I somehow mistakenly posted this in the mesh scenery forum earlier. It has come to my attention that when using my Freeport, Bahamas MYGF scenery with the FS X modified terrain.cfg installed (available in the AVSIM library as fsx_modified_terrain_cfg.zip), trees occur in taxiways and aprons. I have also observed that some UTX-TAC added roads do not appear when using this terrain.cfg file. Upon further investigation, it appears that the modified terrain.cfg file rendered the airport background tagged "Flatten Exclude AutoGen" ineffective for removing autogen, and all of the trees for the landclass exist on the airport. Hey folks, I need some beginners help with scenery design, I have no idea where to start, but what I would like to do is ti make things like, my local football ground, shopping centre (my house lol) you get the idea. I have been using the files MT Trees to add trees to scenery's in FS9 with no problems. However, when using the same files in FSX, I get a transparent area at the top of the trees. Would like to know and have recommendations on which tree library objects you use for placement in FSX. Thanks

I am trying to encourage someone to produce a scenery package for FS9 of the Tompkins Regional Airport located in Ithaca, New York. It is a neat little airport located in the Central Southern Tier of New York State. A package was produced of this airport for FSX, but the creator has no plans of doing it for FS9. KITH has an ILS runway 32, and has hills and Cayuga Lake that border it. I have no talent regarding scenery creation, so I would really appreciate it if someone would take a look at this airport and place it on AVSIM.com or Flightsim.com for all to enjoy. Hi found in my FSX default sceneries files like: dem004.bg_ dem006.bg_ the orginal file of a clean installation was dem004.bgl dem006.bgl this I find in a lot of folders - do you know why this bgls are deactivated and which programm is doing this? Thnx for answer TOM

Probably not a big deal to most scenery makers, but I for one am sad to hear that Google will no longer be supporting it's Building Maker online tool. This tool allowed the user to create basic buildings using available google earth imagery, then save the building model in the Google 3D warehouse. The models could be opened with Google Sketchup and edited for inclusion to FS scenery with a couple quick manipulations using various free development tools. Granted the models were not super high quality, but it was a fast and easy way to populate your scenery areas with real buildings, creating a better sense of imersion in FS. Hi all. I've been following the pinned framerate thread in the FS9 forum and last night pretty well finished tidying up my user and AI aircraft in FS2004. I branched out and started experimenting with some payware airports which were short of mipmaps, and decided to take a picture of something I've often noticed but never investigated- the effect had by some chainlink fences (see the picture below). The fence texture seems to be just a plain 8 bit bmp. The user and AI planes are identical, Microsoft's original C172. What is it about the fence that allows FS9 AI to respond correctly to the fence's transparency while the player aircraft won't? Cheers, D

I have acquired 15cm/pixel imagery all in DDS tiles measuring 2048x2048 . In total 195 tiles . I'm pretty new to photo scenery and I was just wondering is there a way this can be used in SBuilderX and how ?

I have two bgl files that I want to disassemble to get the objects and locations. I don't know if they are FS9 or FSX type bgl's. I have tried all the tools that I have (newbglanalyze, bglannalyze, bglanalyzex, bgl2xml, and a lot of others) without being able to disassemble them. How can I determine if they are FS9 or FSX types and then how can I disassemble them? One is an AFX file which I can open with ASX and show the airport layout but I don't know if it contains any scenery objects, in addition to the airport info. Thanks, Bob.

I enjoy "building" local airports in my area. I've been doing this for years, using EZ scenery in fs9 and now Instant Scenery 2 in FSX. One thing that I've wondered about when using both programs is where are the files located that determine the textures of the runways, aprons, etc. As an example, I have a choice between three grass textures and they are almost identical. Concrete is great, but dirt and sand are not so great. Can these textures be changed or modified? At least can someone point me to where they are?? Hope that made a little sense. Thanks Barry

I was banging my head against this all day, perhaps someone knows how this is done: I have a building project that I am doing in Gmax, and I wished to get the building footprints very correct. So, I created a ground bitmap with 0.5m / pixel satellite imagery through FSEarthTiles, sliced a 1024 x 1024 chunk from it, and applied it to a 512 x 512 sized plane in Gmax, which I can then use to size my buildings' footprint. Everything works fine, but after a bit of comparison, it becomes clear that the image isn't scaled quite right... Hello, I'm using FSET along with Photoshop CS6 to create photoreal scenery and have an issue where some times I can see "borders" at the edges of tiles. I'm not sure why they show up. The attached picture shows obvious ones out off shore. I get some on inland tiles though too and they are usually red when they show up. I'm wondering if maybe it's related to something I'm doing in the blend mask? I create 8-bit, greyscale TIFF's in PS from the originals downloaded from FSET. I then compile with resample using the generated inf from FSET. The scenery looks fine and works fine with the exception of these "borders". Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for…

I'm only a newbie here but I've just uploaded 113 airfields and trotted over here for a look around. It occurs to me that I'm reading a lot of FS9 strings when I'm really only able to help with FSX. (I've forgotten a lot of the other). Would it be possible to have one forum for FSX and one for FS9? Alan

Hi all, I distinctly remember reading something about a fast way to draw a polygon to "hide" default scenery objects, but can't find it now. It seemed really basic, just drawing on top of the default scenery. It was probably one of the airport editors? (Bonus question!! : what's the easiest software to use to modify runways/taxiways?) Is it possible to put custom lettering on FSX scenery objects? I would like to put lettering on a control tower such as Welcome (name of airport) and elevation. I would also like to put company logos and lettering on some default hangars. What scenery design program is best suited for this? It can be freeware or payware.

Hi Folks, I can't seem to find anything that I can understand regarding sloping scenery. I have a scenery (Eiresim Shannon) which is at the correct altitude but is slight too high for the mesh and therefore sits on a plateau. How do I make a sloping flatten to make this more easy on the eye? Is it a case of making a surround or does it start from the centre of the airfield? Thanks Ron

Hi all, Can someone point me to a simple (is anything simple creating scenery?) way to add lights to a scenery? I'm having a problem where the default FSX hangars are showing up along with the hangars in our addon scenery. But, if I turn Scenery Complexity down to Normal, the default hangars go away. Also, when I activate a different addon version of this airport, there are no default hangars showing up, no matter what the Scenery Complexity settings. Any ideas on what is causing this, and how to fix it?

I'm trying to add an exclusion polygon with ADE to exclude a certain road. But it also ends up excluding a much larger area of roads, almost a mile away. How do I set it up to only exclude the one road I'm interested in?

Hi all, I've always been disappointed with the missing beaches on Oahu in the default FSX scenery. I tried last night to add Waikiki beach on Oahu, following the instructions here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=FSX_KML I traced over Waikiki beach in Google Earth, named it "Waikiki Beach" and then saved my polygon as a .kml file. I installed FSX_KML, FWTools, and I have the SDK installed. After opening FSX_KML, I had trouble pointing to my FSX and SDK folders, I got an error message every time I tried to select "choose folder". Hello! I tried searching but didn't find an answer. Doeas anyone knows how halo.bmp works? I mean, there are four shining lights in the bitmap and i would like to know each one what affect what (runways, beacon, strobe...)
