June 5, 20251 yr One can do with X-Plane whatever one likes - but one needs to be aware of the implications and consequences and be ready to bear them. This requires a certain maturity and knowledge - which probably most people frequenting this forum have. It is however a fact that less savvy users used Reshade liberally and ran into problems with it - and held these problems against Laminar Research and X-Plane and did not enjoy the product anymore as a result. So much, that Laminar felt the need to ban Reshade for regular users (you can only run it with a certain switch, which is beyond the technical expertise of those who should not run Reshade). Laminar has noted the use of ReshadeTFAA and are not exactly enthusiastic about it. Edited June 5, 20251 yr by Litjan

Laminar has noted the use of ReshadeTFAA and are not exactly enthusiastic about it. As far as technical expertise needed to activate reshade, A. it's simple and B. there are numerous videos for those that are clueless about reshade to figure out how to install it in about a minute. Once loaded, all they need to do is start checking presets that have been created and can be found for download. It's actually quite simple. I'm glad L/R left us an option to utilize reshade, especially at night, that is where I find XP12 wanting! L/R may not be enthusiastic about reshadeTFAA, doesn't mean many users feel the same way, just look at ortho. How many users have gone out of their way to learn Ortho4XP to create their own tiles, and/or use AutoOrtho or Google Map... They even have a subscription Pro version. That has what to do with L/R's lack of enthusiastic response in the inclusion of ortho, that same lack of enthusiasm holds true about reshade. Your tone is that of a headteacher talking to his 12 year old pupils. I think you did. And you can well see why. If you dont wantva response dont post. And if you should feel like a 12 year old, im glad, i feel more like 90.

June 12, 20251 yr Author The reshade thing is a hangover from MS systems and DX9. No longer applicable with XP - all your doing is adding a filter. Lossless scaling - sceptical that there is a magic fix for multi-core threading! Map enhancement or ortho - sure for those dedicated enough - I will wait for some proper scenery changes via base stuff - that get it as good as Global Vector was with FSX - mesh dependant on satellite data will always be gaps in good mesh! Don't know why Laminar just do not get Orbx to do all their world landclass sets for XPlane - would not be that hard - I would pay a fee for it. VFR without Ortho is my bug - you can but not well not in the way I could say look out the window in real life and compare it with the detail on a WAC or ONC. Just do not get that picture. Simple Ground Services is a must as is Live Traffic both take and enhance for very little overhead at all, SGES is very clever, they are good tweaks. Oh and the traffic volume and speed needs to be turned down and get rid of those stupid lamp posts on any place you care to name - and what about dirt roads? So no tweaks on my system at all runs just fine. Pleasure to use and remarkably high quality optics and flight characteristics.

Yeah, but those filters adds some amazing effects for night flight, something that is not possible without it, so it's very applicable! An ongoing project, that type of view is not possible without reshade. Hi, Going back to my real world days in the air over New Jersey, New York and Long island I prefer a mix of the new led lights along with some of the older Mercury (blueish tint) tube lighting. Just one of the reasons why I created my own night lighting edits, I also don't like the star effect around certain lights that cameras would pick up in a photo, I've never see those star effects in the real world looking at them directly, during inclement weather you may see a small halo. As far as daytime, a few items stick out, that haze that never goes away!!! I flew out of KISP on clear beautiful days and could see Manhattan in the distance, not possible in XP12 on any day, there are other items as well. Then there is the pop that reshade brings to the table that's not possible without it, there are endless possibilities using a variety of filters. L/R is working on an entire sim, I've taken a very small chunk and dedicated a ton of time in tweaking them, I wouldn't expect out of the box items to look better. June 12, 20251 yr About Reshade, I never understood why this entry always appears in my LOG (Xp12). 0:00:00.000 I/GFX/VK: Disabled ReShade : This layer is known to cause issues such as crashes with X-Plane. Use --allow_reshade to bypass, you have been warned! This message is strange because I have never installed and used Reshade with Xp12. I installed Reshade (long before Xp12) only in Xp11.55r2, and I use it only with Xp11. Currently in my Xp11 folder there are indeed the "Reshade/shader" folders and the related files "reshade.ini", "reshade.log", etc. And it is correct. But in the Xp12 folder, there is absolutely nothing that refers to Reshade, no folder, no ini files, nothing at all. Why then XP12 tells me (in the LOG) to disable Reshade in XP12 if Reshade does not exist in my Xp12?
