PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster

  1. hello, How do we use the Take-off performance graph page 288 of POH ? a- For example, if the altitude is 1000ft, the gross weight is 80000 and head wind is 10kts, what is the needed runway length ? (3200 ft ?) b- how to get the maximum take-off weight for a given runway ? Thanks Guillaume CHARRIER

Hi, I've just bought the DC-6 and, to be honest, my first impressions are somewhat mixed due to a number of things. The biggest issue right now are the sounds: a ) Sound is non-directional in the cockpit, i.e. when turning your head/view everything sounds exactly the same. Is this intentional or a bug? b ) The engine sounds are present, but very quiet - what I hear is mostly what appears to be the props. The result is a loud but thin "whirring" sound instead the roar of the big engines. It seems that the sounds are exactly like in this preview video from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXnUEjgKfcU However, they are nothing like in the sound p…

Hello all. First of all, massive thanks to PMDG for this lovely addition to my ever growing fleet of aircraft. As of yet I've made four flights. As I don't really have enough time to really understand this aircraft I am using the AFE to get myself up in the air in a reasonable time. I love this feature! However on two of my four flights, during takeoff the AFE pushed the throttles so far that the engines take damage. Manifold pressure goes up to over 60"! What can be the cause of this?

The AI in the DC6B is offset from the vertical by ~3'. The Cirrus yoke shows a red bar during roll calibration; the data for the roll ranges from -.9 to .9 which is similar to the other axes. Any suggestions as to why the AI is offset and the yoke apparent calibration problem? Is there a correlation? Thanks-- Robert

  5. I've read the PMDG DC-6 Introduction document with a view to buying my first decent addon for X-Plane but although the graphics settiings are covered therein I couldn't find any recommendations for the settings for the joystick sensitivity and aircraft stability sliders on the Nullzone Tab of the Joystick & Equipment screen in X-Plane. Do these settings have any influence over the 'realisim' of the DC6, in which case how should they be set, or does the PMDG flight model effectively bypass them? Andy Lawton

Hi there, I read it 3 times and 4 times. Still don't get the clue. When you start with full tanks you'd switch to alternate after 20mins after takeoff. When to consider the alt tanks to be empty? If it's zero or if it's let's say 200lbs left because of inaccuracy of the fuel measuring device? Then, and this is the main question not clearly written for dummies in the POH, do you use the main inboard tanks until 79gal left and then use outboard or do you aim to level outboard and inboard and use tank to engine until land? Thanks in advance.

  7. Captains, One of our stated aims at PMDG is to provide technically accurate and realistic simulation products for simmers to use, enjoy and learn. With each product release, we generally have to spend a bit of time helping to kill off something we call "Simmerisms." What is a Simmerism? It is an incorrect understanding of how something is supposed to work. For example, when we released our 737NG in 2003, we were immediately taken under heavy criticism because users found it very difficult to slow the airplane while descending. All of their previous simming experience told them that in order to slow down while descending, you simply pulled the throttle to id…

Gents, Enjoying the challenge of this immensely, I’m a big fan of the “old iron”. As such I endeavor to follow procedures as closely as possible. There are a few checklist items that I cannot correlate to the actual aircraft. i.e. I can’t find ‘em! From the checklist….. “Heater fuel switch……………………………..NORMAL (down)” “Heater, fuel, and ignition selector switches…..SYSTEM NO. 1 (down)” “Heater backfire warning lights………….OFF (Push to test)” I assume these refer to POH page 31, items 206 - 209 . Is that correct? (If so, I understand they are INOP as stated.) (I’m also unclear on what “SYSTEM NO. 1 (down)” refers to.) POH page 108 refers …

Hi, First of all, thanks alot for this great and in many respects path-braking creation! Sorry if I'm simply are repeating things, but I remember the issue about positional/directional sounds being raised. I didn't recall, however, that you responded if you're planning to add such a feature or not. I think that's a pretty basic and almost fundamental feature, being standard in most (x)planes (payware and freeware), and I assume it is not a design choice to not implement it, as I cannot believe it can be difficult to do so. You may simply have had you focus elsewhere, on all those more complex and great things you did implement in this superb piece of craft. I …

