SIMstarter

Support and Discussion for SIMstarter - Configuration Tool für FSX and P3Dv2.

  1. Started by Dirk98,

I'm running v2.6.0.3 with FSX-SE standalone installation. To some reason every time I launch FSX through SIMStarter there is another [Trusted] section that gets added to the existing one in fsx.cfg. They are exactly the same. I delete the extra ones but after the next launch with SIMStarter I get 1 extra [Trusted] sections again. On the third consequitive launch with SIMStarter another 1 is added, etc. What can be wrong on my side? Thanks, Dirk.

Hi, a week ego i bought the iFly B747-400. Installation with no problems. Everything works well by starting P3D with the default Prepar3D.exe file. Buth, by starting from out SIMstarter i had no dispays in the cockpit, no PFD, ND, EICAS, no illumination in the buttons. After some seartchinh i found that the "2-D panel transparency" setting was the cause, after setting from 100% to 0% in the simsettings everething was ok. The problem now is that if i set the value to 0 in the profile configuration / Graphics in SIMstarter, the value always changes to 100% and i have to change it manually in the sim to geth the screens and buttons at work. for all clearnes, w…

Hello, Peter, Günter et al. Being a (very happy) user of your tool would like to make a suggestion that could enhance the simstarter even more. One of the things I like the most is the ability to define different "sceneries" and "configurations" depending the type of flight you are going to perform, letting you save precious resources you need to keep good experience. For example, I have profiles to fly while day and another while night. No need to cast shadows at night.... Or I do not need to enable my massive Charles de Gaulle if I am flying to Orly, but even in this situation, there are several regions in FSX where the "density" of airports makes flying those re…

Hi, I'm using Ezdok cameras within P3D 2.5, to my satisfaction. When I use Simstarter to launch P3D, Ezdok comes to a halt and doesn't start within P3D. Is this a known issue? I would love to keep using Simstarter! KR, Theo The Netherlands

  6. Hallo Cpt Pero, I'm new to SimStarter and and just trying to get the best out for my purposes. One thing I stumpled across is loading a saved flight (inflight-situation with pmdg b738) which bring's me up in the air, but missing the Panel-state. loading the same situation manually is ok. So what I'm doing wrong? Other than that is ok and I love the "lazy handling" once the profiles are done. Thankyou for this nice tool and kind regards, Wolfgang

Hi I cant get my head around this and need some help so I can rule out Simstarter and continue to isolate the problem. Recently I had a scenery error when starting up FSX " Add on scenery/scenery in scenery area 131 not found" No Problem I go to my Scenery, cfg and change area 131 from True to " False" and that scenery is now disabled. Now if I continue to use FSX only then that error is gone HOWEVER if I change the profile and start the sim using SIM starter then the error comes straight back ! Any help to solve this very annoying problem? Is it anything to do with Simstarter?

  8. Hi Captain Pero, Is it possible to assign different hardware control settings for different profiles? ie; one profile for two engined jets and a different profile for single engine GA. Each would have different assignments for axes and buttons. Many thanks John

  9. Hello Capt. Pero and many thanks for the kindness of permitting us to try out a fully functional version of this product. I am writing because I have so far been unable to start FSX via the "Jumpstart" tab. Following the instructions in your tutorial Youtube video,as well as the printed manual, I was able to create nine scenery sets, by un-checking the relevant boxes to disable all scenery products not geographically close to the area of my intended flights. Having created those scenery sets I clicked on the "Jumpstart" button to try and access one of my saved FSX flights, but the Jumpstart menu page would only permit me to select the scenery sets to be use…

  10. Hello Pero, first of all thanks for your fantastic tool !!! Unfortunately I need to report a problem with your latest SimStarter version, v2.6 build 2: I am on P3D v2.5, ASN for P3D SP2 build 5532, Windows 8.1. When switching to the ASN page within the Profile Settings I get an unhandled execption error message: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "03/17/2015 13:23:53" to type 'Date' is not valid. at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDate(String Value) a…

  11. Greetings, I am now enjoying your excellent program. I have an issue with the scenery file(s). I noticed there was a difference between the actual scenery.cfg file entries and the entries in the SIMStarter Scenery Manager. An explanation follows. I use Scenery Config Editor to edit my scenery. I have the program set to use the NewScenery convention. Here's the text from Andrew Thorton's manual: The “Follow the NewScenery convention” option should almost always be set. In this convention when you open the default scenery file, it will be saved as NewScenery.cfg. This helps Flight Simulator notice there is a change in scenery.cfg. You want this to happen. Just b…

  12. How do I select only the ones that I have an item in the scenery.cfg? Its searching megascnery and picking all the airports in that scenery... or Orbx area and picking all the airports in em.. I created a new scenery set where I deselected all the base scenery like Megascnery (photo scenery) and Orbix LC and areas etc... and only selected actual addon ai8ports I have. But when I go to build the google earth thingi, its starting to build over 25,000 airports.

