You can buy either 2024 Store or Steam version and your 2020 aircraft will be available in the 2024 Store or Steam version. One caveat though .... they are 2020 aircraft, not updated to FS2024 standards. Don't take my word for it, read it yourself from the devs. Thanks for clarification! I thought I'd heard it in one of the interviews pre 2024 release... but as you (and others) pointed out, the purchases carry over between MS Store and Steam! June 10, 20251 yr Author Thank you guys for all the replies! You gave me lots of points to think about. I guess I'll go with Steam and Standard. Since I use Lossless Scaling FG, I have already Steam running, so it's not a problem for me. Also, I prefer to have control of my folders. Regarding edition, since I already have 2020 Premium Deluxe, I already have the planes I care about. The only ones I'd miss are the 744s, and maybe the Saab, but I've heard horror stories about the latter, and I understand there's no way to convert the former to a pax version. I hope PMDG doesn't take long to release theirs. For the ones who said that my 3060Ti wouldn't be enough, I agree somehow: during last weekend I was able to trigger the low performance warning a couple of times (despite having my settings in Medium). After checking in developer mode, I'm mostly short of VRAM and then GPU. I'm considering to upgrade to either a 5060Ti 16 GB or a 4070, but that's for another thread. I have 2020 on MSStore and msfs checks for updates every time it starts and downloads them if available. Afaik this is exactly the same process with steam as it is handled by the sim not the platform. It would be impossible to have fewer steps to updates. MSFS is the only game I have on MS Store and I have used Steam for years for most games I play. I have had no problems with the MS store since installing msfs. The only real advantage I can think of with Steam is the back up and restore function. I do not understand why other platforms haven't implemented a similar feature. It is possible to achieve something similar with MS store installed games and it is less of an issue with the smaller 2024 install. However, I haven't yet bought 2024 mainly because I can't decide which edition to get. I didn't buy any of the FF or LL aircraft for 2020 so I am tempted by the Aviator edition but I see that some of the aircraft have serious bugs and I am not sure whether I would fly the aircraft enough to make it worth it.

There are 30 aircraft exclusive to the Aviator edition. How many of them are you interested in? In my case, I'm only interested in the ATR, but I already have it. I have thus no reason to pay $70 over the Premium Deluxe (or $130 over the Standard edition). For starting from scratch, I guess I'd have given it a try. Somehow I fear the offers for MSFS 2028 won't be as generous as the ones for 2024. It works differently/better today, although I never had issues back in the early days with 2020 either.
