I will try to update the main post with as many reviews as I can find. Feel free to post any that I've missed.

Overall consensus appears to be that the simulator is a marvellous achievement marred by several technical issues.

First reviews are now coming in to Metacritic, starting strong:

Those less than 5-star reviews are from tree-loggers.

Wow - Metacritic is at 98 now with 8 included reviews. This is awesome considering that we really want MS to support this product for 10+ years. Yes, they have said they will but if we would have seen an axing in the reviews and poor sales that would never happen anyway...

So - I guess an avalanche of new community members are incoming soon 🙂 Let's make sure to make them feel as welcome as possible!

And - we really need to go there and write user reviews when it gets released - same with Steam. There is such a tedious tradition these days of people giving one star reviews writing that the love everything but their pet feature X is missing. As the adults in the room we need to see through the rough edges on release and give the best reviews we can to support the sales of the product. We will for sure benefit from that as a massive user base will produce amazing addons etc where the 3PD can actually make money on quality aircraft while keeping the prices at a reasonable level.

Wow.  MSFS has a score of 95 currently. The best reviewed game of 2020, Half-life Alyx, has a score of 93: https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/pc/filtered?sort=desc&year_selected=2020.  That's not to say MSFS can keep its score of 95, but if it does, it would be on track to be the best reviewed game of 2020.

Anyways, a score of 95 is an excellent start for MSFS.

Like I wrote yesterday, it's a perfect storm. The right product with the right scope at exactly the right time.

Yes, probably, sadly.

Cyberpunk is basically just Deus Ex and GTA mixed together. Might become a great game, but nothing revolutionary.

MSFS2020 is the best thing to come out this year.

Been playing since FS1 and waiting for this alot.

 

I agree that Cyberpunk will get a lot of attention upon release but it will likely be MSFS that appeals to the masses. If we consider who is likely to 'play' MSFS versus Cyberpunk, in my opinion, I think MSFS will cross more age groups and types of people than those who will play Cyberpunk. MSFS could really become a platform for everyone who wants to simply explore the world as pure escapism or learn how to fly etc.

This goes way beyond the realm of a standard video game such as Cyberpunk which targets true 'gamers'. This is where I think MSFS could really stand out from the crowd and be an absolute game changer in how the world 'sees' video games versus real world simulators being taken to the next level. I suppose in a tongue in cheek sense (but kind of true), we are seeing a first step into a plausible Matrix type recreation of the our world, especially when VR becomes available for the sim.
