  1. My suggestion would be to start with a good base, so to remedy your list a bit: FreeMeshX (better MESH) - YES ORBX FTX Global (better textures) - YES + Ultimate Terrain X v2 for whichever continent you like (if available), if not then ORBX stuff (Vector + LC) ActiveSky Next (Weather Engine) - YES (or AS16, I would skip ASCA) REX TD and Soft Clouds (Cloud textures) - YES FSUIPC - YES The VATISM-client - VPILOT What do you think? Is there other ones i forgot? + ORBX Trees + GSX (+ PFPX) With this you have a good base, upon you can simply buy aircraft after aircraft and scenery after scenery. As Ryan said, do not go crazy and start buying bunch of airports, scenery or aircraft. Pick a route between two addons you might like, see that all fits a bit together, and buy the package. Go fly.
  2. I disagree. You *can* go outside, and it might even look OK, depending how dev made it. Does it look as detailed as an external view of the aircraft (spot), probably not. See below... (didn't compare it to external view, but you get the point) http://oi68.tinypic.com/smelb8.jpg
  3. You could provide a little bit more information. What a/c? Did you test any other aircraft? Which EZdok version? How does it look like in the cockpit?
  4. I get a feeling I'll get flamed, but here it goes: As of v3.3 I've been running unlimited in P3D + vsync on and nothing else (my monitor is 60hz). Settings are custom, but nothing extremely high, my GTX980 is not being overloaded (settings matched) and 6700K is overclocked to 4.8. I often get 60fps (often even on the ground and especially in the air, and that with the NGX), which produces extremely smooth movement. Constant 60fps is not possible (yet), but my FPS are always higher than 30, almost never below. I stopped looking at the shift+z, as when the FPS drop (extreme clouding for instance, and there is no NI AA) I can really feel that (usually somewhere around 25fps, if it's really bad). In any case, I can't identify any blurries, like...ever.
  5. I don't know about you, but my water seems quite OK to me, just tried it. Have REX4TD with SC and P3Dv3.2, all up to date and installed clean recently.
  6. The answer is quite simple in my opinion, and tests... (I see many answers before mine, but here is mine too): If your 780 neither maxes with VRAM nor is running at 100%, then a new GPU won't bring any improvement - because you are CPU limited. When 780 becomes limited (your SGSS test), then 980 will show its power.
  7. I guess it's gonna be a while until everything is nice and tidy. Until then, we'll have v3.5 and an imminent release of v4
  8. If it's only two months old, warranty is your best friend, however I risked doing a BIOS-flash with the AMIFLASH tool on my half-dead-mainboard (you have to be able to boot into windows) and I completely fixed it. Now, the first steps, which are not breaking the warranty are definitely doing the complete CMOS-reset, including taking the battery out and disconnecting the PSU (either cable off the mainboard, or power-off on the PSU). If that doesn't pull it out, the Flashback is your next best chance. If you are able to get into windows without changing anything in the BIOS (overclocking, XMP, all off), then try the AMIFLASH (IF your BIOS is AMI) with program all blocks on. Not sure if the tool breaks the warranty though, since it's not vendor-specific.
  9. Well, well. Look here, I managed to fix the computer. It was actually the board, specifically the BIOS. It went corrupt and no flashback has been able to fix it. Only if I managed to boot into windows, executing the AMIFLASH and flashing the last bios with the option program all blocks on did I manage to revive the board. Now it's working like before, and I could swear it is more stable in the USB-area. Anyway, just wanted to share the "solution" to my problem.
  10. So it wouldn't even be that stupid of an idea to get the mainboard now, so I possibly get a working system, since Gene VII will support 2600K afaik. And then when all prices drop, get the rest. Replacing my 2600K wouldn't even be that stupid, since OCed to 4.6, 4790K should basically outperform the 2600K at 4.8. Not to mention the PCIEX3 and faster RAM. It should altogether be faster than the current setup. Still the question is open what will Skylake do to the FSX/P3D...if anything.
  11. Yes, however I think the mainboard is mainly dead, and possibly CPU and RAM. However, the fact that CPU and RAM don't play well, goes to kinda show that mainboard might be the main cause. However I can't buy a new mobo (eg. Gene VII) and stay compatible with the Skylake... only 4790K. That would probably be the first step, to see if the problem is solved.
  12. I consider myself relatively knowledgable when it comes to IT and home-computers. Yesterday my computer seems to give in, like completely. I can very rarely boot, BIOS doesn't work with memory XMP settings, there are no overclocking-options for the CPU any more (they are completely missing), if I put anything more than a keyboard/mouse OR network-cable, the screen doesn't come up (no, it's no the GPU since it's working at times), BIOS flashback works only partially (I have to flash it 2-3 times), CMOS reset and battery-out brings no help, sometimes working with only one RAM, slot doesn't matter etc. I reckon that the mainboard died, and possibly CPU has some damage and quite sure one RAM has a problem. So, time to replace the bugger. The only problem is the timing, which is very bad. It is not a month until the release of the Skylake in USA, however the big question how long until it arrives in Europe. And 2nd, would it really pay off to wait, considering it will surely be more expensive than 4790K. Performance differences aren't stellar, and I question how big the difference will be in gaming computers (incl. FSX and P3D). I am considering the change from full ATX and big tower to mid-tower and micro-ATX, something like ASUS Gene VII and 4790K. I am using watercooling and SSDs exclusively, and only my pump is in the case, everything else is outside, so the heat should be least of my problems, as I plan to put in two Noctua fans, 1x 140mm front and 1x 120mm back. The idea is to build the smallest possible and the most powerful possible single GPU computer for a reasonable amount of money. Also consider I am from Europe, so... The questions are: Considering the price of the Skylake (probably higher than 4790K), the imminent release (however the question is, how imminent in Europe...) and the price of other components which are also going to be more expensive, would it even pay off to go Skylake or should I just go with 4790K? The thing that really pains me is that all CPUs, 3770K, 4770K and 4790K are not *really* faster than 2600K, and I feel like buying the same CPU, especially when it comes to FSX. It's not even that the 4790K overclocks more, so the highest possible OC is probably 4.8GHz, which is basically the same as I had my 2600K running. The new benchmarks on the Skylake also don't show much more than 5%+, which is also very disappointing. So what's your take on this?
