I havent touched XPLANE since MSFS2020 released, but i've always had the itch to try the hotstart challenger, and with the new weather and lighting enhancements that have come to xplane recently I am thinking more and more about buying XP12 and the challenger. I want to dig into the systems and fly that puppy all over the world. Its a big investment in time and money, if it weren't for the challenger I would be perfectly happy and busy sticking with pmdg and fenix on msfs2024. Not trying to start and xp vs msfs thread, but I only have so much time and Im happy with what I have currently and don't want to spend too much time tweaking the sim. So I have a few questions…

Why does the baron 58 in X plane 12 have the gear in up position on takeoff? Haven't been able to receive any help from X plane geniuses. Anybody having the same problem? Mrbb

I try the XP 12 demo with Cessna 172 G100 in VR with a HP Reverb G2 headset. The view through the propeller is flickering with a distorted view as a result. What could that be and what setting could fix it

Several days past I had just completed the Linux installation on my PC - today the SSD on which all things XPlane was installed decided it was time to die - corrupted and busted to the point even my backups could not be retrieved. So off to get a new drive and start the whole process all over. Just when you thought - anything you like. Expletives deleted!!

I am always looking at stuff I once saw represented in some platform and apreciated, and yesterday while sing again IL-2 Great Battles I recalled a detail I really like to see in that platform - trim tabs and dynamic pressure effects... In IL-2, just as in som DCS modules, you set a given displacement, by default or through controls in the aircraft, of an aileron, rudder, elevator trim tab, but, if it's not a "force-trim" or a "stabilator", then the associated control surfae will only move from it's neutral position once dynamic pressure builds up, and then you see it moving. Does anyone have a solution for, or know why the X-plane G1000 fonts are so far removed from the font that Garmin uses? It really distracts from the whole look and feel of the X1000. For example, the zeros have a diagonal bar through them, and the nines are just wrong in X-plane. I did a search online and there are fonts available that are almost, if not, identical to the ones that Garmin uses. I have never understood this. Glenn

Hello fellow simmers, I do not know how to get my side deck radios to work in explain 12. Can anyone give me some tips as to how to get that working?

Last night I tried to do another flight with SSG 747 after not having flown it for a few months and I know it underwent a couple of updates recently. I am also well-aware that they rebranded as FPS and released a slightly improved version and the SSG one has now been deprecated and is no longer offered for sale, but based on Q8Pilot's review it's completely not worth it. What was startling was that I don't remember SSG being as bad as it is now. None of the FMC logic follows Boeing logic, none of it works like it should - the flow is all messed up. You can't navigate pages easily. You have to go through index to get anywhere you need and it's just a total mess. Perfo…

4th Release Anniversary Stream

This came up in my YT feed. Gave it a try on 12.4b1, max Graphics settings with Zibo, Orbx TE GB S, and London City airport/London downtown (which was utterly impossible BEFORE 12.4b1 😉 ). IIRC, I was getting fairly regular micro-stutters before, now it seems smooth as butter (after a grand total of 10 minutes, so YMMV...). FPS seems the same, just the stutters are gone. Requires an RTX 40x0 card and an updated Nvidia driver.

Hey all, I am doing another flight with FF 777 and the briefing is in a completely different format than it was before. Did they change it? It starts with a title page now and maps are next and everything useful is buried in the middle. Did they change it universally? I thought it may just be FF777, but then I selected PMDG 777 and it's the same deal.

All the to and fro over XPlane and MS sort of ignores the steady and incremental improvements to XPlane, more so the so called lack of addon aircraft or developers bailing or not doing stuff. What more modern stuff you could want I am not sure as the tubeliner world is already very well covered and GA or light aircraft even more so. In fact I cannot think of many aeroplanes that I would hanker after to add to my sim world. Sorry, I had to switch to TDS, and it is fighting with rxpGTN-650-XPL. This does not show up in the APP library, so I cannot simply uninstall it from windows. I love it. I wish all developers who produce long haul airliners (looking at you Flight Factor) would give this option in their planes. I’m not one for many hours on time compress but I love some of those long haul jets. Cyber nice to be able to skip hours ahead to a more interesting segment of your flight. Perfect feature to incorporate T7. Appreciate it in my Tolis A320 busses. That’s why my next purchase will be the Tolis A300-900. Finally a long haul heavy for a three hour sim session.

I don't specifically remember reading about this new(?) feature, but just saw examples posted for the updated KDEN payware. This is stunningly good! Anyone know other sceneries making use of it? I just don’t see any snow on the ground after flying through a blizzard into Albany NY. It’s snowing but just Autumn textures below. Am I right to assume LR hasn’t created winter textures yet? Maybe in the future?
