Designers,I'm seeking some advice. While I am not totally ready to jump right in and go crazy with object/building design, I am getting ready. My question today revolves around obtaining custom textures for buildings. Can any designer provide some advice on taking photographs for building textures? Is it best to photograph under sunlight, clouds, certain times of day? Is there any size cutoff you'd expect to take multiple photos and stitch them together? How best can one take photos of a long building (such as a terminal) and get good results once stitched or tiled together on the model?Any advice on gaining physical (& LEGAL!) access to an airport to obtain the photog…

I use FSDS 3.5 to create building models and create daytime textures from photos. Using PaintShop Pro, I use shadow and recoloring to the daytime texture to create a nighttime texture with _lm added to the filename. The nighttime option is checked when importing the textures into FSDS, and a .N is indicated on the texture name within FSDS.I am apparently not doing this right because the nighttime texture does not display in FSX at night. Instead, I get a darkened daytime texture. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong? Thanks.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+ | Athlon 64X2-6000+ | 4GB PC2-6400 RAM | Geforce 8800GTS-320MB | 500W PSU | 250GB HD | FSX(SP1-Acceleration) | UTX | Audigy …

Can they affect frame rates? Is it better to have several small excludes or one large one? I'm working on some scenery and it seems like I'm getting stuttering that I've never had before with this particular airport. I'm using AFX.

Heads up, anyone interested in scenery design: Christian Stock has just published a tutorial I wrote for him on how I designed the runway ground polys for Plum Island. It's a little wonky, but I figure with the geek quotient around here, somebody might dig it.http://www.simpilotnet.com/index.php?optio...d=206&Itemid=32

  5. I am trying to remember which was the FS scenery of French Polynesia in the early 90's that really stunned me. I flew there (real) recently and one amongst the basic reasons for it were the memories of flying there with FS years ago.I think it was a payware and not freeware. All I remember now from back then is flying to Bora Bora NTTB and Maupiti NTTP and landing in between tropical trees close by with amazing 3D detail and being surprised by the excellent graphics for that FS period and the very FIRST for that era, reflection of the Maupiti island mountain on the sea of the lagoon. You would fly next to the island and the mirrored reflection of the mountain would move in…

Hi,I have been using Ground2K successfully for re-meshing small areas, for inserting VTP2 poly's and even for extending coastlines. For some reason I cannot get Ground2K (updated all the way)to visualise the drawn roads and shorelines in FS9.At first I thought it was related to a certain area (Australia with the VOZ files) but now I encounter the same problem in empty Labrador.I would apreciate some help here.chris van de velde

Both the nVidia and Riva Tuner control programs offer several adjustments such as Brightness, Contrast, Gamma and Digital Vibrance. However, there is no specific color saturation adjustment. Digital vibrance might fill that role but its default position is also its minimum setting.I have been taking a close look at my several gigabytes of photo scenery and have seen obvious needs to both increase and and reduce color saturation. However, with the two control programs I have mentioned the adjustments are not adequate to achieve a good level of color. So, does anyone know of a way to specifically adjust color saturation for a nVidia 8500 256mb card?Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, a…

With some considerable help in the FSX forum, (thanks Art !), I've managed to clean up the Toronto downtown area somewhat, using ADE and Instant Scenery (to add the Air Canada Centre from the Toronto.bgl library). One thing that baffles me though, is that there is a model for City Hall which consists of red lights suspended in space and the building missing.Anyone else see this, or am I doing something wrong?

Hello, I recently installed this modified terrain to update some scenery, but when I flew out of Milwaukee (my hometown), Lake Michigan was gone! Replaced by farmer's fields. Putting backthe old terrain cfg brings Lake Michigan back from the dead. Any ideas?

I am working on compiling photo scenery for the Greeley, CO area and the training areas that AIMS Community College uses for flight training. However due t being in the school itself and lack of time, I am wondering about the following:I love SBuilder. It makes making photo scenery very easy. However, is there a method in the program where you can compile using a complete area and zoom? I have tried the following but this function does not work properly n SBuilder: * FILE-->ADD MAP--> From Background... * I select the radial button for "56x40 at Zoom = 18" * Click OKI always get one of two possible messages. Either a red dialog that states "Could not make…

Hi simmers!Does anyone know some good (and simple) freeware tool to create flatten BGLs ?I know Flattex but it does only generate flatten LINES that have to be inserted into the scenery.cfg - best would be something like ExcBuilder that directly creates a BGL.Thanx for help!J.R.

