This was one of the first non-beginner/training missions I ran and got a kick out of it. It was also the first time I've experienced a failure while simming (never used the option in FS9) and it's a rush! It prompted me to try the Expert mission where you're in a 737 at 35k feet and both engines fail, but wasn't on top of my game and ran out of options before ditching in the ocean. I'll have to give that another attempt tonight and pick the other (smaller) airport. But back to Catalina - anyone land somewhere other than the aircraft carrier? I initially thought of gliding to the coast, then noticed the carrier nearby and changed course. Barely made the landing, too -…

Hi everybody,I'm currently writing a mission for FSX and I'd like to add some effects in it.As far as I see, the effects are attached to a predefined attach-point in the scenery used by the mission. Thoses sceneries seems to come from the library objects of FSX.Now my question, if I want to enable some fireworks effect to launch near my mission (predefined trigger area), is there any scenery (from the library) that I could use to attach my effects or I need to create my own? Also, how do we attach custom sceneries to a mission?I tried by giving the GUID to the scenery object in the object placement tool but FS don't see the file....Thanks for you help!Have agreat day!Je…

With a lot of enthousiasm, i started to read the Mission Creation Tutorial. But, unfortunately, it goes wrong from the beginning ! :-(First of all, i have no Templates tab in de Object Placement Tool. Perhaps i do not need it, but it is a difference with the screenshots from the tutorial ...Second, when i try to create the Mission Metadata in the Objects tab (Step 2 in the tutorial), and want to add 'MissionObject' as Type and 'ScenarioMetadata' as Name and click on the Add-button, i always got this error message :YOU NEED TO BE LOOKING AT OR CLOSER TO THE GROUND !My airplane is standing on the runway, so i do not get it !!Anyone an idea what goes wrong ??

Working on my first mission. Does anyone know how to change the font size or screen position when you are using text messages for the dialog?

I have been trying to create a mission using the SDKs tutorial, and keep running into problems.first, the images for the complete and incomplete show errors when clicking on the mission.second the missions is not categorized.I have tried it several times, step-by-step using the tutorial and keep getting the same results.I'm just trying to create a simple take off and land mission, nothing special (right now)any ideas?

Having flown in and out of Dutch Harbor in a C-130 in the real world I was really looking forward to this mission and I have to say that the guys at microsoft did Dutch proud. Everything from the weather to the airport environment was right on to simulate the real deal. I have flown it twice with success but you need to stay one step ahead of the airplane or the Dutch reputation may get you ;0)fly safeDave

Hi all,I'll be honest, I've always wanted to contribute to the hobby but I didn't know where or how. I tried building planes and it just wasn't my thing(patience in learning how to model properly got the best of me). I've also tried other activities to no avail such as creating a VA and running an aerobatics group. Anyways, I've finally found something I think I can handle. I'm working on a short 1 hour mission flight through a snow storm right now and I just started tonight but things are going well. I got about 6 recordings made for it and I've started coding everything. I'm just curious if anyone else is getting anywhere with missions or if you are all out enjoyi…

Hello All,I'm pulling my hair out now, and it is probably something I missed. But I cannot seem to get the mission to show up in the missions list no matter what I try. Any suggestions? I'm thinking this is because I have installed FSX to a non-default directory? I've also updated the SDK paths as well by running ConfigSDK.exe.Here is the layout (as outlined by the tutorial)In: D:FSXMissionsMissions in ProgressCreation TutorialMissionCreationTutorial.FLTMissionCreationTutorial.htmlMissionCreationTutorial.WXMissionCreationTutorial.xmlMissionCreationTutorial_c.bmpMissionCreationTutorial_i.bmpXML Contents attached to this message orhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159525.t…

Following along with the SDK sample, we decided to try to create a new category. So, per the directions...Microsoft Flight Simulator XCategoriesBFSCategories.xml<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>AceXML DocumentBFSCategories.xmlLearn to fly in the soup, and land to live to tell about it.Instrument Flight Trainingbanner_ifr.bmpInterestingly, the Category dropdown in FSX shows only "All Categories" and does not populate with any categories. The Mission still shows up in the default list under "Beginner" missions.Anyone know how to fix this? We can't get the categories to populate at all.

