February 12, 20251 yr Does anyone seriously need to ask if the RTX 5080 GPU will be any good for MSFS 2024? Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester

Same, given it seems vram is key for 2024 performance, and certainly I’m getting pretty good performance already. I did think maybe I’d gone a bit too far getting a 3090 when I bought it, but it turns out to have been a pretty good purchase😅 i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
February 12, 20251 yr I purchased a 3090 FE at release which has served me very well, and funnily enough I was looking at upgrading to a 5080 or 5090, so glad Nvidia restricted supply. I'll look at the new AMD card's coming out soon and possible future releases if rumours are correct, but it looks like I'm going to miss another generation. Maybe I will look at the 5080 Super/Ti when or if it's released if it has more ram.

With the 5080 being $300-$600 more expensive than AMD 9070XT 32GB for the same level of MSFS 2024 performance, I can't see many going with a 5080 (assuming they could get one within the next 3 months). AMD have promised sufficient supply of 9070XT ... but if they're $300-$600 less than nVidia 5080, I think they will sell VERY quickly.
February 12, 20251 yr I could be sorely tempted to look at an AMD option. I’d like to upgrade from my 3090 for more modern performance but worry about dropping VRAM. Also read some stories about heat issues on the new 5x cards. Will be watching with interest!!
February 12, 20251 yr Why anyone who has a 4 series would go for this is beyond me. 3 series yeah I get it, but the costs are just on the stupid scale now. I can afford them but I simply am not paying it this time as a matter of principle. In fact I might take the £2k that a 5090 would cost and purchase a Brunner yoke instead.

I need to get more information on the CLS-E MKII ... the first version got so so reviews. But the MKII looks very good with TCP/IP connectivity so don't have to worry about cable distance ... that an 160mm travel pitch is VERY good, better than the VF Yoko Yoke. However 90 degree travel roll? Seems way too short?

Asobo has acknowledged a vram bug in 2024... That being said I've easily exceeded 20GB vram on my 4080 (which has 16 lol) with payware addons, scenery and heavy weather. It actually makes me think that we'll need native 2024 scenery addons - I think something has changed. Because for my liveries I'm using a different file extension .KTX2 - I believe it's a highly compressed version of DDS or something... but I think using it vs DDS saves a lot of VRAM. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I double-checked a review vid, and it's 90 degrees in each direction, so 180 degrees total, similar to a real aircraft. Wish I had the desk space for one of these beefy yokes! RE: the 5080/5090, I'm just waiting for an AVSIMer to come to these forums blaming MSFS2024 for starting their 50 series GPU on fire 😄

Do you realize that the "estimated performance leaks" (= internet garbage) say the opposite of what you wrote in your previous post? Assuming AMD sells Radeon RX 9070 XT at $649, or even $699 for that matter, its value would easily trump RTX 5080. To paint it another way, you’re taking a 10% performance loss for a 30% discount. This is purely concerning raster performance, of course, as Nvidia could still dominate in ray traced rendering. BTW, again, they are just speculations. Let's wait for benchmarks made in real conditions. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
February 13, 20251 yr Well, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has spectacular performance with 5000 series, even in native mode without Any frame generation whatsoever. The devil is in MSFS engine. It has been a shocker all along. http://youtube.com/c/Greazer

Yep, didn’t portray it as anything else … but I couldn’t care less about Ray Tracing, I turn the feature off in every title so far as they all make the scene way over the top reflective and unrealistic … sure it’s dynamic looking, but completely unrealistic to what you see in the real world. I don’t know if RT is hardware implementation limitation or graphics developer code issue, either way, I make sure it’s off.
