I must be missing something here...lol. I wanna keep this card but I don't know if I want to go to all that trouble. What are your specs: and what drivers are you using. I also have a twin monitor set up my spec: Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLi MB/ AMD Athlon 64 939 4800+ Processor/EVGA 7800 GTX/512MB of GDDR3/4 GIG OCZ High Performance DDR Memory/Zalman Reserator 1 water cooler/ 2 WD Raptor 10,000 rpm Drives in Raid O Mode/120 gig Maxtor back up drive/OCZ 520 Watt PS/ Sony DVD RD/RW/Sony CD RD/RW/ Thermaltake Tower/ Audigy 2 ZS Sound system/ Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound/ Linksys Router/ Logitech Wireless 2.4 Freedom stick/ MS Wireless Keyboard......I am in the process of shipping this card back today once I contact Tiger Direct. But I really don't want to do this. I am also thinking of switching to the ATI top card as in some of the threads I have read that they aren't having these texture problems. I hate to do this....Mike

Hi Mike,I posted my specs earlier but here they are again. I was wondering what drivers you are using to get it to work. As much as I regret doing this I am in the process of shipping this card back. I can't afford to take a chance on Nvidia not coming out with a fix. I can always re-order the card if they do. But while I can still return it for a full refund I want to do it now...Mike

Mike,I agree you shouldn't have to disable stuff, but this exercise is to solve or at least identify the problem -- it is not about what you should and shouldn't have to do. Unfortunately the bleeding edge has always been this way and for my $1600 investment it was worth making the effort. There are plenty of folks out there that have a working 7800GTX 512MB cards single and dual (such as myself) using 81.95 drivers. nVidia will not fix anything (especially of a 3 year old game) that already has a potential solution and that doesn't seem to affect the majority of their customers -- that's just business don't take it personally.George and you have all kinds of variants that could be impacting your results with the 7800GTX 512. The road to identification is remove ALL the variants first, then proceed to add them back one by one. This can be a time consuming process and still may not produce any real "workable" solution so I can understand your frustration and do understand your point of view. My issues were not as bad as yours or George's, but I can tell you the effort I put into making the SLI 7800GTX 512MB work in FS9.1 was well worth it, the amount of detail and smooth frame rates at 1920 x 1200 are jaw dropping good.Rob.

I have a $600 video card that does not work correctly in my main app. The problem is directly related to having an 80 vs 70 series driver installed. How is this not Nvidia's problem? I can't explain why your card works but based on what I've seen at other forums like NZone, Nvnews, Driver Heaven and so forth you are in the minority by *not* having the issue.I don't buy the "they won't fix 3 year old games" idea either. FS2004 is still one of the top selling PC entertainment titles, has sold millions of copies in those three years, and Nvidia has to know there is a segment of their market running it on their high end cards. This is the single worst issue I've seen reported with a specific game under these current drivers. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If in fact they have chosen to ignore this in the new version coming out this weekend (and I know they've known about my posts for over a month now from the moderator at Driver Heaven) I'm going to take my money elsewhere and support their competitor - simple as that. The X1800XT has no issues with FS, doesn't require driver switching to play other newer games, and sees a regular driver release each month with fixes for bug reports that come from the community.

>You may be interested in the reply I received from nVidia:>>Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.>>We recomend that you download the driver version 78.01 from>our website which is compatible with your video card.>>For further information, please visit the following link :>>http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_78.01.html>Well I tried to install 78.01 and guess what? It couldn't find any compatible hardware :( George

Hey guys I am not here to fight with ya. If I could have found a fix for this I would have done it. I hate like chet having to return this the card. But I also don't want to take a chance in them not finding a fix.To the ones who got it to work ...I am happy for you. But for me I am throwing the towel in while I still can. We might be able to update to this one but what about the next set of drivers and the next and so on. I am not willing to take a 750.00 hit for a video card that drove me nuts for three weeks...lol. I feel when you buy a product if it be software or hardware you shouldn't have to disconnect, shut down or remove anything from your computer. Nvidia is suppose to test these drivers out. Since the 80 series came out we all have been fussin....tell me what Nvidia has changes for FS9.Monday morning this card is out of here. I will wait this time until I do all my home work and invest this large amount of money. Nvidia got me on this one....there won't be a second time..Mike:-mad

Hi,I'm with you, this is the last Nvidia card I purchase!!!. Never was a fan of ATI, but I will buy ATI from now on!!!!!.

