MSFS 2020 Request for Suggested Airports to fly from

Featured Replies

For those in the Alpha, can you tell us your best airports to fly from or to?

That all depends on the type of flying and landscape you're interested in. Personally, I want to start simple and relearn my flying using the Savage Cub, progressing to the Xcub, then to the SR22 and finally the TBM. For that I'd like a sleeply-ish little rural airport. From the detailed airfield list I think I'll go with Sedona or possibly Telluride. But some of the standard 37,000 airfields might be good enough, so another project I have is to look through past YouTube videos by Trent Palmer, Jonas Marcinko, Aviation101 and Steveo1kinevo and others for interesting strips. I also know the Daher factory has its own airfield and I have a sneaking suspicion it might be quite well modelled in the sim since it's down the road from Asobo and they have been working closely with them for the TBM.

Thanks Bottle...I like all types of flying from bush flying, to flying over mountains such as the US Pacific North West and US Appalachian mountains, or the European Alps, to flying the tubers between European cities.

I'm just trying to get an idea of good flyover areas from good airports in MSFS 2020.

I hope I'm not telling anything I'm not allowed to, but with MSFS, I guess the whole idea of "favourite" or "best" areas or airports to fly around will dramatically change for most people.

Let's just say the world is beautiful in a lot of places.

I suggest you start at your local small airport and fly one of the GA aircraft to find your house.  Then explore the nearby area to check out things you are familiar with from real life.  Then fly places you're very familiar with from previous sims.

Because it's all good, and it won't matter much where you're flying.  I've seen things you wouldn't believe... 😄

I wish we had a better look at local GA airports with MSFS. More interested in how well they are depicted as I now fly exclusively GA and with FSX have flown into and out of 317 airports.  197 of them with the favor of both freeeware and payware addons.  FSX was dismal, and the advent of highly detailed satellite scenery the default airports suffered from appearing, disappearing, then reappearing scenery objects.

Most of what I have seen so far in screenies and videos have been major airports visited by tubeliners.

You sound like Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner.

@flyblueskies I'd suggest flying INTO Toncontin (MHTG) which has a Circling approach...low and over the mountains...and it is one of the airports given special attention by Asobo/MS per their recent release of such info.

Well I'm wondering too but it won't affect my purchase decision 😛 So let's just wait and see in 3 weeks 🙂

Does anyone know if the dirt runway in the movie Air America exist? That would be a good one to have fun with.

Was it Long Tien  ? I don't remember the movie on this point. If so Lima 20A is still clearly visible on GE.

Yep but I was actually a little silly as Air America was shot in Thailand,  Laos had fallen to the communists 15 years earlier ! I think that it was shot   between one of my favorite Indochina airports, Mae Hong Son in the NW of the country and Chang Mai.

But some of the Lima sites are still visible in Laos. I did a litlle scenery for myself fin FS9 for Long Tien (not worth releasing, mesh problems) and an AA livery for Milton Shupe's Beech D18 still at Asvim. The AA saga is fascinating for those who have been in this region when it was hot.

I wish we could have a good Skyraider from A2A. I do not hold my breath.
