Is there a way to update FSX's NAV / GPS / approach database to use current fix names and locations? I'm a real pilot, and find I need to keep some old charts / approach books around, as FSX doesn't keep pace with NAVDATA changes. Thanks!

Hey Guys, Was considering getting a second GTX 550 Ti for my rig in order to play FSX in Nvidea Surround Mode with 3 x 22" LED Monitors. My system specs are listed in my signature for your reference. Anyway I hear that when you set up 3 monitors, you can increase the resolution along the lines of something near 5090 x 1080. Now this is nearly five times the resolution of a normal Full HD monitor. Will this " increased resolution" have an effect on my FPS overall ? I mean typically speaking two graphics cards working together in synergy in SLI always results in significant performance increase with today's games But FSX being the inefficient, o…

  3. Does anyone know the actual age of the source-data MS used for US scenery in FSX? Current charts are not ideal because subsequent changes to navaids and other facilities cause them to not correspond to what is in the sim. I'm hoping to track down some older charts, either paper or digital, to complete my collection of sectionals for the areas I'm interested in. Having a "target date" would help point me in the right direction. I'm assuming somewhere between 2000-2005, but I guess it could be older.

  5. Because I've been having problems managing my airspeed during descent/approach/landing, I figured I needed to spend more time practising my landings... Having to deal with procedures, takeoff and some cruise/loop to be able to practice a landing is a bit of a chore in a heavy jet, so I tried 'Instant Approach', which does the job fine, but at $15 is a bit pricey for something with limited use (IMO as someone on fixed income that is). So I figured I'd simply fly a single flight and save at an approach point where I could reload the 'in air' setup, but that would mean I'd need some landing analysis to determine how bad I'm doing, and FSX's native analysis is... lacking.…

  6. Hi, I'm sorry to ask, but yesterday there was a new topic called "special enb edition for fsx". It seemed to be a interesting new ENB mod. But today the thread seems to be gone and all I can find via the forum search is "Sorry, we couldn't find that". http://forum.avsim.n...dition-for-fsx/ Where did it go? Best Regards Norbert

My engine (all?) sounds fade away and then come back. Is there a tweak I could use in the cfg file to cure this? It is an annoying situation. Computer is an hp p7-1154 with AMD Quad core A6-3600 processor. Thanks in advance, Paul

Hi I fly mainly in the UK and Europe, when flying single engined VFR I use Generation X Photographic Scenery which is great for flying at around 2000 - 6000 ft. However when flying a 737 at 37,000 ft I would prefer something like Ultimate Terrain X which I own but have not installed. My question - can I have preloaded scenery setups so I can use photographic scenery when flying VFR and UT when flying 'Airline' stuff. I don't want to check and uncheck lots of scenery items in the Scenery Library every time I load FSX. Also on this subject, is there anything better than UT Europe at the moment, I have had this software for many years but not really used it. D…

Hi, I just visited the Black Box Simulations website and I saw that they are developing an A320 series.I also am aware that FlightSimLabs and Aerosoft are also developing A320's. At this point, which one do you guys think will be the best? I am looking for great visuals and very high fidelity aircraft systems Does anyone here have any experience with past Black Box Simulations products? How realistic is the 737 that they offer?

Ok, this a poll for ATI (AMD) users. AMD is the minority in simming communities, but AVSIM seems to attract most of them. So , let's share some personal experience. Which driver is best for FSX, and especially for the 5800 GPU series? It would be nice if you state your preferred drivers and your GPU model.

  13. I got NL2000 installed. This is photorealistic ground scenery for the netherlands (in case you didnt knew) But, this is at the loss of one and more things. Somehow building and tree textures (autogen) is lost. Other ground scenery addons such as rex are lost to. Here I made some pictures to show you how. Here Im in a car on a REX road at the dutch/german border facing the north westfalen region of germany. Nice road huh. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Now lets turn the car 360 at exactly the same spot facing the road the other way towards "gelderland" Uploaded with ImageShack.us Hmm, no road? Yes this is NL2000 overriding REX roads. Or R…

I know STO has to do something with the altimeter in the PMDG 737ngx someone told me that from takeoff you have to used STO instead of the altimeter that gives you 29.92 to used STO instead ontil you pass transition altitude. So do i do the same for the airbus when am decending to? Which would be correct STO or the normal Altimeter Setting 29.92 for landing ?

  17. Hi guys, Just got a quick query that hopefully someone can clear up for me. I've been taking flightplans of Flightaware and then going over to Simroutes.com, generating the flightplan on simroutes. All the waypoints are the same as real life. So then i save the flightplan for FSX however when i load up the flightplan in FSX all the waypoints are different and it seems to take a different route. Just wondering if this always happens or is there a way i can get the simroutes waypoints in FSX? Thanks in advance James Roberts

  18. Really, really really enjoying my new Stratocruiser! (Not "Stratocaster". Definately, definately "Stratocruiser") Got the hang of juggling pilot and engineer duties, along with start up etc...now I just need to start running some full flights! Where it is all falling down a little is on the navigation side. My VOR nav skills are wobbly to say the least and the instrumentation and switches in the B377 are throwing me out even further! Does anyone know of any good tutorials or documents on B377-specific navigation techniques? Cheers

I am trying to find a way in which I can place all of my VA aircraft in the same menu. Sure i could just change the UI_typerole 'commercial airline' to UI_typerole 'BAV' Is it possible to just change it this way, will the BAV then appear in the aircraft type on the select aircraft screen? Would it be possible to just change the line like so UI_typerole 'Commercial Airline' 'BAV' so that the aircraft would be in its original subheading but also in a new one as well. Thanks for the help. Jack

I have GSX and AES, but lately I've been only using GSX. However, though most of you seem to favor GSX, I am noticing that it is a little too repetitve and does the same thing at every airport. AES seems to adapt itself to each individual airport more. Also AES seems to provide more moving gates whereas GSX more often than not will just stick stairs right through a static gate. I was wondering if any of you might share some of your own observations. I do like GSX a lot. It looks great. Perhaps I am missing something in my set up? It's more fun to discuss these things at this forum where you get more open and varied opinions. Lee

Aerosim's FSX Boeing 787 Dreamliner is now on sale on their Japanese site in boxed form, with the download version apparently becoming available in a few days. Like most Aerosim airliners, it is a relatively 'lite' treatment of the aircraft where systems are concerned, but it is a good model of it, with a decent VC. The VC features the HGS amongst other things. There is a video of it on their website, along with a number of screenies - looks quite nice. Not cheap though - about 45 quid apparently. Al

I was just wondering. Here in the UK now it is 20:00pm. It's still light outside, as the sun is setting as I type this. But in FSX it is almost Dark. SO I was thinking in March the clocks went forward, so now it is 20:00pm but before the clocks went forward it would have been 19:00pm Does fsx take Daylight saving into account or not? I am guessing this is the reason why it's so dark in the simulator, because I should set the time to an hour behind to take into account daylight saving. Kind Regards, Dan

I have 2 Blueprint airports KCLE and KDAL for win 7 32 (don't ask) and I have been trying to get 64 bit installers from Blueprint for a couple of weeks now. No response from them, not even a hi. Anyway, I do not know anyone with 32 bit windows 7 and was wondering if there was any way to extract these files. From what I understand it is only the extraction part of the install that is not compatible, is that correct. According to the Blueprint website all I have to do is email request with my order number for these installers and they send them but aparently they are all talk and do not stand by their products at all. Last time I ever do business with them. Thanks a…
