August 16, 20232 yr Moderator I saw this on my YouTube feed a few moments ago and wanted to ask what y'all think of the plans to resume building the 727 after updating the avionics and installing new generation of engines... August 16, 20232 yr Umm. Not seeing any articles backing up this claim using my google-fu. Is this video reliable? August 17, 20232 yr Sounds cool, but this is likely nonsense. The author doesn't list any sources. Sadly, it's probably just more clickbait for the Youtube channel like so many videos nowadays. It wouldn't make any sense to remake the 727 as you could just take the MD-90 and slap new engines on it. This would be much more fuel efficient than a 3-engine 727. I suspect that it is a phony report, largely based on the really blatant use of fuzzy video clips throughout. This is the primary reason I posted this so I could get other's feedback on the veracity of this "report." Fr. August 18, 20232 yr Bring back the Convair CV-240/340/440. If we are going to dream, why not dream of aircraft powered by engines that suck, squeeze, bang, and blow? August 18, 20232 yr The guy posting these YT videos has a history of sensationalizing various aspects of the aviation industry and as others have pointed out, not much to report from true, validated aviation sources that this is being considered. Another series of what/if scenarios. I am surprised he did not call it a 727 NEO! 😉 Seriously, I doubt in the current times, whether this type of re-engineering effort would be financially viable for airlines.
