There are some water and hard surface landings so please bring an amphibian. 100kts will be our cruise speed. Kodiak Island is mountainous and heavily forested in the north and east, but fairly treeless in the south. The island has many deep, ice-free bays that provide sheltered anchorages for boats. The southwestern two-thirds of the island, like much of the Kodiak Archipelago, is part of Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. The Kodiak bear and the king crab are native to the island. The fishing industry is the most important economic activity on the island; fisheri…

Hokkaido. Farms, Forests, Mountains and Volcanoes For Saturday, October 14, 2023 Michael MacKuen We visit Hokkaido, the northernmost and second largest island of the Japanese archipelago. This is remote rugged country. Until the seventeenth century it was inhabited by the hunter-gatherer Ainu people. And while the Japanese government began to establish military and feudal control over the island, it was not integrated into Japan until the mid-nineteenth century. Only in the twentieth century did Hokkaido’s current cities began to evolve from their small village roots. Even now, the region is (for Japan) relatively underdeveloped with a primary emphasis on agriculture…

The Outer Banks Revisited OBX Redux For Wednesday, September 20, 2023 Michael MacKuen Today we shall revisit North Carolina’s Outer Banks. (The initials “OBX” are often used as a shorthand for the “Outer Banks”.) These low-lying barrier islands cover most of North Carolina’s coast from Virginia to South Carolina. The islands appeared when the last ice age receded and the ocean’s level rose. While the islands have done much to protect the populated coastline, their baren nature and susceptibility to the Atlantic’s storms have made them inhospitable to dense human habitation. Only in the last quarter of the twentieth century have they attracted enough tourists for the …

You are encouraged to fly Navy jets, Air Force jets, American or European jets, civilian jets, or whatever you like. We commence from Nellis AFB [KLSV]. Since the 1950s, Nellis has been the Air Force center for fighter jet training, and since the 1970s it has conducted a Fighter Weapons School to improve tactics for the changing combat environment. While we shall take our time to see a number of lighthouses, bridges, and even a “castle” ... flying will be faster than driving on an August weekend. Canyons and Grasland This is a recycled flight. Originally planned by Mike for a flight in P3D and posted here in May 2020, it was a flight over the northern Drakensberg Escarpment and the southern half of Kruger National Park. Now we want to enjoy the area's dramatic terrain and its grand bushland vistas in MSFS. I copied the relevant information from Mike’s post (please excuse the crude plagiarism) and changed some airports to adapt to the new Simulator. For detailed information please refer to Mike’s original post. Our departure airport is the former main airport of Mbombela, Nelspruit (FANS). Today, the airport is mainly used for GA traffic. More than 1…
