Letters to the Editorial Staff of AVSIM

Occasionally when I try the base station (205.252.89.41), it seems to connect ok, but there's nobody in the user list, not even me. Usually when that happens, it stays connected for about 20 seconds or so, and then disconnects. At other times, it works perfectly. Any ideas what's happening?

Just curious as to the method of assigning stars to a product. With all of the problems the reviewer found, it still rated 2 stars. I realize that assigning star ratings is highly subjective, but is there a standard method for assigning these or is it up to the individual reviewer?

Typo in Bear's picks, regarding the Hughes MD500 helos:"I did found these aircraft.." Thought you might like to know, and maybe fix it!

I was looking through the file downloads and had to page through ton's of "splash screen" files. I'm not into the whole splash screen "thing" at all, but since there are so many, I thought a seperate section for them might be nice.

SteveJust a short word of thanks. I really enjoy your monthly review. Living in Warszawa I have to use one of Europe's worst phone systems with a 56k modem. Hi Avsim,stepping over that thread at the sceenshots forum I think it is indeed a nice idea.However I think some kind of voting needs to be done.Heres a thought.The pics are up about a week.if possible add a voting system for a each pic for this uptime.By the end of month put the weekly winners up in Post like "Shot of the month" vote lasting another week.The winner from this shot will be put up for a "Shot of the year" vote beginning the following year putting them up on a separate voting page and running a month after which the "Pic of the year" is officially announced.This results in following "Awards"Pic of the weekPic of the monthandPic of the Yearafter all just an i…

In another forum, a discussion warmed up about what is "news". I personally take "news" as it comes, and reviews when I can get them, but I see a lot of questions about flying in general which begs for "what is a good book". I know pilot training books, and good ole "Stick and Rudder", and yes there's information in the sims, but a review of a good basic book..sort of "How to be a Sims Pilot" or, haha, "Flying the best, for Dummies"..etc etc..does anyone even make such a book? I mean sort of a Boy Scout manual-type, "take you by the hand" introductory to get feet wet with IFR, VOR, jargon, etc etc focused on flight sims. Just a thought :)

Hi,A while back Avsim encouraged people to participate in the United Devices "search for a cancer cure" using computational chemistry.I think Avsim had a huge team. Perhaps it might be a good idea to push it again since it's a good cause.Also, there is a team at Stanford that are doing reseach into protein folding, for things like Alzheimers Disease. Dear Avsim staff,As a regular visitor of your excelent site, I have one request - question;In the main page where all the news are listed, I would love to see a clear distinction between freeware and commercial related postings. Something like a little icon at the begining of each paragraph; or any other method you choose.In my opinion, both sides are equally important and the one helps the other. Just a quick note from an avid FS2002 user. I would like to propose a special recognition of some kind to Lee Swordy for his work with AFCAD and Traffic Tools. These tools have revolutionised the simulator in ways we could have only dreamed of 12 months ago. His work is extremely user friendly (AFCAD in particular), incredibly reliable and most importantly free! Boone.

Hi All:Hate to ruffle feathers but there are alot of young kids who frequent these sites. I am addressing this to a "MARK" someone and others who seem to have a hard time following the guidelines for use of this forum and use or IMPLY some pretty bad "Potty Mouth" language in their comments.Please at least have some respect for others, especially children, and do not place such language on the forums-it is a bad example to set for these future simmers!!!!Thanks!!Ed Ryan

Will we see a review of the PSS A320 on Avsim? Now that developers and customers alike have had the chance to fly around a bit and work out some preliminary problems, it would be interesting to have an Avsim staff reviewer weigh in ;-)
