MSFS 2024 Sill can't get it to load

Featured Replies

I have run MAFS2024 for 254.9 hours and now for the past two or three weeks it won't load.  I have made post here and tried all the suggestions and uninstalled and reinstalled four times.  It still opens the splash screen then crashes. I've changed drivers to new and old with no luck. Changed drives to different drives.  Nothing solves the problem.

Can someone please help me?

Roy

Do you have a spare computer? If you do, install 2024 on your spare computer and see if that works. If if works, there is something wrong with your main computer.

Most likely, if you reinstall Windows on your main computer, MSFS 2024 will work again. But you will lose all your data and lose other apps you have installed. Hence I suggest testing MSFS 2024 on a spare computer if you have access to one.

You could start with some basics.

First, take everything out of the Community folder.

Delete the scenery.dat files: "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes"
Delete the rolling cache: "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\ROLLINGCACHE.CCC"
Neither of these actions will cause any damage, MSFS 2024 will just write them back the next time you start it.

See if it then runs.

I'll try it but I don't think the other computer meets the minimum requirements.

Also, I think the problem is that it doesn't remove all my settings.  It just takes what is on the cloud and puts it back in, along with the problem.  A reinstall doesn't give you  a clean install.

After I reinstalled it crashed immediately, so it didn't create a Community folder.  Under Packages it says folder empty.

No but it might be worth a try.  I also thought about trying the Game Pass or upgrading to Premium Deluxe.

At this point I'm willing to try anything.

No luck.  The uninstall deleted that folder.

It's likely that something is corrupted, or there is some incompatibility with MSFS 2024 and something that changed in Windows on your computer. Unfortunately, these problems can be very hard to pinpoint.  If you could backtrack and try to remember what changed on your computer since MSFS stopped working, it could be helpful - did you install a new NVidia driver, did you do a Windows update, did you install other software during that time?

I suggested using one of your spare computers because if you can somehow get MSFS 2024 to work on your spare computer, we can rule out your router or your internet is the problem, and the problem is probably your main computer.

The last, last, resort is to reinstall Windows on your main computer.  You will lose all your data and you will also lose any other apps that you have installed. The irony is, a fresh reinstall of Windows is also the best solution to get MSFS working again.  But maybe try other options before you go down the route of reinstalling Windows.

Also, have you tried contacting MSFS support? MSFS support is here: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015781359-How-to-contact-support

I think "Tech Support" covers your particular problem, as you can't install and run MSFS anymore.  I would definitely contact MSFS Tech Support, before you go the final route of reinstalling Windows.

That only means that you don't need to delete it yourself.
The reinstallation guide is clear enough, perhaps try reinstalling with reference to that.

Very strange as I am having a similar problem.  Previous day I used it with no issues.

I load 2024 SU1 beta 2.  Click fly and I hear a loud buzz and the PC reboots.  I have started with an empty Community folder, no luck.  Uninstalled and re-installed.  Rolled back to non beta.  Rolled back graphics drivers, removed DLSS 4 and used NVidia inspector to set profiles to default.

Nothing works. At every reboot 2024 crashes when I click 'Fly now'.  Everything else on the PC is working as normal.

That's not good ... ... it sounds like a hardware issue?  That would explain the loud buzz and then the PC rebooting.

Are there any useful errors in the Windows Event Logs (Applications & System) that might provide a clue?
