Hi everyone, Haven't touched a flight sim. since FS2004. Not sure why, other pursuits etc. Looked at FSX a few years back in 2009'ish but a colleague at the time with MS didn't think it had long to live and again I found other things to interest me. Anyway, it was through a new job with the military that I found out that LH had bought the code and was amazed when they released Prepar3d to the general public, albeit with their odd EULA and that if you at any point find it entertaining, you must immediately stop using it and remove it from your system. I myself am a mature student studying geology in my spare time and so legally I guess I'm fine. I digress. What…

Hi everyone This is a total newbie alert as I'm just dipping my toe into this wonderful world of flight sims. New Computor bought. i5 quad core processor nvidia 660 graphic card. Whole lot loaded on to a 1 tb hard drive specifically for FSX , PDGM 737 Love it extended Otter love it. Ready to rock and roll. I've taken off, I've circled, I've planned and I've landed absolutely hooked on the flying. Next stage advised a friend. Get these musts. Top of the list Fsuipc. "It brings everything together" can't live without it its an absolute must. Now before I go on let me categorically state this next bit is in no way intended as a slight or a dig at Mr Dawson the Creator o…

I have wanted to try flight simulation for quite a few years but could never afford the type of powerful PC needed to give a satisfactory experience. I did start accumulating FS2004 discs (scenery, airports) but never got any further. Ironically, now having retired, I could go out and buy a really fast PC tailored for Flight Sim, but I don't want to throw a lot of money at hardware if I didn't "take" to the hobby. I am wondering whether what would have been considered as a high powered PC for FS2004 when it first came out, is matched or bettered by a modern budget PC? To that end, what I had in mind, considering its more about CPU speed than graphics, w…

Is it only me who finds it a great pain accessing the forums? For the past twelve months it sometimes takes an age to get onto the forums, especially at 6.00am GMT. All other flightsim sites I can access easily, no problems but AVSim I am forever waiting. I am not sure if this is a european problem or if people from other parts of the world have the same problem. I have also tried different browsers but unfortunately the problem still persists. Your thoughts would be welcome.

Hey guys, Sorry to bother you, since I don't really have a question. [To Admin: My apologies in case this thread should be posted in another section.] I just wanted to thank the guys that run this website and the amazing community for all of your tremendous efforts! I've enjoyed FSX for a while now on a quite underpowered notebook, but am planning to get a decent rig and some complex and good-looking addons. Prior to reading through the Avsim forums I only had little knowledge of both hardware and software. Thanks to you guys I do know now, which hardware to get, how to set it up in order for FSX to (hopefully) run smoothly, how to tweak FSX (and not over-do w…

When flying in any phase of fsx the program will minimize down and it will not go back to normal view. I have to control alt delete to quit the program and restart it. How can I avoid this?

I'm new too! I'm waiting for the CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle that I ordered (by the way, I advice against ordering from SimWare Simulations, they've been nothing but a frustration since the 7th that I clicked to order, all they've done is ignore all my questions and delay the shipping with no explanation, on the 10th they finally told me that my Visa was declined, then within 30 minutes I paid via Paypal, then they stopped responding again and finally after contacting aerosoft which bought them in 2012 I got them to tell me they got the payment on the 11th and it would be shipped on the 14th, but I have had no confirmation so I don't know if they did and they never …

Hi all. After getting into flight simming last year and months of lurking I thought it time to say hello as I will be posting in the hardware forum after upgrading from an ageing i3 system to something more capable of running fsx well. I've done a mobo change so full windows and fsx install from scratch tomorrow. Should be fun! I've been learning the 737ngx for the past couple of months and found the aircraft and its systems very engaging to the point I had to remind my partner today that I do still live here lol. Anyway a big thank you from me to the community for all the archived information I've made use of so far as I probably would of got frustrated and give…

