I signed up.  I think I got a pretty good chance since my system specs are mid level and 95% of the time I just want to do a Free Flight which they are looking for.

Of coarse my luck works in mysterious ways and I am usually not lucky when it comes to these sort of opportunities.  I am a very lucky person just not when it comes to winning in Vegas or selection lotteries like this or even the real lottery itself.  We shall see!

It is not a super big deal since its 6 weeks or so out anyway.  The way time is going lately Nov 19th will likely pass me right by before I notice.

Not true. This isn't based on preorders or what version of 2020 you had. Anyone can join.

It's the dxdiag report mandatory? I tried signing up from my phone, but I had no way to submit this.

Why, is a Steam users not allowed to use MS Store content? It's not a pre-order access thing.

I'll try again as soon as I get home. Looks like no one but me uses a 5700X3D for MSFS, and that won't be reported from my phone.

You and @Krakin were right, sorry.

The MS store does not "see" the marketplace on a steam edition of MSFS. And vice versa. For this reason if you buy an Xbox console and have MSFS already on a PC Steam version, you can't run MSFS on the console without buying it again. And you can't run Steam 2024 if your 2020 version is MS store or vice versa without buying all the marketplace stuff again.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

That is true, non of this applies to the tech alpha though.

This doesn't apply to the tech alpha though, since the marketplace won't be available.

Anyone with a Windows PC and Windows/MS Store (and I guess with PC Xbox user account/app), despite you own or not MSFS 2020, or you own it in Store or Steam, not needed neither to be a pre-sale MSFS 2024 purchaser.

"Because the focus of this technical alpha is services, it will also be limited to the Windows PC (Windows Store) platform."

"Anyone may sign-up to participate in the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 technical alpha, but limited space is available and not all who sign-up may be selected to participate. Windows PC users, please review the PC System Requirements before signing-up to participate. As part of the sign-up process you will be asked to provide your PC specs (DxDiag). If your PC does not meet the minimum requirements, you may be not be selected to participate. You do not need to pre-order Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to sign-up or participate in the technical alpha."

Invites start going out in the next hour:

they're doing three invite waves, two today and another during the weekend, depending on space and availability.

Online multiplayer is not available.
Game modes are limited to Discovery, Career, Challenges, and Free Flight.
Career mode is limited to initial missions and the Flightseeing specialization.
Challenges mode is limited to one option at a time.
The Marketplace and Activities (tutorials, training, etc.) are not available.
Aircraft are limited to a few options.
The aircraft configurator is not available.

We are also aware of the below known issues:

You may encounter obvious crashes, bugs, and issues.
Loading times may be significantly longer than expected, in particular on initial boot. While a progress bar is sometimes not shown, the sim will continue to load—please be patient.
When completing different activities in succession (for example, completing a Challenge, then launching a Free Flight), you may lose controller input.
Workaround: Restart the sim.
Peripheral default mappings are missing (in most cases). Gamepad and mouse/keyboard will function by default. Most other peripherals must be mapped using custom settings.