  13. Since you are hunting for stutters or clean system, my recommendation is, above the clean list of processes and services, to run a Latency Checker. LatencyMon comes to mind. http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon Usually reveals if you have a bad networking driver, like the current series of Intel onboard NIC drivers... Btw. I do not use iTunes, but I do use the iCloud module. No problems with this.
  14. Ryan, Ideally, to use RDP over internet, you would either need RDP Gateway or connect through VPN to the other network. Both ways are, for what you are attempting and for the lack of better wording, an overkill. As Demious said, probably the simplest way is Teamviewer for what you want. Using it too much however, might spring the "commercial use" trap, and then RDP will be your only alternative choice (or buying TV).
  15. UTX v2.x + FTX Global is IMO the best combination.
  16. Identical! I don't know which aircraft you are flying, but configuring your controls via FSUIPC, flying with a yoke and using a quality addon, I hardly see any jerking, if even any...
  17. Once the (SLI) profile is out, and if it pans out to what is expected of it, I think we'll see P3Dv2 in another light. And DX12 might bring quite a few more possibilities to the table... It will, in the end, leave FSX(SE) in the shadows.
  18. But DTG are in the process of planing and preparing the new flight simulator. You must have noticed a huge thread building where DTG asks what users want from the new sim. Basically, when you read through it a little bit, you gather that most wishes already exist in FSX. So DTG might create a FSX-like simulator, complete rewrite from the base up, based on Windows 10 and DirectX 12. On P3D though, there are chances that switch from DX11 to DX12 might now be way easier than it ever was for LM. They are cleaning up the P3D from the old code, making it current. From what I understand, they said that what they are doing should enable them, in the future, much easier management of the simulator. Be that new features, optimizations, switch to 64bit or whatever is next. It makes sense if you ask me. When you look at the clean installation of FSX:SE and of P3D, there are half folders missing and way less files in the installation folder. It goes without saying that P3D is already now cleaner. Just as with any windows system, clean system (=simulator) means smoother operation. Is what P3D already delivers. I find the tech-demo amazing, and it shows exactly what would be possible. The question is to what extent is this usable in a simulator (even a completely new one).
  19. Process Monitor is not the same as Process Explorer. Procmon(.exe) monitors a single process or a group of processes for anything the process is doing. Opening registry keys, writing/reading to disk, which files, etc. It will, if you set it to show fsx.exe only, show only that - and if there is something else occupying your CPU, it won't show that. When setting Process Monitor filter, set "Process Name is fsx.exe Include". Then turn on features in the bar to your liking/need. Procmon cannot be used to quit programs. Use msconfig for that. Under Services, hide all MS services, then disable all, Startup: disable all. OK, reboot. If the problem still exists then your problem is most likely FSX-bound (which sounds already like that, through the fact that it only happens in London). If that is the case, then disabling anything in or near London would be a good idea to start the research.
  20. Antivirus? Exception(s) entered? Observe what task manager (performance) shows/does. Maybe another service/program doing the load - quit anything else but fsx and really needed services (for testing) - I usually use msconfig for that. Otherwise process monitor from Sysinternals, filter for fsx.exe, and see what it loads or tries to load. (careful with it, usually crashes EZCA, and might even freeze fsx for a while)
  21. I had a chance to test 2600K -> 4790K in FSX and P3D, and saw no real gains. The GPU was the same, GTX980, same make, components that changed were mobo obviously, RAM 1600->2400 and the CPU. Both were running at 4.8Ghz, and the FPS difference was about +7% with the 4790K (in a heavy loaded scenario with an addon airport and the NGX). So no, not worth upgrading, if the clock you are aiming for is the same. Considering 4790K runs at 4.4Ghz, and depending if you OC your 2500K, it might be or might be not worth the upgrade.
  22. Didn't break anything I could notice here. With UTX Europe v2 I have great coverage and graphics.
  23. I tested with OpenLC checked and unchecked (without UTX). Clearly could see difference in VAS load. It might be a different thing when UTX is above in the scenery lib.
  24. I turn it off. It causes higher VAS load here if left activated.
  25. Hello, I am new here and quite new to FSX in DX10. I tried it in the past, without much success, but I read only good about DX10 Fixer so thinking of trying it. I've been reading this forum a lot, and came across a problem with the sun - where the sun itself has an offset from the glow/corona. Has this issue been fixed, and how does the Fixer work in companionship with REX4-TD? I have it and it has lots of textures I like for sun and the glow, but was wondering if it's compatible with the Fixer? I also have to ask at their forum about the compatibility, but thought to check here first. There is no demo-version, right? Thank you. Simon
