Everytime I tried I get a pop up message that states " Hardware doesn't support these drivers". I have since brought another card and installed the older drivers. The 6800GT installed the drivers fine...lol. I still have the 7800/512 sitting in the box waiting till tommorrow to ship it back. But if I could get it to work I keep it.....Mike
December 18, 200520 yr Hi Mike,You need to open the exe (78.01_winxp2k_english_whql.exe) with Winzip then modify the nv4_disp.inf to include your card id. I am just about to try it and will let you know how it goes.George

Installing the 81.95 drivers also without any problem.Reverted back to 77.77 by using XP restore point. No problems. The single 7800GTX 256MB card should be recognised by the installer.Ulf B
December 18, 200520 yr George if you can get it to install let me know what you did or give me a link through my email address.....I wanna keep this card/ but I also want it to work to...Mike
December 18, 200520 yr Right Mike, I got the 78.01 drivers to install but I couldn't get the cards to run at the default settings of Memory 1.73GHz and GPU 580MHz. It would only let me set Memory 1.2GHz GPU 275GHz.However, FS9 runs in both windowed and full-screen mode. In windowed mode with my test flight I am getting 130fps and in full-screen 60fps which is my monitors default. So, it's looking good.I'll send you my nv4_disp.inf.George
December 18, 200520 yr George,The default setting on a nVidia reference card and the 81.95 drivers is 550Mhz GPU and 1.7Ghz memory -- where are you getting the 580Mhz and 1.73Ghz from - that's definitely NOT the default? The "MS Flight Simulator 2004" settings provided by nVidia in their performance profile work flawlessly for me in 81.95 drivers. These settings are (these are CHECKED settings as UNCHECKED settings are ignored). The Standard nVidia FS9 Profile:AA = 4XAF = Application ControlledImage = High QualityVertical Sync = Application ControlledForce MipMaps = TrilinearHardware Acceleration = Single Display ModeTrilinear Optimization = OFFAnisotropic Mip Filter Optimization = OFFAnisotropic Sample Optimization = OFFTriple Buffering = ONSLI Rendering Mode = PreDefined (read only)Negative LOD BIAS = ClampMy SLI Performance profile is:AA = SLI16XAF = 16XImage = High QualityVertical Sync = Application ControlledForce MipMaps = TrilinearHardware Acceleration = Single Display ModeTrilinear Optimization = OFFAnisotropic Mip Filter Optimization = OFFAnisotropic Sample Optimization = OFFTransparency AA = OFFTriple Buffering = ONSLI Rendering Mode = SLI AntialiasingNegative LOD BIAS = ClampIn both performance profiles the following are set:nVidia: "Enable SLI multi-GPU" = checked "Show GPU Loading Balancing" = uncheckedIn FS9.1 Settings | Display | Hardware Render to Texture = "Checked" Transform and lighting = "Checked" Anti-Aliasing = "unChecked" Filtering = "Trilinear" MIP Map Quality = 4 Hardware Rendered Lights = 6 Global Max Texture Size = HighI'm using an eVGA 7800GTX 512MB and an MSI 7800GTX 512MB. Using 81.95 and the standard MS F2004 nVidia performance profile I have NO issues at all with FS9.1. Using my tweaked SLI performance profile the only issue I have is with the aircraft not being displayed in the "Create a Flight" screen. If nVidia are suggesting Image = High Quality is the problem, then they clearly do NOT have a grasp on the issue at all. Changing image quality on my system also has no affect in FS2004.Just curious, is anyone running the same motherboard as I have A8N-SLI Deluxe (not the A8N32-SLI) and having the texture problem?I've been building PC since about 1980, and coding software for them since about 1982 -- there is NEVER anything that I assume anymore. For all the hardware I've used over the past 25 years, every single new revision has been a learning experience for me (for better or worse).Rob.
December 18, 200520 yr Rob,>The default setting on a nVidia reference card and the 81.95>drivers is 550Mhz GPU and 1.7Ghz memory -- where are you>getting the 580Mhz and 1.73Ghz from - that's definitely NOT>the default? Yes it is for the XFX 7800 GTX 512Mb DDR3 XXX Edition which is overclocked by default, see:http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/listCo...035#PV-T70F-YDFHowever, with the 78.01 drivers I could not get more than 1.2GHz memory and 275GHz GPU otherwise it failed the test. With the 91.85 drivers the higher rates were the defaults and it ran quite happily.>My SLI Performance profile is:>AA = SLI16X>AF = 16X>Image = High Quality>Vertical Sync = Application Controlled>Force MipMaps = Trilinear>Hardware Acceleration = Single Display Mode>Trilinear Optimization = OFF>Anisotropic Mip Filter Optimization = OFF>Anisotropic Sample Optimization = OFF>Transparency AA = OFF>Triple Buffering = ON>SLI Rendering Mode = SLI Antialiasing>Negative LOD BIAS = ClampHow do you get to SLI Rendering Mode = SLI Antialiasing ?>Just curious, is anyone running the same motherboard as I have>A8N-SLI Deluxe (not the A8N32-SLI) and having the texture>problem?Yes, mine is the latest Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (AMD version) which doesn't have the "flip card" to set SLI. Both PCIE slots work at x16 in SLI mode rather than the earlier version which reduced them to x8.The only way I could get the 81.95 drivers to work in FS9 was to power-down, switch the monitor to the other DVI socket and power up (twice). Even then, FS9 would not run in full-screen mode.I have now installed the 78.01 drivers by modifying the nv4_disp.inf to include my card and, apart from the clock rates, FS9 now runs in both windowed and full-screen mode.> there is NEVER anything that I assume anymore.I totally agree.George
December 18, 200520 yr George,Ahh, now I think we're getting somewhere. Did you install the drivers that came with your XFX or did you go with the 81.95 drivers from nVidia's web site when you first installed the card? The nVidia reference drivers should default to 550 and 1.7.Here is nVidia's link on how to install SLI performance profiles:http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_sliAA_howto2You need to:1. Install Coolbits (think you've done this already)2. Load the "Global driver setting" (this is critical to be able to access all the SLI features)3. Make sure View = "Advanced settings"4. Proceed to select the options I listed above5. Click on Add Profile and save your profile (i.e. "MS FS2004 SLI")Here are two more links on how to setup SLI profiles and modify existing SLI provides:http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_appprofile_howto1.htmlhttp://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_appprofile_howto2.htmlPlease read thru those links as it provides very clear and detailed information on how to enable SLI and set it up correctly for a Performance Profile. I must admit the process of setting up SLI and being able to select the correct SLI mode for once's game/sim is definitely worky -- this is where I hope nVidia improve their Performance Profile interface to the user for their next driver version. Please get back to us if this does or doesn't solve your issue.Rob.