Hi, My first post here (and I'm no expert on flight sim's) so please excuse any naivety. I own and operate a (real) Pitts special S1-S based in the UK, flying mainly for fun and the odd aerobatic competition. In the last few years I have also developed an interest in making flying films, mainly shot with gopro's (I have 4 on the aircraft with 6 available positions and one inflight tilt / pan mount). I generally film and edit these myself and show them on my vimeo account (called WIGY TV). This is all done for fun, mainly because I just enjoy doing it and re living the flying experience. I've recently been thinking about making a short film (about 4 to 7 mi…

Hello all, just joined and and have a question about MS Flight Sim X and hardware. I'm sure most of you are all up on flight sims and hardware so I figured I'd ask the vets. I was wanting to know what the system requirements are to run the sim well. I know there are many add-ons and graphic inhancements so I wanted to be sure the system I've got is up to the task. The system specs page seemed a little dated and wasn't sure how many things have changed. System specs: Intel Z77 Mainboard Intel Core i5 3570 3.4ghz cpu Corsair builder series 600wt PS Nvidia GTX 650-TI 1GB Gskill 16GB PC1600 memory WD black 1TB hard drive LiteOn 16x DVD burner Rosewill 9 i…

Hey guys, Figured I'd introduce myself. I've been simming off and on since FS98, but just recently gotten back into it with the purpose of someday possibly getting my PPL. I live in north central Arkansas, and have a couple nice airfields just right down the road! Midway AR airfield (promised land I think is what FSX calls it)....Anyway, last year, I bought the saitek yoke and quadrant and some CH pedals. I'm not interested in ever flying anything over the size of a Baron or the like, so this setup will last me hopefully! I am first looking to upgrade the local scenery in my area in FSX. Then I really want to get my setup and view in the C172 as close to realistic…

Hi there guys, Thought I'd just do a quick introduction of myself - funny thing is that I've been using the Avsim file library for years but have never been a member of the forum. I've been a member of the Flightsim forums for as long as I can remember since I started simming, must have been about 12 years old. Anyway I'm 25 now, from the UK. When I was 17 I went to Australia and did a PPL over there, just to see if the flying interest was still strong, which it was. After that I came back to the UK and did a degree in Geography at Newcastle University. I then attended Oxford Aviation Academy on their Integrated course and got my frozen ATPL, which involved flying…

Hi everybody! This is my first day here on the Avsim forums. My name is Adlai Glass, and I'm currently about 14. I'm going to be starting my training in a year or so, at Hillsboro Aviation here in great ol' Oregon. Too bad you can't get the license until 17. I'm currently in FedEx Virtual Airlines, although I can't do any virtual flying until MAY. That's when the new computer arrives, since FSX would get an average FPS of about 4 on this one. I'm probably going to do an ASUS P867, with an i5 2500k, 16GB RAM, and a GTX570. How does that sound?I've been downloading from the library for years, but just now decided to get active in the forum. Does anyone know if the Wilco 737…

Hello, My name is Brian Sullins. I am a mail man (Postal Service Letter Carrier) in the Phoenix area. I recently purchased FSX along with a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS and a set of CH Rudder Pedals. I am interested in the rotor wing aspects of FSX and do mostly VFR flight in and around Arizona. I have visited many of the rural areas of Az via 4wd and am anxious to visit them by air. After my initial flights around the area, I was sorely disappointed in the default scenery FSX has to offer. I have considered photoreal scenery for my area such as Megascenery Earth or Tile Proxy and even considered making my own via Maps2bgl, but due to the lack of autogen, space requ…

Hello all, Been lurking for a little bit so thought I'd introduce myself... Bought FSX a while back and was playing it on a pretty rubbish laptop to begin with. Then left it alone for about a year before I decided to get a decent system (in Feb 11) to play it on. Then started the slippery slope of add-ons - first some traffic and GEX Europe, then UTX and a couple of nights ago REX. Now I'm looking to OC my PC, to get that little extra out of it, and am constantly thinking of what the next addition will be... GF is not impressed, cat is useless as cabin crew and keeps fraternising with the passenger As you may have gathered from my pic I race karts in my spare time amongs…
