no traffic observed between you and your destination ...

Featured Replies

no traffic observed between you and your destination, that's what the Tower often reported over the radio on my real world general aviation flights with flight following on. unfortunately, the same is true in my x-plane 12 flights, like at KORS or KFHR. not a single AI airplane observed, although I have a mix of 10 default AI aircraft selected.

at KPDX there was AI traffic and shown here in LittleNavMap, but those wouldn't take off, they just sat at the departure end of rwy 16L doing nothing.  Ground instructed them to contact the Tower for their takeoff clearance, but that was it. 4 aircraft sitting there idling ad infinitum. at least I saw a few coming in for a landing. anybody has an idea what's wrong here?

since this forum doesn't like it when I criticize x-plane: here for your comfort a pretty view of 12.0 beta 5 with Seattle in haze, after I finally took off in front of 3 other aircraft still waiting motionless in front of me. yes at times x-plane can look better than that ominous other simulator. 😀

From your screenshot, the first plane turning onto the active runway got stuck. The runway was blocked by that, so nobody was allowed to cross (quite unfortunate when it must be crossed to get to any parking), not to mention the other aircraft stuck in queue.

If this happens again, open XP's map and drag the offending aircraft out of the way or give it a few hundred feet of altitude to get things going again.

As far as I know, X-Plane generates AI mostly around airports. Some depart and exit the airport bubble, others come in to land from a random direction, while others only cross the area at altitude. Not sure if X-Plane does this when you simply cross or skim an airport's airspace at altitude.

Funnily enough, I've never tried to follow an AI aircraft so far to check if they actually just despawn or can be followed all the way to their destination.

thanks Bjoern, I will try your suggestion.

"If this happens again, open XP's map and drag the offending aircraft out of the way"

that's really cumbersome and especially in VR totally destroys the immersion. can this be assigned to a button or keypress?

any idea why the smaller airports like KFHR and KORS for example, don't show any traffic at all? do we have to add taxi routes ourselves manually? I hope not.

There is a bug with AI and ATC currently. Bug report was filed b4 and acknowledged. If you listen to the tower you will hear what it is, I think it's due to them trying to let planes take off from anywhere on runway if length allows. By the way to clear the jam. Simply open xplane map, select  offending plane and change its altitude.

not in this case. not a single take off clearance despite plenty runway length. and why no traffic at all at KFHR or KORS?

I guess youll have to open up WED and find out for yourself. There was an issue with planes not spawning at some airports, was supposedly fixed if the airport had parking spots the correct size and AI not spawning than file a bug report, We cant do all the work .

PS if there is no clearance its possible the runway was locked and no planes will be cleared untill its unlocked.

nor can I do all the work for x-plane , since I am a customer, not a developer and have no intentions to become one.

anyway  ...

went to KPDX this time and everything AI wise seems ok, except this: while there was radio silence, no ATC transmissions, when I reported "ready for departure" I got this.

spacer.png

totally unrealistic, has never happened to me in real life and it was their fault. ATC probably started to talk after I had already started my transmission. in real life ATC would instead say

"say again, you were stepped on" or some such. no intentions to go through flight plan filing and all that once more only to be told again

"you have violated ATC's instructions bla bla bla ..." 😁

I was so looking forward to a nice weekend x-plane 12b5 flight, but this is just no fun.

@turbomax than stop using betas. Laminat cannot fix problems that are not reported. Pointless coming here and ranting about issues than being unwilling to participate.

And just a note, most bugs are reported by those who are not paid by laminar, they do it because they want to see it done. I have spent hrs watching ai at airports so i can provide reasonable accurate bug reports. If you are nit willing, dont use betas.

the usual reply to critical observations in the x-plane forum, thanks master. I apologise for reporting my findings here without your prior permission.

I have no idea if those are caused by beta, or my user error, incompatibilities, addon scenery or what not. if you can not deal with critical user reports about your favorite game, then simply ignore my posts.

Ho hum...

For those who care, Seems there is a bug in the way AI are routed to runway. The routes used to end at the runway hold, Once the plane was cleared to position and hold, the taxi route was extended, what is happening now, is the taxi routes all extend to the runway take off hold point, so as far as ATC is concerned the runway is always locked and nothing can take off or land, unless you only have one AI plane,

@turbomax If you think a simulator will give you the same feeling as real life, I feel sorry for you.

@turbomax:

You know what? Something isn't working properly in my car and I'm really really furious about it. I've told all my friends about it, too. They asked me if I had called my garage to make an appointment to fix it. Hell no, it's not my job to tell them, they just have to fix it. "But how are they supposed to know about the fault if you don't tell them?" I was asked. "I don't care, it's not my job ... blah blah." The main thing is that I can feel "good" about being artificially upset.

If you like the "glorified scenery simulator" better, feel free to use it. Because we all know it is bug free and additionally has the best default avionics of any (civil?) flight sim.

@turbomax,

Unfortunately in XP12 I don't even have such a thing as FSHUD, and yes I can have traffic injection, but I find FSLTL would be great to have here too... Simple to setup and effective...  World Traffic 3, which I purchased, isn't anywhere near FSHUD + FSLTL...

Regarding ATC at least for those with money to invest in such a solution, SayIntentions is available for XP12 too, and THAT! can make a difference.

Yes, I am aware of AutoATC, and look forward for the commercial version. I know Mr sparks does really nice addons and my hope is that AutoATC will change this course towards a better ATC / AI Traffic environment for XP...

Yeah, that kind of reply will get people flocking to help you.  Absolutely.

If you need help with something, simply ask for it in a courteous and respectful manner.  You'll get courtesy and respect in return.  Not a difficult concept to grasp.
