Anyone else have the problem of flashing effects and other anomolies in DX10? I have this with lights at airports that flash on and off as well as the aircraft contrails. Also notice on the PMDG J-41 that the ground smoke effect or maybe its blowing snow effect behind the engines seems to follow the plane around in flight but it ends up below the aircraft by about 50 feet? Same with Concorde smoke?

Over the past few weeks I've been experimenting with a number of different settings (based on all great work that Paul, Steve, Word Not Allowed, Bojote, etc. have done) to try and maximize the advantages of DX10 on my system, and have stumbled upon something interesting (IMHO!) - DX10 can actually be made to work with unlimited frames set in the sim, without blurries, stutters, or artifacts (that were inherently associated to that setup in DX9)! One of the biggest advantages of running unlimited frames is the higher framerate and overhead it allows (compared to locked frames), especialy when running detailed models at airports with AI, HD clouds, road traffic, SweetF…

Good Super Bowl night to all ! After a couple of BSOD before finding correct overclock settings, FSX works fine except for when I exit a flight, main menu is all messed up, a little like when shaders are wrong, not only the plane but all the menu text is all over the place... Any toughts ? going back to stock speeds give the same result. Thanks Alain from Montreal

I abandoned DX10 with my old PC because with my old graphics card, their were just too many issues and after spending many hours I just could not get it to run in a stable manner. Then, my old PC decided it didn't like electricity any longer! New PC and heaven, all worked really well. So after a week or two MORE new purchases were made and loaded and it was time to actually fly. After spending the usual time planning I was finally airborne. Bliss. This did not last long. What were those regular dings? Not heard those for ages, then crash. Yep OOM had struck with a vengeance. UTX, GEX, FSGenisis, FSAltutude, ExperienceX, UK2000 airports the NGX all running i…

I cant seem to get rid of this annoying cloud flashing in DX10 Preview. This happens when their is rain or snow and overcast skies. As soon as I take off and start flying through some clouds, I get a flashing almost like there is lighting... This doesn't happen in DX9 but I prefer to use DX10 since I get almost 35% increase in FPS over DX9. I have tried the SwarmCloud tweak but that has not helped me. Anyone else have suggestions or tweaks. I run every slider maxed except cloud draw which is set to 110 miles. Hardware: I5 3570K @4.4 Gigabyte GTX670 8GB 1866 CL9 Please help me! Regards, Ivo

Hi, As some will know, I've just re-installed FSX, doing everything by the book, and am very happy indeed with FSX/DX10. Until now that is! I've suddenly acquired the most awful water. I like the very realistic breakers in DX10, but now every little river has breakers which would challenge a surfer, plus a muddy background mixed in with the blue. The link is of a part of upper Southampton Water (Orbx EU) https://www.dropbox....ful Water.jpg?m I did install Accufeel, and update it to V2, but I think that was before the sudden change in how the water looks. I have mid high set in FSX. Since I'm not very clever, I could sure use some suggestions as to…

In general my move to DX10 has been one of the best FSX improvements to date. Except for one re-occurring problem: Every once in a while I get a scenery stall. That is, FSX simply stops dead and it takes approx 5 or more seconds to start again. Nothing is lost, visuals stay on the screen, etc, it just stalls. On average about once every 30 min. This occurs mainly in heavy scenery areas like Orbx, The new CYVR, etc. Strangly, this didnt happen in DX9 so just wondering where to start looking. Ive followed the DX10 guide to the letter for all setups and adjustments.

i've find a solution: go to the scenery folder of your addon scenery, find XXXlight or XXXpapy bgl's, and just erase them the only problem is that there will be no PAPY in your airport.

Howdy A few weeks ago I decided to try the new DX10 mod. Backing up my FSX files and applying the shader 3.2.2, and editing the cfg etc... As well I backed up my NI dx9 and dx10 settings. I am very pleased with this mod. In many ways FSX is a whole new sim for me. Thanks to everyone who've made it possible and those that continue to help the community. My question is, although I love DX10 I would like to stick with it, there are times when I would like to go back to try some things out in DX9. Can I just simply change D3D10=1 to D3D10=0 and load up my dx9 Inspector settings and virtually have for the most part a DX9 FSX, without doing a full restore. …

I just converted the FSX to DX10 and did everything according to guide (thanks a lot to you great people!). I kept all the settings in FSX configuration identical to my DX9 which is pretty much all maxed except traffic etc. Of course I enabled AA and added those DX10 specific lines to the FSX.cfg. I have a pretty fast computer (4.9GHz i-2500/GTX580/SSD and Win7 64bit). Overall, things are fine and I don't have any serious complains. DX10 water looks much nicer than DX9! But I have to say that the overall image quality is not noticeably better than DX9 (I use 30fps vsync, 8xS + 4xSGSS, same as DX9). I was bit disappointed that I see no improvement in terms of FPS. It i…

