2024 lag spikes seem to be related to wheel speed?

Featured Replies

Maybe I'm the only one, but I've been having framerate issues on the ground, and it seems to be correlated to when I'm moving.  If the plane's sitting still, everything's smooth. As soon as I taxi, it gets a little laggy. On takeoff and landing, it becomes a slideshow. As soon as I'm wheels up, it smooths out again. So it's almost like the tires rotating is what's somehow causing the lag, and the faster they're rotating, the worse the lag gets. Anyone else experience this?

Yes I get such stutters when on takeoff roll that I just quit and go back to MSFS 2020.  Smooth in the air.  Am using dynamic LOD and have things set pretty low.

Could also be related to sound (in this case wheel sound).

I’ve fixed all my stutters and performance issues by ensuring I select a specific output device in sound options and not use the default one. Disabling HDMI sound drivers (unless you use sound via your screen) has also been identified as a potential fix. The final piece to cure my stutters was turning off Fenix cabin announcements in the EFB - so I think it’s fair to say some things related to sound can wreck the whole sim!

A good guide to try: https://support.fenixsim.com/hc/en-us/articles/13436220100239-Recommended-Sound-Settings-Guide

on the subject of sound, make sure your sound drivers are up to date.  I also disabled realtek software and nahamic on my system which seemed to cause sound popping.

I've also suspected that having the correct chipset drivers and making sure they're up-to-date may have similar implications.

I noticed that it is tied to movement speed as well. Did not think of it being connected to sound.

Hmm. I don't have nahamic, but I don't think I can get around using realtek drivers because AFAIK that's the only thing the Reverb G2 works with. I'd love for one of you to tell me I'm wrong, though. I've never been a realtek fan.

But the theory that it's caused by sound, that makes a lot of sense, especially since the wheels are still spinning for a little bit after you leave the ground, but the framerate smooths out as soon as I'm off.

I've gone through the optimization guide at Fenix and most of it is already done on my system, and all my drivers are current.   Hopefully once I track down a 5-series vid card that isn't stupidly overpriced and can switch over to the Pimax that's gathering dust I can drop Realtek entirely.

You can disable the Realtek drivers in device manager and disable their services in Task Manager.  If you find problems, then all you have to do is re-enable them.

Can't, because Realtek is what the Reverb G2 uses for sound.

But disabling the NVidia HDMI sound drivers seems to have smoothed the sim out markedly, even when I turn the graphics settings up higher. I'll keep experimenting but it does look like the wheel sounds combined with that driver being active (but not in use) were lagging the sim. That's just weird.

What aircraft are you using? I've noticed that it's completely random which makes it harder to pinpoint but you could be onto something, I had thought it was to do with the newly introduced Wake Turbulence CFD or something but that's a complete guess.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Ever since I downloaded Auto FPS, literally all my MSFS2024 problems have been solved. No stutters. Fluid gamplay and consistent FPS. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend.

You might try reinstalling the drivers direrct from Realtek rather than using the ones supplied within Windows - I did have some success going down this route on several occasions, in fact, whenever these issues sem to appear, my first action is to reintall these drivers.

It was doing it with all of them, but the problem got worse as the aircraft complexity increases. The Longitude is significantly worse than the Cub, for instance.

Yeah I get it in the Xcub and C208b caravan and it's bad enough in those when it happens, not tried complex aircraft yet.

It was the Xcub that actually made me suspect it had something to do with wheels rolling, but I was going toward things getting laggy because some code about spinning the textures around an axis was bugged. Glad I posted my weirdo theory here and got the audio answer. This issue has been irritating me for months.
