MSFS 2024 Sill can't get it to load

Featured Replies

I feel sorry for those simmers still having so many trouble with FS2024 (CTDs, loading issues, streaming/cloud issues, hardware issues, and so on), after almost 3 months since its release.

There are still very good addons being developed for FS2020 (of course, with FS2024 in mind for the future) that allow us to continue enjoying this sim very much, and while that still happens I'll be postponing my FS2024 purchase for maybe later this year.

Cheers, Ed

I agree with you Ed.  Fortunately 2020 is still running okay on my computer.  I use it daily.

They say "If it ain't broke don't fix it".  Worse is "If it's broke and you can't fix it".

Well, I have used 2024 for three months without major problems until this graphics driver issue.  Thing is, 2024 has advanced the sim so much it is nigh on impossible to go back to 2020.

And if you can't get it to load, look at all the other things you can do with your life. 🤣

So if it ain't broke don't go back to it? Not sure that's the correct wording.. 🤔😉

Again, for you LOL...

But it wouldn't be a complete thread without you there to defend 2024 so no one misses out on it's brilliance because of naysayers...   LOL  I think those were your words 😉

Microsoft should really send you a t-shirt for said service.  You haven't called out a single day since release!!

Gold star for you on your internal quarterly review!  No raise though 😞

Also make sure your system clock is in sync with correct time and date.

Roy, sorry to hear of your problems. It may help to remember that 2024 is still being optimized, and future new versions are going to arrive several times a year. Perhaps a coming update will eventually fix your problem.

The "nuclear option" is to start with a clean computer: do the equivalent of formatting your storage and reinstalling Windows from a boot drive. If you're using Windows 11, consider going down to Windows 10. If you're on 10, consider upgrading to 11.

The other idea that makes sense to me is that it's a hardware issue. Perhaps you could run the kind of 72-hour stress test that might show defective RAM (if you can't do this, take your PC to a place that will do it for you). MSFS does tend to run your hardware to its limits, so perhaps this game is falling into a vulnerability of your system that other games don't meet.

In a simpler world, there would be an "errors.txt" file that you could look at that would show what was happening when 2024 caused the CTD, but I don't think we're living in that era anymore.

Final suggestion: I second the idea above of enlisting help from Microsoft, because they should help you if you can't launch their product. Start a thread (or send an email) on the official support channels. It's a long shot, but maybe it's an avenue to more expert help than you'll get from the community of users here at Avsim.

Sorry for your troubles.

Here's what I would do as my first step if I had this problem:

a) If I was in the beta, then I would leave the beta, and retry.

b) If I was not in the beta, then I would join the beta and retry.

Doing either will change the routine where MSFS loads up the sim.

EDIT: And if this works, then go right back in or out of the beta like you were originally, only now it probably will load OK.

I am still waiting for this eventlog entry from your CTD or whatever happens if you fire up the sim...

Thanks Prolixinec, Fielder and AnkH for your suggestions.  I have checked my driver in device manager and it says okay.  I don't think it's hardware because MSFS 2020 and all my other apps run with no problems, even though my computer is kind of mid range for 2024, but it ran good since day one.

I can't find an event log and maybe there is not one since 2024 will not install.  I tried the Game Pass and it still would not load, but I think I'll take Fielder's suggestion and try the beta.

At this point I think I'll just have to wait on the next upgrade as Prolixinec suggested.

I'm running Widows 11 and I hesitate to change back to Windows 10 because it was working fine before with Window 11.

I'm beginning to think that whatever info about my installation that is stored on the cloud, just keeps downloading back in with each reinstall.  Garbage in, garbage out.  I wish I knew how to cancel my cloud info so I could start fresh and new.

Something must happen if the installation fails and this something should left a trace in the event log. Or are you telling me that when you start the installation, just nothing happens?
