I describe:Flying out of KORD today in a heavy (which I rarely do), I noticed that Lake Michigan and Lake Erie were messed up. In the middle of the lakes, there are square landmasses that shouldn't be there. I don't remember installing any landclass for this area, but may have. If I look at the GPS while flying, it doesn't actually SHOW Lake Mich anywhere... Is this a problem by default that someone has corrected in a scenery, or does this look like a problem that has come up FROM an installed scenery?Thanks!!http://www.pbase.com/image/15418668

I have been waiting quite a few years to get some decent mesh for British Columbia. And the mesh made by Holger is excellent, really gives you a great feel of the terrain around these parts. I have travelled the back country alot over the years, and to fly it with fs and have the terrain so accurate just simply puts a :-) on my face. One fun trip is to fly west out of CYPK (Pitt Meodows) and follow along the mountains that are towards the north. Turn north up Howe Sound and touch and go at CYSE (Squamish) Fly north through Whistler and make another touch and go at CYPS (Pemperton) follow the road out of Pemperton that heads easterly as you turn through the valley towards t…

I haven't played FS yet(will have a copy in my hands by Thursday hopefully), but I was wondering if there's anything like a career mode in FS2k2? I'm assuming there isn't, but it'd be awesome if they included something like that in the next version of FS(after CoF since it's pretty much done). One could log in flight hours, take tests to get their licenses, instrument rating etc. And maybe be a commercial airline pilot w/ real salary to buy planes or something(I know that commercial pilots don't make much money so I'd say a 99% discount on the planes ;)). I personally would love this feature in a flight sim, and I think it adds a little something. Anyways just a lil' wish…

Just a question Tom, I have your Convair 240 installed and when sitting on the runway at say, Meigs it hops up and down. I know there is an adjustment to this I just can't remember where I saw it. Could you help me on this. I have the other aircraft installed like the Dc6 series of your stuff and the Convair 340's. Just the 240 seems to jump around. Thanks for the great aircraft. Fun just watching the start up's

I found the "deeply disappointed" comment about a door not opening quite out of place. This is a FLIGHT sim not an art sim. That such a small item was "deeply disappointing" seemed excessive. The flight model, which after all is why we are here (aren't we?), does fail to account for the elasticity/fluidity of air and imparts a direct connection from the controls to the motion of the aircraft. This is VERY DISAPPOINTING. I have seen other aircraft where this occurs and just toss them in the delete bin since such behavior is totally unrealistic. just compare this to the new Rob Young C172 air file where there is an elasticity and inertia exhibited, as it should be.Dick

I installed DX9 from the MS site yesterday in the hope that it would cure some blue screen VXD___ errors I randomly get on starting FS2002. I use Win98 SE and created a restore before I did the install using Norton Ghost just in case. After the installation I rebooted and the machine started ok. I checked DXDIAG and on the "display 1" tab I was unable to select "Enable Direct 3D". It was greyed out. Anyway I started FS2002 and it ran ok for about 2 hours till I went to bed. This morning I started the computer and it wouldn't boot up fully, I usually get a CREATIVE logo on the screen with some music before my icons appear. This time nothing. Just the wallpaper. CTL+ALT+DEL …

Hello,I am new to Flight Sim 2002 and have a question. I noticed that some aircraft downloads require you to edit the aircraft.cfg file before you can use the aircraft. Before I mess anything up I would like to know how I should go about doing this.Regards,Ron

So I will advertise for them !! :)"Cross-country VFR flight to Australia's capital city. Real background ATC specific to each frequency, on-board virtual co-pilot & extensive pre-flight briefing documentation. For the serious-minded VFR pilot.""There!!!:)Barry

The FS flight planner doesn't work, when I select a flightplan and click ok the location of the aircraft still remains where it was. Example, I open up FS, and the aircraft is in Meigs. I select a LAX-SFO flightplan and click ok, but the aircraft is still in Meigs. Anyone help? Thnx.

Hello,I'm just moving into learning to fly a 727 (Captain Sim) - my first "big iron" airplane. Does anyone know of a flight tutorial for the 727 - especially for approach and landing? I have taught myself to fly GA singles and twins and am now finding the "non - electonic" sims really great. I have an "Iron knuckes DC9 with a great tutorial. My 727 - whick I would rather fly (better range) is really a mystery to me for landing!!!Thanks,Ron [email protected]

Hi There,Such a strange problem being encountered.I carry out the Flight Plan and export it to FS2002 flights and Pilots folder and when I come to load it from the COROUTE in FMC the FPlan does not come up. Tried also with the export utility from FSNAV to PIC FMC folder but to no avail as well. The problem occurs only with EHAM airport. The scenery is from Lago.Any other one encountered this and any solutions please.Help is appreciated.Regards.AMC.

    1) Atmospheric perspective. What this means, for example, is that in daytime, distant mountains appear bluer than near mountains.Basically, diffuse skylight color should tint everything, not just the sky.2) Better ground lights- pinpoints of lights instead of blurry blobs. Of course the blurs are still good for overall areas, as a "glow" still needs to be there to indicate lit ground under the lights. Large clusters of lights should be visible in the distance rather than just a big blur.3) Cloud lighting would be nice. At night, dense urban areas light clouds from underneath. At sunrise/sunset, clout bottoms are lit. The shadowed side of clouds would be correct, in other …

Is there a way to disable the scrolling text inside FS2002? I have been using AdvDisplay by Pete Dowson but with the Activesky weather program, AdvDisplay somehow blocks the communication between Activesky and FSUIPC so therefore, I cannot use it. As I fly online with VATSIM, I hate constantly seeing that scrolling text. Any help would be welcome.