I love almost everything about DX10, especially the elimination of graphical spikes that I used to see with BP=0 on DX9. However one challenge remains, shimmering of ground objects and in particular winter trees (branches without leaves have lots of transparency inbetween) and airports in the distance. To get near to the level of quality I had with DX9, the following configuration is necessary: MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 MultiSampleQuality=8 8xSGSS Of course, it's not long before this is a frame rate killer whenever significant clouds are involved. So my question is, is there some other way to do this or should I really be lowering my expectations of ima…

Hello, Does anyone know of a way to fix the problem with the red PAPI lights in FlyTampa's Dubai Rebooted? There is also a problem with the strobes that display as black squares. This is such an excellent scenery and it will be a pity to dump DX10, I can live with day time flying only but the red and black squares on approach are quite distracting. ConvertX doesn't seem to help either as the texture sheet is the effects folder which doesn't seem to be in the list of folders pre-processed by ConvertX. This was Martin's response when this was asked on the FlyTampa forum: http://www.flytampa....php?f=24&t=5749 thanks Paul

A picture says a thousand words, night doesn't look like night in DX10 because my water is a very light colour. I do have AS2012 water textures, and water set to High.2X in FSX. I have 3.2.2 of the DX10 fixes. Do you guys have the same problem? Or know what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you to everyone for sharing your discoveries and tutorials for setting up DX10. I'm hopeful that going to DX10 will be a net gain but I'm blocked by one very visible glitch: my clouds are clipped - see attached image. I reverted to my DX9 settings and the problem goes away. This is with stock clouds and with Active Sky 2012 clouds, both uncompressed and DX5 compressed. It seems to occur only at the edges of wide angle views; in other words angles maybe 30+ degrees off boresight of the camera. Perhaps the cloud shader math breaks down at large angles? To best duplicate go to a tower view on a cloudy day and zoom out the view a few clicks then pan around the s…

Hi all quick question How do I check which version of the HLSL shader folder i'm running, I've been running the dx10 version for a while but I've never bothered to update as things were running ok,but its been a while now so I thought I might try upgrading if its worth it how do I check which version of the shader files I'm running and what would be the easiest way to update it. Thanks

Hi all, I just found this forum a couple days ago after restarting my sim hobby that has been on hiatus for about 9 years.Wow things have changed! Ive picked up a copy of FSX Gold, a new stick and throttle and have been having loads of fun getting back into things. I came across the DX10 and shader tweaks yesterday and wanted to give them a shot. I followed the How-to and everything went swimmingly. FSX looks even better and performs a bit better too. However, no matter what I do I cannot get vsync to enable. Im running a AMD 6870 with cat 12.10 Ive tried every combination of Catalyst settings for vsync with the two FSX.cfg lines (ForceFullScreenVSync=1, D…

My fellow pilots, I've never even considered using DX10 preview, but after reading several topics on here I'm thinking it might be a good move. Pretty sure I run a i7 3.4ghz with a GTX 550... although i'm going off memory as I am at work! Questions are: given my specs, is it a good move? - are there any important things I should do to get the best out of DX10? Fixes, patches etc... Apologies if this has been covered in another thread... Rob

I'm trying to install the DX10 fix for FSX by Steve Parsons but I'm having a bit of a problem. When I try to run setup.bat I get the following message: "general10.fx shader has readonly attribute set" I've checked the file in question, and indeed the entire folder and it does *not* have the read only attribute set. I've tried running the installer on my laptop install of FSX as well and get exactly the same message. I see in the original thread someone had a similar problem and was advised to run the "take ownership" app on the FSX folder, which I have done to no avail. I also see that Paul J uploaded the modified shader to his Dropbox but the link is now dead…

I am running FSX DX11 and getting very good FPS. I have installed Steve Parson's shader fixes v3.2.2 and they are working fine. The following happened at 4,000 feet with low ceiling and just inland off the coast of Florida. They did clear up as I dropped altitude for an approach but I was curious if anyone might have an idea what caused this other than DX. Is it one of my settings? Thanks!

I've always thought of myself as "up-on-things" when it comes to flight simming, but I have to admit that I had NO idea that anyone was using FSX in DX10 mode. Well, I do now... and I am one of them (as of about 10 minutes ago!!!) LOL! I followed Paul's guide and I can't believe how good FSX looks now... and more importantly, how WELL it runs. I have all the ORBX stuff, REX, GEX, UTX, FSDT CYVR... etc. I loaded the PMDG NGX, ORBX NA, and FSDT CYVR and sat there with the NGX completely configured. I could not believe my eyes as the FPS hovered between 25 and 30. AS I taxied, took-off, and flew, there were no stutters, slowdowns, flashes... nothing. Just "near fluid" mo…
