Historical weather planned for MSFS 2024

With this announcement that they will only provide historical weather for just 24h it is already clear now that we will need third party weather addons in MSFS2024 as well.

You might, I could care less.  The way I use MSFS it's never to see how things might go last month.  I will appreciate being able to duplicate weather appropriate for time of day when I fly in areas in other hemispheres so once again zero need to duplicate weather last week or what have you and I suspect that is the case for the vast majority of users.  Glad they won't waste programming resources for more than 24h worth.

Glad to hear this good news.  Looking forward to any and all improvements in weather capability.  Finally, historical weather!  I wonder what changed to make this a priority now after all this time be

24 hours at least covers all of us who want to fly daytime with the correct weather when we sit at our computer in the evening after a hard day of work...thats fine, i think.

  • It sounds like they are tying the time-of-day slider to the weather depicted.  That's how it should have always been.  I mean, they tied the light depiction to the time-of-day, and not the weather?  I

The few times I used Historical weather in P3D, was when there was severe weather somewhere, like a snowstorm, or squall line somewhere.Almost never was that in the last 24 hours. The 24 hour thing for me, probably will never be used.

To me, it's just fun to see that there was a severe storm in Denmark a few weeks ago and set up historical weather to go fly around. I know I could manually set layers and winds etc but, frankly, that's too much work. I justr pick the cofrrect day and all the nuances are set up for me. It's just a handy feature.

Disappointing. I was hoping to recreate some World War II flights using the actual weather at the time.

When you run Active Sky r Rex you are giving those companies access to your computer; MS does not really care about this as you are taking all the risk. But opening live weather, even providing a detailed SKD of it, opens potential vectors to attack, and there are bad actors out there always looking for attack vectors. I just don't see a way around that given the current design.

I’m just amazed by your level of knowledge on this topic. Same goes for many other people here on Avsim. Learn something new every day 🙂

I really hope you can still use Live weather with different time of day.  I generally like to fly daytime as this is when I fly in real time and the contrast of dark computer and light outside is never great.

Mark - that is the exact definition of historical weather and why AS implemented it originally. The second you change the time it becomes historical weather but technically it is "live" at the time.

This potentially creates a huge problem on Vatsim when people may want to fly in daylight but have the wrong weather for the airport.  I hope we have both options but it looks like nobody really knows how this will be implemented in practice.

That sounds good but I suppose you also didn't see a thunderstorm or any other type of weather (different than the one you are flying in) somewhere on the horizon... It's great seeing different types of weather in the distance and to fly towards it or to evade it. AS active mode can't do that. It's all the same everywhere.

Different preferences I guess. It's still only been a week since release, so too early to be 100% definitive about which one I prefer. I'll say this though: so far AS has impressed me; I think overall it generates a much more convincing and realistic cloudscape.

So I guess it boils down to: do we want the most realistic cloudscape - or do we want fronts / global weather. I'm leaning towards the former at the moment.

Btw just used historical weather for the 2nd time - to make a replay video of a flight I did more than 24hrs ago - that I didn't have time to finish at the time 🙂

The reason they can't back port it to 2020 is because of how different the weather system is in 2024.

Honestly, this is the most exciting aspect of the announcement.

I agree - 2024 is really an unknown quantity. TBH, what scares me is they thought the 2020 weather was fine so other than cinematic clouds and hopefully realistic wind effects it may be different but not necessarily better. Only time will tell.  I really like most of what the HS/Asobo team has done but they've also done some strange things too. Like everyone else, I can only wait and see

After the SU7 issues that still persist I'm not holding my breath in what they say, the proof is in the pudding, I want to see it in action and not listen to more hot air.

No matter how good the new weather system of MSFS20924 will be, there will always be aspects that could be added, improved or enhanced by third party developers. I hope MS/Asobo will do themselves and all users the favor to allow third party addons to do that.

But one question is: How can i tell Simbrief to take 24hrs old weather?