I will admit I have not bought the game yet, but am planing on doing so later this week. I think the missions are a great idea and will add a lot of creativity to the game. One thing that I have noticed that is missing is the very first mission created, the oil rig rescue. What ever happened to it? It is not on the list of missions in fsinsider and I see no mention of it on the forums. If it was taken out is there a reason why and will it be added later?

I actually managed to survive the Red Bull expert mission time trial, with arrows and such, without crashing! The Extra just doesn't want to knife edge so good for me.....but I got er' done! I was just wondering what your times were on this course so I could know where I stand. This is with realism set to hard and using the VC view. Maybe we could pin a thread with all the mission titles and collect the best times in a leaderboard of some sort? I was just so happy when I landed after the mission! Took about 10 trys to get all the way through, but I can see me completing the rest of the missions now for sure! Great job FS team! Oh, and BTW, if you don't get good fr…

I am posting this here because it got sunk in the many messages that populate the root FSX forum.During multiplayer sessions I miss the access to the Map view, in order to obtain info about the local airfields, frequencies, etc...The fields required to re-position the aircraft might be blocked, but access to airfield details by clicking on it like we do in Map view would be of great help.Sometimes I find myself at airfields I didn't even know that existed... The ATC becomes difficult because I do not even know what rws ara available for a start...Just a thought for the dev team...

Hi,i just started to create a little mission about a sightseeing flight in a friends old Cessna that starts comfortly but slowly turns into a nightmare.Maybe someone can help me out with some basic questions:How can I define the duration of a dialog message to stay on screen? For my beta testers ;-) the text disappears to quickly...Can I trigger an action when the engine was started? I could not find any condition for that. How can I adjust aircraft properties? E.g. I want to set fuel to 20% right after take-off, but not as an Failure Action (that happens later ;-) Is this only possible via simconnect?Regrads,Heiko

I'm a huge supporter of the new features and capabilities of FSX and having a blast with the FP Beta. I was ask by a friend what the difference is between the new Mission feature today and the old Adventure language we had back in '98.:) Well, I don't know the answer since I don't program any more and never fooled with the adventure language. They both allow the creation of scenarios, but what is the difference? Thanks in advance.Bob...

Hi there,I've been working on a mission and it's fairly lengthy. Anyways, I have nothing to say to the player for probably about 45 minutes of the 2 hour mission. then I need to find a way to say something to the pilot. I know I could put a trigger in saying after 1 hour do this... but I can't really tell where he is in the mission at that point. I was hoping, since he's flying due south, I could put a command in that would notice when he's hit a certain lattitude to send a dialogthingy to him. Is this possible? Or could someone recommend a better approach maybe?

I just wanted to publically thank the people on the FSX team that made the missions and the mission system possible. I won't mention everyone by name, especially considering everyone on the team played critical roles in one way or another, but I do want to call out the mission designers Justin Wood and Brandon Seltz for the hard work and creative enthusiasm getting all of the missions finished. They did an awesome job!I also want to thank Mike Singer for the great scripts and Jon Seal for getting the ball rolling on scripts as well. The audio was/is critical for the missions and David Henry did a great job with the scratch audio as well as organizing and completing the re…

As a real-world student (albeit on hiatus) something I've always had an interest in are real-world "lessons" - the provided scripted lessons thus far are nice, and Machado is funny, but they've been buggy, over/under sensitive, etc.Worse, they never really "felt" like my real-world lessons, and naturally were pretty limited.I'm assuming it's only a matter of short time before we see the release of real-world-type lessons, and hopefully we'll get to see accurately built routines, including IFR, assuming the mission system allows these type of things to be built. Then, of course, we'll doubtelessly find quite a bit of bickering as to what's been built in an accurate fashion.…

I've seen some posts implying that these two can be programmatically tied. If this is so, which I hope it is, can someone elaborate? Can I get callbacks/events in my SimConnect app? If so, I can influence the mission directly based on my response to these events/callbacks?Further, if this is the case, can I essentially run a mission via SimConnect?I won't have the SDKs until Oct 17 (or thereabouts), so I am hoping someone in the know (ACES team member or knowledgable beta tester) might shed light. Thanks(I am so excited about the possibilities in the new tools).
