Quickest way to skip walkaround/preflight (SU2)!

Featured Replies

As we all know you have to use SHIFT-C to get in (and out) of the cockpit at the start of the flight. Now SU2 beta offers a new option to skip the pref-flight part (remove chocks and covers etc.): you can assign a key to QUICK PREFLIGHT. So get into the cockpit ASAP (a lot of people hate it that you can start in the cockpit right away) you need to press the newly assigned key and then SHIFT-C . Nice improvement. Great! But... this can be done even quicker...!

Tip of the day: assign SHIFT-C also to QUICK PREFLIGHT!

(If you use another key to get into the plane then assign that same key to this new function. Duh.)

So: you start a flight, click on Ready to fly and then simply hit SHIFT-C to 1. remove all chocks etc. and 2. get into the cockpit in one go! Just tested it a few times and it works like a charm.

Note that the QUICK PREFLIGHT option only does its thing at the very start of the flight: pressing it again (and again) won't do anything anymore. It's not a toggle or something. So after skipping these (according to some) unwanted and unneeded steps you still can use SHIFT-C all the time to get in and out of the plane. No problem at all.

I wish they would just make it a menu option. Now I have to load the sim, click ready to fly, and now I have to assign a bunch of key bindings to do what every other sim was able to accomplish.

I take my hat off to all Asobo programmers/designers, but man, there are cases that I don't know what are drinking or smoking, this is one of those cases, I mean, why isn't there a menu option for such a simple action, it just is beyond me.

I would make more sense to make it mandatory within career mode, but not in free flight.

Nice find! This should be added to the Tips & Tricks subforum.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9. XP11 and 12 installed, just for curiosity.

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there for airliner ops. FSX-SE also installed, just in case. Lossless Scaling in al my rigs. What a godsend...

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

Have they also sneakily added a way to hide the info on screen when on foot? (yet another poor game design)

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Now if we could just get a quick way to skip the dumb 'accessibility' option on startup that I'm sure all of 0.000000001% of the user base ever actually uses...maybe by SU18 or so.

On a related note:  when it launches to the walk around, I use the direction keys to move but mouse to look.  The problem is my mouse isn't smooth moving at all.  I've blown off the red light w/ dust off in case anything there might impact.  So the net result is very poor panning while moving.  Mouse motion in cockpit seems fine FWIW.  Also, might there be keys assigned to change look while moving that I missed?  I actually bought the Walk Around manager a few days after installing so rarely walk around anyway but I would like to if the animation was very smooth, like it might be in a First Person Shooter game or other.
