EGLL - Managing the Descent Between ETVAX and BIG
The Dover and Lydd sectors at London Centre were once among my validations , and while much has changed over the years, certain things remain constant. The level restriction at Biggin is critical for establishing an approach vector and maintaining spacing from the Ockham hold, regardless of whether easterly or westerly operations are in effect. To simplify the process, descent from jet levels typically begins before the French coast, with an early transfer to London Control. As a result, the intermediate levels depicted on the chart are generally irrelevant, since the descent profile will be with ATC guidance. Some things may have changed so more recent real life experiences could vary.

Local Legend 23: Fokker F-27 Friendship
That’s an impressive manual for its price point. It’s interesting in that, to achieve cruising altitude, it suggests climbing to your desired level +200ft and then dropping down into cruise—sometimes referred to as “getting on the step.” In over 40 years in air traffic control, I’ve never seen an Fokker F27 perform this manoeuvre—only one cargo pilot flying a Viscount out of Dublin ever requested permission to do so.

Local Legend 23: Fokker F-27 Friendship
It's worth the low price as a bit of fun but it's one for the Hangar. In the 1970s, I flew jump seat on Air Anglia Fokker F27s, though this flight deck seemed more rudimentary than I remember. What I do recall vividly is climbing steeply to FL230 above the weather, fully loaded, departing Paris Orly — and this aircraft handled it effortlessly. On the downside, the onboard sounds are inaccurate and resemble ocean waves rather than the characteristic drone of two Rolls-Royce Dart engines.

BlackSquare Caravan Professional out
Just opened the passenger version so far. There seems to be a sound issue. I can't hear the engine and other sounds are barely there. Perhaps I need to reinstall. EDIT: A reinstall/repair has fixed it :)

New FSW Learjet native to FS2024 soon!

New FSW Learjet native to FS2024 soon!
I bought the new version of the 2024 model with my $20 rebate this morning as having no great affection for the Lear , I was undecided until then. I'm a lazy simmer and always found that flying the Lear accurately took more than average effort. Well this new model looks , flies and sounds great. For me the latest updated version of the 2024 model is worth the money. I can't report any bugs but I had to completely uninstall the 2020 version to make it work.

Waiting for Authentication
I've just started OK using a Brazilian VPN and now running without a VPN from the UK. Maybe it's back?

Where did the cows go?
Asobo are quite something and can still surprise when least expected. After crossing the Sahara Desert to the Malian town of Tessalit I was landing at an unmarked airfield just west of the town. Between two parallel strips of asphalt were about a dozen Camels that appeared to be programmed to run as I got closer.

Getting Ready For the IniBuilds L1011!
It was probably the most complex of the early wide bodies with sophisticated lift control. Climbing out of Paris one Thundery night and with the lights flickering , I saw the ceiling move in the opposite direction to the floor. I know about flexible wings but flexible fuselage. That was a British Airways example and my last flight on L1011s.

New - Seafront Simulations Global Shipping 24
I used GAIST in 2020 and loved it, but this software is what I'm using in 2024 and very happy with it. Purchased through the Marketplace, it's incredibly easy to get started, although my original purchase through Contrail was problematic when I tried to upgrade. (By the way, the Seafront website offers a free Channel Islands Package.) It works offline, though I use it in Real Time mode, which covers most live traffic. Ferries and cruise ships are included, although my regular RoRo ferry across the Irish Sea looks nothing like it does in the sim.

BlackBox BN2 Islander
There's no clipboard in the 2024 version. The 2024 is without question the poorest version of all the BN2 aircraft ( graphically and flight dynamics ) and for me it was quite a shock having enjoyed the original offering. An update has made the performance a little more realistic but right now only the Turbine version seems worth flying. Having spent hours flying as a passenger in a BN2 I had expected better.
