Floyds Epic Clouds for MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

I have been waiting for this for ages: long enough that I thought they had been cancelled for some reason. Instant purchase!!! https://www.justflight.com/product/floyds-epic-clouds

Hmm, I really don't see the point of this. It's just presets using standard MSFS clouds. I'm fine with what MSFS does natively.

But hey it's pretty cheap so I'm sure it will be useful for some. Maybe someone who buys it can provide a bit of a mini-review?

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

I really find that misleading and JustFlight shouldn't promote it under this title!! 😠

Thats just weather presets, not clouds!

Hope JustFlight changes that as I think it is a trustful store. Not like MS Marketplace where you can find similar misleading stuff like "MScenery Professional" aircraft.

Purchased just because Floyd has been providing this as freeware for years.

Asus Maximus X Hero Z370/ Windows 10

It should be called 'Epic Clouds Presets' to be more transparent what this actually is.

I used Floyds free pack from FS.TO when live weather used to be a bit flakey and unreliable, but I love live weather now and you get so much variety day to day, and changing weather from one location to another.
It really adds to the feeling of being in a live environment.

So basically there is not so much need for these now, even though I agree Floyd has done an excellent job over the years.

One reason I might still buy them is so that I can fly in a location where the live weather is too bad to fly, and at the price he is offering them it is not a major financial hit anyway.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I see it, but never quite understood the apparent disdain for presets nowadays

I remember once upon a time being quite eager to see the free cloud presets Orbx used to provide, and almost all the popular weather packages not only offered presets but additionally allowed users to create and share new ones, which I believed was a popular option.

Even now there's strong (apparent) enthusiasm for "historical" weather, which I think of as a preset by another name, and also I wonder what people do when its bright and sunny outside (for instance) but they're interested on trying to land in a hurricane, or various levels or rain, or even fog.

Do purists patiently wait for real-life weather to (eventually) match their desires?

Do they scour the web to locate "real" weather somewhere out their that matches their mood?

Fine, but what if they want to fly in a particular type of weather at one of their favorite airport(s) when the type of weather they are looking for only appears to be live in Guatemala that day?

Maybe the sims depiction of the live weather is just ugly, or incorrect at the time, but you have a great preset that seems to match the real conditions almost perfectly......

Eh.

To each their own, but I myself like having quality (that's the operative word) presets available, and Floyd is known for his excellent and widely shared work, these last few years.

I probably owe him a few dollars anyway, for all the free enjoyment he's provided.

Yes, if the weather's not suitable in the location I want to fly then I find somewhere else and come back another day.

Again yes, but only sometimes and via a couple of decent websites that help you find "interesting" weather locations.

For me it's not just about the one airport, it's about the duration of the full flight. I very rarely, if ever, take off and land at the same airport. Therefore presets are no good to me as the weather will be the same at both departure and arrival, that's boring to me.

I only use Live Weather because of the variety it throws up, I enjoy seeing different cloudscapes, coming across storms and having to divert (not that it matters in this Sim but that's another subject), taking off in sunshine and landing in rain etc.

Presets are very cool and I did briefly try out Floyds in 2020 so if anyone's after this sort of thing then it's a no brainer, but they're not for me and my personal tastes even though they are interesting.

What I'd like to see is something akin to ActiveSky but simpler to use and directly in game, where you can select presets for certain parts of your flight or even just have a "Random" weather option. So when Live Weather doesn't look great or the Live Weather Servers are down, I can choose a Random  setting and have something that's more dynamic and not just a single preset everywhere. (Maybe a mod exists for this already, I've not looked).

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

I'll pass on this.  Our 2024 skies have never looked better.

100% purchase if it uses live weather in the future