I'm very keen to buy the DC-6B. I'm very interested in engine starting and engine management and this seems an ideal sim to enjoy that process with four big piston engines. One thing is bothering me. One of Kyle's beta videos seemed to show engine starting was partly automated (multiple switches being moved together because you only have one mouse input). Is this still the case in the final release? Is it possible to mismanage the start, as you can in an A2A sim? Does the starting model rely on correct priming? Can you do the "count the blades then switch on ignition" process or is igntion switched automatically?

  13. So I put the plane on 28L at Portland. I click the Scenario 1 button after copying the tutorial file across. The plane jump up in the air about 10 feet and falls back down again. Smoke pours out of the engines. It doesn't always happen but seems to quite frequently. Presumably I'm the only one this is happening to as I haven't seen any other threads on it. Am I doing something silly? Thanks

Hello, I'm a new to PMDG so please forgive me if I ask something silly but when new updates come out will there be some notification please ? A pop up when the aircraft is loaded or e-mail perhaps ? Or should I check these forums once in a while ? Will update notifications be posted here ? I understand there already was one hotfix released but I don't see any notification thread here.

I don't know if this is a problem on my end, or if someone else has asked the question already, and I apologise in advance if that's the case. The problem is that the touchdown effects, be it the sounds or any visual clues based on vibrations etc etc are too subtle, to the point that in one of my landings I really struggled to know if I was on the ground or still "flaring". Is there something I could do to make the touchdown more noticeable?

I am a huge PMDG fan and have been a customer for more then a decade. I am also a long time X-Plane user of about 10 years. I didn't think the DC-6 would do if for me. I love my modern jets. Boy was I wrong. So glad I purchased this beauty. Can't wait to get the rest of PMDG's products for XP. Quick question, Whats the typical cruise Alt for the DC-6 on a 1-2 hour flight?

Hi all, Before buying, I wanted to make sure that the DC-6 would work on my system, and was wondering if there is anyone using the DC-6 successfully on a relatively low-end system. I'd love to try out the aircraft, but only have my laptop with me up here at college. (Desktop was left home). My specifications are: AMD A10-5750M APU (quad core) 2.5 GHz, AMD Radeon HD 8650G graphics, 8GB RAM Has anyone with a comparable system had success using this aircraft? Or does anyone more experienced than I have any thoughts on my specs? I appreciate any input! Steve

After the first couple of hours of flying this plane the liveries won't change. I downloaded all the new liveries and tried to change to them. After the Pan Am one it stopped changing. But mysteriously it is now stuck on the PMDG livery in both the A & B plane. BTW I've been using X-Plane for almost 10 years so I know all the different ways to change liveries.

Hi, Are there any plans to offer a discount for a second platform? e.g. if we've purchased the Windows version now, will a discount be offered for buying it for the Mac platform when it is released (or vice-versa) for those of us that want it for both platforms? Rob Smith.

Hello everyone! Let's start to collect bugs of the airplane here! First bug that I found: If you started engine number 3, then during starting engine number 4 you shutdown number 3 - there is no any sound of the working engine number 4 The second one - if you use external camera and fly away from the airplane, the sound of the engines "fly" with you. And also I have a question about SmartCopilot config file - are you going to create one or not? If you don't want to do this, so I can create it by myself, but in that case I need a list of all custom datarefs, that you use in this airplane!) I think there are a lot of x-plane pilots who wants to fly with SmartC…

There is so much love and care put into this module that I am stunned. Absolutely beautiful. Pictures and YouTube does not do it justice. The AFE is a stroke of genius and helped me take a couple of flights. I cannot wait to get stuck into the tutorials and manuals tomorrow and this weekend. Well done. Worth noting, my .exe failed a couple of times. Can't remember the exact error, as I was so relieved on the third attempt that it worked/. Thank you, Len Leinsters