Fortunately I have been able to find a work-around but it's not very convenient. When I first power up the machine and start FS9, the ground textures are displayed randomly. Now, to correct this I need to power down, switch the monitor to the second socket on the graphics card and power on. Unfortunately this is not the end of the story as the textures are still wrong. Now, power down again and switch the monitor back to the original socket. This time when I power on and run FS9, the textures display correctly. I can then close down FS9 and re-open it and it still works correctly. So every morning I need to go through this procedure.(This procedure works every time)When it is working (after the second power down/power up, the results are fantastic. Flying at 5000ft, 250kts over customed autogenned photographic scenery I get an average of 100 fps with absolutely no blurring.I suppose it is a small price to pay but it is very inconvenient as I need to pull the case out from under the desk to switch sockets.George

Well lets hope that the new driver FW 81.98 will fix the issues at hand>>>>read here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=163381 if they don't that should be a good message as to what is forth coming from Nvidia.

Hey folks,I'm not trying to ruffle feathers, I really am trying to help -- I have no loyalty to any video card company nor CPU nor motherboard. But a lot of what Mike, Ryan, George have described doesn't make a lot of sense. Also, people have said the 70's series drivers work but others say they don't -- so which is it?Someone tried both nVidia 7800GTX 512MB and the ATI X1800XT 512MB and had similiar problems -- the odds of one person having two faulty video cards is pretty slim. All hardware is tested before it leaves the factory so lets assume this is not a hardware problem and seeing as your hardware works in other games it appears to be specific to FS9.1 -- is this an accurate statement? And to whomever asked for quality assurance on drivers, you ask for the impossible -- how can a company test their drivers on new hardware that is being released daily and somehow also ensure their drivers work with ALL the hardware? It is physically and logically impossible to do so whether your ATI, nVidia or anyone. The combinations of hardware alone is mind boggling, no company can do that but the do the best they can. There are so many variations to the theme and since none of you have actually posted a laundry list of what you've done or not done to try to resolve your issues -- all I hear is "this should just work" -- great and I agree, but that isn't gonna help you or others. It's like flying into a storm, some of you deal with it buy turning around, some of you ride thru it, some of you change course, some of you change altitude. In the case of my A8N-SLI there is are several motherboard power connectors - 3 total on the motherboard + 2 PCI-E power feeds - one for each video card. Have you tried using VGA connection -- via the provided dongle that comes with the card?George, just curious, why do you want 100fps when your LCD can't keep up with that many frames per second? George has a solution, but I personally wouldn't tolerate it and would keep searching for a more "user friendly" option.Anyway, I just hate to see you guys give up and miss out on a visual experience that can't be reproduce in ATI land either.Rob.

Rob,All I know is that I can immediately and completely solve this issue by reverting to a 70 series driver. The only thing that is changing in my system between having the problem and not having it is the presence of an 80 series driver. I see no possible way this could be another part of my system causing the issue. I just recently reformatted my machine and the problem appeared on a clean Windows XP with NOTHING except drivers and FS installed. Again, as soon as I went back to the 70 series, the problem was gone.I've been building gaming PCs for a good 6 or 7 years now (I had the original 3D cards like the 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics and the Nvidia Riva 128) - I'm pretty sure I know a driver problem when I see one.Perhaps there's some sort of minor hardware difference in some of these cards that causes them to not have the issue? Is there anyone that has my specific card, made by XFX, that is not having this problem in FS?On drivers, I don't think it's much to ask for them to work with Microsoft's best selling and longest running title. I don't think FS is an obscure game that doesn't warrant testing. Many review sites use it in their video card benchmarks and in fact HardOCP recently saw these same errors reviewing a couple 7800 equipped systems. "WHQL" certification on a driver is supposed to mean that MS has signed off on it too - how is it they don't test with their own big games? We'll see what these new drivers tonight or tomorrow have to say about the issue, I'm hoping for a fix but I won't be surprised if it isn't there.

Rob,I agree with Ryan. Read the nVIDIA release notes for version 81.95. Goto section 'Open Issues in Version 81.95' and to subsection 'NVIDA Issues-Single GPU' and have a look on the 5:th item in the list of issues with the GeForce 7 series.'GeForce 7 Series: Ground textures in Flight Simulator 2004 do not render correctly when using 'Ultra High' settings.'I'm running a single 7800GTX card with the 77.77 drivers. No problems. I get texture problems with the 81.95 drivers. I'm sure this is a driver issue and I'll wait for a release that work ok with FS9 and the 7800GTX.Ulf B

They must have added that note in the second little interim release of the 81.95 that happened, I hadn't checked the notes for it.Fingers crossed for a fix now with the 81.98's that should be out any minute.

I just tried out the 81.95's again thinking that maybe lowering things below "Ultra High" would fix it for the time being but the problem persists even with everything set to the lowest possible settings - it's not related to setting "Ultra High"...
