FS2024 is not ready ... and shouldn't be released

*sigh*

I cant be right or wrong because I haven’t made any claims about how ready or not the sim is for launch.

The only thing I’ve said is that it’s daft to extrapolate a launch readiness claim from this telemetry testing alpha build.

Make sense…?

Look you obviously are triggered by my comments regarding the state of 2024. As i have stated before, my opinion comes from comments made by those who were invited to preview the product, Jorg’s comments that the code was close to a frozen state, the build date of the alpha being two weeks ago, Jorg cancelling an event due to 2024 still needing a lot of work (his words), the actual results of the alpha, AND four years of experience seeing how releases go with this team.

It is my opinion based on leading software projects for over 30 years. What are your creds in this matter?

  • It must be so frustrating for the devs / Jorg to drop in on threads like this, having explicitly and repeatedly told us it’s an alpha for telemetry sourcing, to say on the intro page for the download

  • Sounds like you missed out on a fortune making money for the most popular sim ever made.     Questionable business decision.

  • With all due respect,   If the mentality of some strong voices in avsim had their views we would all still be on a broken P3d platform. It really does seem to be the place for the metaphor

Just saw someone on reddit did a comparison between a road in MSFS 2020 and the same  road in MSFS 2024.  The road in MSFS 2024 looks extremely bad.  This just goes to show its an alpha and that we are given a very limited build to test.  Like connect the dots and ask yourself why is some parts of MSFS 2020 looking so much better than 2024.

The top pic is MSFS 2024

Also on that note, any comparison between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 should be put on HOLD.  We simply do not know how much we are missing in this limited alpha build and it is disingenuous to compare them as of now.  Wait till it release is the right thing to do.

How can this be made clearer?

The alpha is for telemetry only.

If I'm trying to get telemetry, I want to do a lot of small transactions but there's no need to try to destroy my servers. I'm probably testing the ability of the server to manage so many parallel connections - don't need to necessarily do a stress test because we know the available bandwidth of our own system. In that case, I might not care about the actual quality of the data being streamed, I just care about tracing that data.

"It's not ready for release" yeah you're playing a stripped down tech demo that isn't remotely close to a release candidate. And all of you were warned.

Asobo will probably learn their lesson and this sort of test for 2028 will be under embargo/NDA.

It was probably pretty silly to do it without one... more than a few cases of AAA game studios recently shipping a tech demo to journalists and their publisher cancels the game 2 weeks later... but that's a whole different situation in a different industry.

I wonder if the router crash/problems they had at the preview event directly led to this alpha test? I haven’t checked to see if this alpha was announced before or after the preview.

The previews of 2020 were far more attractive than the game proved to be upon release. Still, 2020 has always been a masterful sim. I predict the same for 2024. I seem to recall a Mad Magazine article years ago comparing Coming Attractions Trailers to the actual film, LOL.

There are tools available to load test a server. You can select how many connections you want to test, script in whatever other stuff you need, and it can be stood up in a day or two. They are checking a recent build to see how it performs, most likely based on the issues they had at the preview.

This you?

“But you can’t have it both ways. Either the alpha software being tested is not representative of the underlying code, or it is. If it isn’t then the value of the test is suspect. If it is, then Houston, we have a problem.”

Given your comments about your free speech being under threat in the other thread, I have a feeling you like to throw around the word ‘triggered’ quite a lot. Edit:sorry, that wasn’t you, but it’s in the same ballpark😅

Hilarious thread. Seriously, it's a game in the end and some people need to get a life.

Totally agree we are lucky to have had 2020 and now 2024, can't please some

I'm really grateful for what we have with msfs 2020 and will install 2024 on a Separate drive and play around with it, worse case it sits there for 12 months until sorted

If 2024 didn't come along could potentially be left with no sim in the future, Microsoft like all companies are about profits, just enjoy the great sim you have, no need for doom and gloom, it's a game, sim whatever you want to call it

You are now also confusing posters. Try to keep up.

So many people bringing up the release of 2020, which was likely pushed forward at least 6 months to capitalize on everyone working from home during the pandemic. You can't compare this release with 2020.

Personally, I'm thankful Asobo gave us a sneak peak, even though some people obviously didn't deserve to be involved in this test. Their data was analyzed either way.

I'm hoping all of the doomsayers don't bother buying this on day one... saves some server bandwidth for the rest of us 😄

No, its not a game. It's a simulation. There is a difference.

Ok then it's a gameulation

For some it probably is. It depends on the user. If you fly default aircraft on an xbox with an xbox controller then yes, it is a game. But if you have all the add on peripherals and study level addon aircraft then it is more a simulation ie. I can replicate real life scenarios with a very good sense of realism. It's more of a learning platform (and you probably don't even know it).  I train in a real world flight simulator, is that a game or a simulation? My point being that the lines are blurred so let's not demean a state of the art product as just a game.
