XP12 FPS in X-Plane Manual

Would love to know your XP settings, because I can't run at 60fps locked unless I turn the settings right down

Don't forget that I'm talking about XP11. But I can also see 80-100fps in XP12, with XPlane Map Enhancement + X-WORLD, no payware airports, and with GA aircraft. Airliners are fps heavy in XP12. I still can't enjoy VR in XP12, requires a lot of sacrificing and sadly at least 4090 gpu.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

  • Well, more FPS feels smoother for one, so I do not concur with that statement from the manual. What should be avoided is large fluctuations in FPS. It doesn't help having super smooth 140 FPS whe

    IIRC, an Austin interview said he really wanted to see upwards of 60fps.    I generally keep mine in the 40-50 range unless at a very heavy urban airport  (which I generally avoid 😁).  Wit

Alternatively, lock the frames in XP12 to 30/40 (whichever the minimum your system can handle), and then use lossless scaling adaptive mode, setting it to 90... And that creates smooth frame pacing, which also allows for the benefits of 90 FPS, reducing problems such as latency when looking around or flipping switches.

How?  What settings to achieve that?

Flying over the pacific in a 172 in clear weather...

I generally have around 35FPS at big airports, loose about 5 fps with AI traffic. Be interested to see what happens when AI are multi thread

Isn't AI pretty much multithreaded already? At least I have more busy cores with AI than without.

By the way: When was the "Enable AI" checkbox introduced? This totally flew below my radar.

It may be more tge ATC part was mentioned somewhere. But certainly having eveyvai flight model seperate. Not sure howvit works. We see.

Wow. 100FPS hit with laminar AI active, now that’s something!

Please start proofreading your posts. Those typos were 100% avoidable.

Triple the frame time, get a third of the FPS.

Now throw orthos, X-World and VR into the mix and XP would grind to a halt. 😅

Disable 3d trees especially if sunrise/set is frequently on the flightplan. The shadow casting through the 3d branches at low sun horizon angles wrecks havoc on perf.

And linux.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Not much hit with a 4090

That wouldn't entirely surprise me. My 7900xt crashes by 50% when I look out through the tree tops of a forest with the sun directly behind the camera view. The collapse is from the 100+ scenario in Bjoern's screenshots above so it's not the end of days either.

I had RivaTuner set to 45fps for XP12. I read about the fps data output in XP12, so I turned RivaTuner off.  I was surprised to see the fps was averaging 80fps and going over 100fps outside cities!

I'd rather stop using X-Plane altogether than revert to a mid-90s flightsim scenery configuration.

Fortunately, I can code and am not afraid to invade X-Plane's privacy.

Quote

local XP12DR_SunPitch = dataref_table("sim/graphics/scenery/sun_pitch_degrees")
local XP12DR_Shadow_FarLimit = dataref_table("sim/private/controls/shadow/csm/far_limit_exterior")

local offset = 0 -- The target shadow far limit at 0° sun angle
local slope = ((1000-offset)/67) -- Calculates the slope, sun pitch as on the equator at jun 21st.

function Tweaks()
    -- Target: Far limit of 100 at 0° sun pitch and of 1000 at 67° sun pitch, slope is thus (1000-100)/67
    XP12DR_Shadow_FarLimit[0] = slope * math.abs(XP12DR_SunPitch[0]) + offset
    if XP12DR_Shadow_FarLimit[0] > 1000 then XP12DR_Shadow_FarLimit[0] = 1000 end -- Clamp to the default of 1000.
end

do_every_frame("Tweaks()")

If you set shadow quality to minimum and run this script with FlyWithLua, the FPS hit when looking away from the sun at low angles will be negligible.

That's not an excuse as you can edit your posts any time for a few hours. Since writing is the only form of communicaton we have here, it must be of the utmost quality.