Hi all,I would like to start creating some scenery to sell on the internet, mainly small GA airfields in the UK. Could someone who does this please give me some advice on how to get started. Im ok with the modelling but would like to maybe get some kind of income from it.How would i go about selling through someone like Justflight? Do these companies create their own scenery or do they publish other peoples and give them a cut.I would be interested in hearing from somebody who is doing this about the business side of things.RegardsFelix

I am looking for 2 or 3 people to test the Edwards AFB scenery for FSX. It is for FSX, SP!, or SP2. The acceleration pack has an improved Edwards AFB. I have the AFB about %85 complete right now, I just need to finish adding library objects to it. I also will be adding about thirty AI aircraft to the package as it progresses. If you want to get a better idea of the project here is the link to my webpage: http://shess0757.googlepages.com/test If interested email me and I will send you the .bgl file. Thanks, Steve

Hi there,Can someone explain breifly how one would go about creating generic ground textures that can tile without looking tiled. So basically all the edges need to match with the opposite edge. Are there any programs that can help with this or is it all a painful manual process? Not looking for detailed instructions on how to put them into FS, just how to create the image itself. Thanks,Gary

Hello All, First my apology if this question/topic has been answered already somewhere else on this forum... I searched around, then I tried posting this in the "Tips and Tricks" forum, but it seems pretty dead over there... So, to my question, I'm almost finished buiding a new computer to run FSX... Software to Install: FSX Deluxe, FSX Acceleration, FS Global 2008, Ultimate Terrain X, Ground Environment X, Flight Environment X... I know one should install UTX before GEX, but I also want to install quite a few airport scenery add-ons, Cloud 9 Orlando Int'l, and several freeware airport add-ons from simviation... Also MegaScenery Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Dallas... I know FSX…

Hello All!It's been a long time since I've posted here, so I hope no one minds this being a somewhat lengthy post. Anyway, I ran into a small problem while installing scenery I hope one of you can shed some light on. I downloaded 86wa 2K2.zip, Kapowsin Field, Washington, by Ron Vorak and Brian Moat, from http://www.FlightSim.com. I installed it as per instructions, then went to add scenery and added it to FS 2002. However when I selected it as the departure airport the following messages appeared:"Scenery object not found, this may cause some scenery , such as some buildings, not to display, ID: 0x682406CE, 0x48E82E8B, 0xFAAF3E83, 0XA23C0FD1." I've read the Terrain SDK and I think I pretty much understand most of it. However, there is one issue that still perplexes me. How do all the textures fit together so seamlessly? Are they all tilable? Even between differnt landclass categories? How can FSX be sure that if it places a texture in one 1.2km square according to the various characterstics of that square (landclass, region, season, etc), and then places textures in the surrounding 1.2km squares according to their characterstics -- that they will all seamlessly fit together? What is FSX's basic method of operation for making sure that all the patchwork of textures fit together seamlessly no matter how g…

I was working on landclassing the Tyndall AFB area in FSX and ran into a bit of strangeness - an airfield in the sim which is unnamed and not shown on GPS. Real world coords: 30* 01' 13.58"N 85* 29' 47.41"WIn FSX, this airfield appears approximately 1 mile EESE.Google pic of area http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z66/For...iew_Tyndall.jpg Sim pic of the field http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z66/For...M_n_Unknown.jpg As you can see, it's "misplaced" according to Google no matter what the ident and right now, my GPS doesn't list it as anything in "Nearest". It turns out that this is an airfield that is used on which to practice runway repair. http://www.globalsecurity.…

Have noticed with LSZH that the airport name is not used in ATC conversations. Checked the comm. section in the afcad and all are named "ZURICH". After playing around with it a bit, I got it to refer to "Zurich ground". Not sure what I did to get it to do that. However, everything to and from the tower is just "tower". I don't know what else to change to get this right. Any ideas? Thanks,Joe

Hi all.We at Flight Ontario are about to release a scenery compilation of towns and airports up the Eastern Labrador Coast. The are a total of 14 airport scenerys from the SE end to the NE Excluding Goose Bay.Goose is a seperate complex scenery on its ownSee map includedBecause of the amount of airports We would like to have them all in one scenery called labrador Regional Airports rather than 14 seperate sceneries.Putting so many seperate scenery files for such a large area in one scenery sounds good but will it cause problems in the sim.Can anyone see a downfall to this idea.Look forward to your repliesThanks Al Sibleyhttp://www.flightontario.com/images/sig_asibley.gifht…
