FS24 isn't doing well on Steam. Neither is FS20.

PS not to mention the 'minecraft' runways when you're above 3000ft ish. Or the awful vehicle traffic, or boats popping in to place when you're 300 foot above them.

...

You mean you are not a fan of the vehicle traffic playing 'pong'.  They zip about at stupid speeds and seem to bounce and reverse at junctions. At least we had the opportunity to slow them down in FSX / P3D (although you had to edit a config file).  The traffic looked a lot better slowed down to a reasonable level as you didn't notice the ponging around so much.  This is also another example of another imperfect system brought into this 'new' sim that we paid for again.

It is such a shame.  It has so much promise, but at this rate it will take years of work.

Like Chris said, I just don't trust it so I hardly use it these days.  Feels like I wasted my money on this 'new technology' sim that uses mainly old bits, and the new bits are broken.
I couldn't even 'escape' or button click out of the controls setup menu last night.  It just wouldn't budge.  I had to use Alt-4 in the end to quit the program.
I am now waiting for the usual pedant to come along and ask me if I understand what a beta is , but to test betas we at least need the basics right so we CAN test.  and controls setup is A BASIC requirement for that.

PS.  Looks like my Tobii profile is messed up again as well, so that will take another manual edit of a text file again, in a program that says it has a partnership with Tobii, but can't set it up in program like even 2020 was able to.  Not good at all.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Er, people who are interested in flight simulation and the prospect of continued support for our hobby down the years? As usual it will probably turn into another miserable MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can

Haha it’s awful isn’t it? We know it can be done much better as that other `one’ proves it… That one isn’t perfect but it is worlds better.

This is one of those things that is most annoying. It’s such a basic system, made so complicated. It simply isn’t working as intended, 5 months in! Every other game that uses Tobii (that I know of) doesn’t have this most basic of issues.

Maybe the Navigraph survey will help give us a better idea of steam vs. xbox.

In the meantime, why don't we all just agree to switch to P3Dv6?

My dream. After disastrous start of MSFS2024, LM is purchasing the entire MSFS franchise together with Asobo and use it as a base for P3Dv7

Yeah I think if somehow Microsoft decided to totally pull the plug on 2020 and 2024, most of the hardcore sim type would move to xplane not p3dv6.

which would be the same crew that finds rocks so fascinating in flightsim 😉   AI placed rocks mind you!!

As others have said, the LOD is just a show stopper for me.  Seeing contrails from 15 miles away, the line of traffic 3 and 4 planes deep for landing, seeing ships from any altitude, no objects popping at airports that keeps me elsewhere.  That and the great sim delete of 2025 which was the last beta I will ever enter with Asobo.

Same as my initial transition to the other one, I'll hang out here with my outdated sim some people can't stand to look at and could never go back to "knowing" I am going to enjoy every flight vs that constant waiting for something to go wrong feeling 2024 still gives me.

What MS/Asobo need is stiff competition, currently there's no other simulation on the market to truly challenge them. If they had for example "Google Earth Simulator" with it's own integrated flight physics, Marketplace, SDK, digital twin etc etc then it'd push MS/Asobo to up their game entirely which is what they'd have to do to stay relevant. DCS, X Plane are both more hardcore simulators so I don't see them a major competition here.

As it is they can get away with a dreadful release with MSFS2024, continually poor quality control that hasn't improved in five years, continually mediocre beta periods etc as they have no immediate competition to make them do better.

Ok JD, we get it, you don't like FS24 but you don't have to put on the tinfoil either.

I dislike FS24's state as much as any other but there's really no need to make those kind of statements.

I'm mixed on wanting more competition.  Obviously we all want the best sim we can possibly get.  But it does come at a cost.  The 3rd party developer market is already niche and small.  Can't imagine them being divided even more than they already are.

P3D6? LMAO....

BTW when is the Navi results coming out to be released or MS trying to manipulate (Polls) that in favor of 2024?

I think the call to move to P3D6 might have been slightly tongue in cheek?

As to the Navigraph survey; there seems to be a tremendous amount of confusion about what this is for.

It's not a beauty pageant. It's to give 3rd party developers an idea of where their market is moving and what kind of spending patterns that market possess. Hence all the age, intention and income questions.

Yeah agree, see Sim racing, loads of decent titles all great in their own way but players spread very thinly. At least with flight/world simulation you can/could cater to a much larger audience. I think there's easily room for one more big player in this market.

We can still use MSFS2020 happily for some time without issues, especially if Asobo stops dropping those annoying patches. I left FS2004 scene in 2015, twelve years after it's release, and  after the time when FSX bit a bullet and P3D was in its second iteration.

We'll be fine 🙂  There are other things in the world to worry about now.

Well we are aware that the market is target at MS2024 (today) until MS/Announce MS2028 in 2027 its going to happen so what will 2024 users do then?. XPlane is doing fine for what they do and they are getting better not worse. P3D is dead meat in the entertainment market. That is my IMO. So for MS 2020 and 2024 will be gone in 4 years so get used to it. Its a cycle that we live in and deal with or not to do so.