  13. Many of you are using the very powerful "SceneryConfigEditor" (LINK) to manage scenery.cfg. This how-to will show how to use them together with SIMstarter. Logic: We will have different source files "Germany_Scenery.cfg", "VFRscenery.cfg" and would like to use them with the right SIMstarter profile. Naming convention does not matter for the source file name. They must end with ".cfg". STEP 1: Open SIMstarter > Profile configuration > ScenerySet > Select "Use external scenery.cfg" STEP 2: Choose a source file. Filename not needed to be named "scenery.cfg" STEP 3: This profile is using this source file now and copy it to %ProgramData%\Microsoft\FSX\sc…

  14. Started by Capt. PERO,

Since version 2.6 of SIMstarter we are compatible with FSX-SE. You can run either FSX or FSX-SE with SIMstarter at the same time, because SIMstarter is using the same SIMstarter profile files for FSX and FSX-SE. Therefore we need to switch SIMstarter FSX into FSX-SE mode: Step 1: Go to "Program settings" > "FSX" and make sure that "FSX Mode" is selected. There will be no FSX-SE mode: Step 2: Click "Use FSX-SE instead of FSX". A pop up will ask you if you are willing to overwrite your existing profiles. This can be accepted if your are running FSX-SE only. If you are running FSX and FSX-SE in parallel to need to decide to use FSX or FSX-SE in one instance of S…

  15. I would like to explain, how to use Active Sky Next (my favorite weather AddOn) running with SIMstarter. Since version 2.6 of SIMstarter you can do configuration changes to ASN depending on a SIMstarter profile. Example: If you run an heavy metal plane environment you may should reduce your cloud settings. Example: If you run Night Environment X (from Chris Bell) you could lower your cloud settings as well to get more performance for the beautiful lights. Step 1: Set the path to ASNext.exe (should be found automaticly): Step 2: Define that Active Sky Next should be automaticly started by SIMstarter. This is an important option because ASN need to be started af…

At this weekend I have finished the development of the most features / bugfixes for the new version 2.6 of SIMstarter. Version 2.6 will bring: Active Sky Next Support (create ASN profiles) Improvement auf SceneryManager Improvement of LiveryManager FTX Central Reminder works for FSX too Some bugfixes I am very happy about the Active Sky Next configuration part, because its important to set your weather visibility, cloud layers and stuff depending on the using profile. ;O) New version will be available in january 2015 - we are just beta testing...

After several days of developing I would like to proudly present Version 2.5. Main changes: The new StartManager makes it possible to create so-called RunSets which can assign to multiple SIMstarter profiles. You can define programs task-priority and the window mode. In addition its possible to modify existing RunSets which makes handling much easier JumpStart has the feature to select your starting position prior starting the simulator (looks pretty the same that in-game). For users who like JumpStart more than the normal view its possible to define "Jumpstart" as new starting screen FTX Global Regions can be switched before starting a profile (just set the p…

  18. Recently I had modified my fsx.cfg by removing the SimObjectPath to my traffice addon Traffic X. Firstly, I removed it within SIMstarter, but each time I restarted FSX this path reappeared again! So, I modified fsx.cfg directly and re-read it by SIMstarter. Everything looked fine and each profile within SIMstarter has this particular entry removed. But whenever I start FSX through SIMstarter (either through a profile or through jumpstart, the Traffic X path entry reappears. I have no idea where SIMstarter gets this info from. And I couldn't find a way to really remove it or at least deactivate it! Do you have any idea what's wrong here?

Greetings, Thanks for the excellent program. I have a couple of questions and a suggestion: -there is an option to run more than 1 instance of SIMstarter. Does that effectively double the number of available profiles? -I would like to backup my profiles and program settings. Which files and folders need to be backed up so I can restore the state of the program? -I do have a suggestion. You very thoughtfully added an option to run FTX Central before beginning to load P3D, in order to change regions/global. Would you consider adding an option to also run the Vector configurator? If I am flying from one metropolitan area to another, there are certain items I may…

Hi, I've encountered an error in the above build. Screenshot below. It was caused by pressing the ASN tab. Looks like a date format issue. I'm in the UK so use dd/mm/yyyy. On a separate note I notice that if I launch FSX without using SimStarter I don't see the default splashscreen. Instead I see that last one used when I launched SimStarter - Profile1. The default bmp has been renamed to dglsplashscreen.bmp and the original is only available in the backup folder. Is it possible to not lose the default splash screen?

  23. This tool seems to be very powerful indeed! However I still have problems using it correctly. My main problem right now is the fact that SIMstarter does not use the defined fsx.cfg correctly. Each time I start FSX through SIMstarter my graphics card settings are reset to the following values: Full screen resolution 1280x720x32 Filtering: Bilinear Anti-aliasing: OFF My settings in the fsx.cfg for the corrsponding profile clearly define other values here, but they are obviuosly overwritten by SIMStarter. What am I doing wrong?

  24. I noticed that Version 2.5 of PREPAR3D will restructure the folder path of the configuration files (whatever that means). Link: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/upgrading-from-v2-1-to-v2-4/#post-97781 Until I verified – SIMstarter IS NOT COMPATIBLE TO THAT VERSION! Please wait for an update here or at my website. I will check that soon until the new version has been released!

Hi Peter, i am interested in using SimStarter. The only problem I have is that I want to use FPS_Limiter.exe (http://www.venetubo.com/fsx/FPS_Limiter_0.2.rar) to limit my FPS externaly. SimStarter does not allow to use another exe file than fsx.exe or the P3D executable. It would be nice if there would be an extra option to include this pice of software and to allow to start it with different command line options. FPS_Limiter will be startet via an batch file i.g. like this: start C:\"FSX\limiter\"FPS_Limiter.exe /r:D3D9 /f:30 /x:OFF /l:OFF "C:\FSX\fsx.exe What do you think about this? Yours, Sebastian