December 18, 200520 yr Hey George that did the trick. How you figured what all the rest of us couldn't is beyond me. I installed the card and dropped in that file you emailed me and she took off with no problems. I could care less about the over clocking. Download Riva Turner or NVTray if ya wanna force a overclock of the card...lol. I am happy now....Thanks again...Mike
December 18, 200520 yr I would love to post that file at the Nvidia site so the other FS9 folks can fly....I hope Nvidia comes out with a driver that works with the 80 series for us but this will do fine for the time being
December 18, 200520 yr Mike,They do have a 81.95 driver that works and you really don't want to be on a 70' series driver unless that is your ONLY option to making it work -- the 70's series drivers have issues with other games and will probably have even more issues with future games. If FS9 is all you care about, then this is a viable solution for you but maybe not for others. But I agree that nVidia should post this potential work around in their knowledge base where they tell FS9 users to run 78.xx drivers. Changing an .inf is a common trick used to fool a device driver install and is actually indicative of sloppy coding. nVidia should not be relying on .inf values to determine hardware driver compatibility, they should be interrogating the GPU BIOS directly. However, this sloppy approach has provided a potential back door that has helped solve your (and other's) immediate problem. But still, you don't want to be living in 70's series drivers for the next year or two.Rob.
December 18, 200520 yr Well Rob the way I look at it we have tried everything else. I have been following this thread and others on a daily base. There are only one or two that have got the 80 series drivers on the 7800/512/GTX. You being one of them.I think a lot of people are getting the 512 mixed up 256. There are plenty of 7800 series cards out there. The 7800/512GTX is the one we are having trouble with. I have even seen others trying to fix the issue at hand and they don't even have the #### card....how can they have any idea what we are talking about...lol. I am tired of fighting this. FS9 is the only game I use on this computer. Nvidia might and then might not come out with a fix for this. But if they MS is going to come out with FS2006 someone needs to get on the stick here. I don't think there will be a 2006...so far there has been no talk of this so far other than rumors. If MS was even thinking about this they would have giving out some kind of a trailer for it. 2004 came out way before last year.
December 18, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Couple things:1. The entry in the 81.95 readme refers to FS's "Ultra High" settings in Display, not to High Quality mode in the drivers...2. Rob, you're using 512MB cards correct? Mine is a 256MB - perhaps this is where there's a small difference that's allowing yours to work. Does anyone here have an 80 series working on a 256MB 7800GTX?Still waiting for those new drivers to go up... December 18, 200520 yr Correct I have two 512MB cards (one MSI and one eVGA).I'll have to check what you mean exactly by "Ultra High" in FS9, but I did mis-read it also and was thinking High Quality setting in nVidia drivers property page -- thanks for the correction. Are you using 1 or 2 256MB cards? If you're using 2 cards (SLI) I assume you've read those three links I posted earlier for George? If you're running SLI and have it setup correctly per nVidia, you should be able to choose SLI render mode options and as far as I understand it "SLI Antialiasing" is the ONLY option that works with FS9.If you aren't able to select SLI render mode options (i.e. stuck at "Predefined (Read only)"), then you don't have your SLI profile setup correctly.Rob.
December 18, 200520 yr Hi Tabs....while I was waiting for a fix for the 7800/512GTX I ordered a 6800GTX and downloaded the 81.95 drivers and other 80 series driver. I still had texture problems but not as bad. Here are my specs.> Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLi MB/ AMD Athlon 64 939 4800+ Processor/EVGA 7800 GTX/512MB of GDDR3/4 GIG OCZ High Performance DDR Memory/Zalman Reserator 1 water cooler/ 2 WD Raptor 10,000 rpm Drives in Raid O Mode/120 gig Maxtor back up drive/OCZ 520 Watt PS.....I hope the new 81.98 drivers that are about to be released any day now will have a fix....but at least if they don't I can still fly....Mike
