WIN11 OS Forum

Windows 11 is the newest OS release coming from Microsoft, first available to the public on 5 Oct 2021. We have opened this forum as a community venue to discuss the new OS and how it relates to use as a platform for our flight simulators. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN11.

As I get disgused with "Applization" of Microsoft's strategy on OS with newer win10 and win11, and win7 is really stating to show it's age, I stating to think about Linux... At least X-Plane is a big title that mostly (but not some add-ons) runs well with Linux. I have heard that Steam Proton could managed to run MSFS on Linux, but not much information about it, and I'm really curious about P3D and it's tones of add-ons as well. Lack of those information hold me back on win7 still, would it be good to add Linux OS Forum for flight simmers to share such information? Thanks.

  2. Hi all, When I upgraded to Win10, it killed my P3D licence and I had to ask LM to remove the old activation so I could run it again. Will an in place Win11 upgrade do the same? How about any PMDG products, will they need deactivating first? Many thanks, Ian

Windows 11 got rid of toolbars. In previous versions of Windows you could also have as many vertical toolbars as you wanted on the horizontal taskbar. They can be restored to Windows 11 easily with valinet / Explorer patcher. Just download it, and click to install it. Toolbars will be back and to be used exactly as they were in Windows 10,8,7, Vista, etc. Explorer patcher is on GetHub (click 'setup program' link to download it). https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher ===================================== Toolbar icon on the right hand side of the Taskbar. (Windows 11): ============================================ Click …

Hey guys. I'm about to smash my new $6k PC with a hammer. Everything was running fine, then today whenever I tried to star MSFS it would close during loading. After a 3 hour complete re-install, it loaded, then I installed FSUIPC, FBWA320, FS2CREW, and AIG and same thing - it closed during loading. In troubleshooting, I tried to delete the .exe file but had to change permissions. I changed all the AppData permissions to /administrator and gave everything full access. And then every application went bonkers. I can't start XBOX Gaming Service, I can't start the Windows Store. I can't go into Windows Defender. All of these apps just instantly close the moment they …

  5. A new problem! Since late last night, Edge crashes 2 seconds after I start it. This happened after I had a BSoD ("CRITICAL PROESS DIED", which has since happened a second time). Strangely, I can right click the shortcut and open a new InPrivate window (which I'm using right now to type this) and it remains stable, but as soon as I then try and open a regular Edge window, both will CTD. Whether connected or not, this issue occurred a few days after I installed an optional update for DtsApo4Service.exe (as in DTS audio) and there is no option to roll back so I've disabled that service but it hasn't helped. I have also been unable to roll back using System Restore as it alwa…

  11. healthcheck app: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11 If you pass MS Windows Health check app, but then go to settings / Updates and Security, and it says no, your system is not qualified, then chances are your system does qualify if has passed the Windows Health Check app. So here's what you can do. Go here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 This MS online site will also check your system just like the Health Check app did, and if it says your system meets requirements then you can proceed to update to windows 11 right there on that site. You have 10 days to roll back to Windows 10, after that it's Win 11 o…

Am building a new rig at the moment. Will be a new install of W10 Pro. What is the general concensus on Win 11? Is it worth me upgrading to 11, or is it too unreliable and buggy? How are you finding it, those who have given it a bash?

Just an empty white strip, with that little up arrow that indicates startup stuff.Default desktop picture, with only a few icons.Windows key + I (to get to Settings) not working. Settings flashes on for a few seconds, then banishes. My hard drive shows the correct free space, but my music, pics & video folders are empty.Edge reverting to initial Edge setup on reboot. So, I rolled back a few days, and Uninstalled the latest update, as well as checking file integrity etc.. 17. MS has announced that Win10 will be shown the door in 2025. A few leaks have emerged already showing the Win11 GUI WIP but if these are real is anyones guess. This has me wondering how it will affect MSFS. Will Win11 give us better performance? We have a long wait but it will be interesting to see what additional info MS gives us. Will this be a free upgrade like 10, I doubt it somehow. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/06/make-way-for-windows-11-windows-10-end-of-life-is-october-2025/

  19. I ran the windows 11 system check program and my systems was good to go except it said I needed to enable Secure Boot. I did that and afterwards my computer would not boot up. It took me a while to figure it out but I have my Windows 10 booting up on an SSD. I was able to find out that for Secure Boot to work I would have to have my OS on an internal HHD. I am not about to move my OS, Super Hassle. I hope Microsoft is going to fix this. I believe there are lots of simmers who have their OS on an SSD. Is this an issue for others on this forum?

  20. To get Toolbars back into the Windows 11 Taskbar simply download and install this. Took me a minute. Poof! Toolbars are now back on the right click Taskbar options list. https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher (Scroll down to How To and click on Setup Program). reference: In Window 10 when you right click on the Taskbar one of the items in the context menu that pops up is Toolbars. Toolbars are vertical bars that pop up when you click a Toolbar icon on the Taskbar. The Toolbar can contain organized folders. In Win10 I had an organized folder for MSFS which held all my plane manuals. shortcuts to Community and to Profiles, LittleNavM…

Has anyone tried to download the new Windows 11 and if you seen or had any issues with the various P3DV5, FSLabs, and add-ons - I'm waiting until December 2021 while I'm on Christmas Vacation to decide on whether I want to download and upgrade to the new windows 11. I have a 2-year old high end PC and currently I have everything running smoothly with no issues after many months of tweaking, I hate to loose my current setup. Regards, SimForLife

I have just upgraded to Windows 11 Home after it was made available to me through Windows Update. Build is 22000.282 Overall, I have had no performance problems using Xplane on my PC running Ryzen 7 3700x (16GM Ram), AMD Radeon RX 5700XT (8GB VRAM). My one major glitch is that my backup software no longer works (based on a Windows 2003 server) due to security protocols no longer supported. Other than that, my pain is adapting to the new taskbar layouts and menu choices. I would not recommend upgrading to Win11 unless you are willing to invest in the learning curve which was higher than I expected. All my installed applications except as above were un…
