My *only* 5 XP12 selected aircraft....

For me it’s the Hotstart Challenger 650 and Toliss A320.

Default Baron in XP12 with REP from Sim Coders. Figured that plane would be most well featured for whats new in XP12 and I needed an a/c that had ice boots and can fly in icing conditions.

That said, I am now strongly looking at this Thranda C206 as a second a/c

Considering the C47 is the Mil ver of the DC3, its not that much different really.

Different avionics fit including antennae, less insulation, navigator station instead of luggage compartment, astrodome, reinforced floor, the really obvious loading door for oversized cargo, no lavatory in the back, sawn off tailcone for a tow hook. And that's just off the top of my head.

Even their advertised "DC-3" isn't a DC-3, but a modernized C-47.

Good models regardless.

From my understanding, VSL one has an "easy" mode?

Yes, but all it does is tie the tail wheel to rudder input to make it steerable. Torque still needs to be accounted for.

Good combination; lots of fun.

Maybe so, but in the end the pretty much still the same plane. till you put a turbo prop on them.

I'd pick

Vskylabs DC-3 with the FMOD experience sound mod

Rotate Md-80 X-Plane 12

Cessna 206 (Thranda)

Laminar Default Piper Cub

X-Craft ERJ series (with some reservations as it is not fully XP12 compatible)

Bought VSkyLabs DC-3 AND C-47. It wipes the floor with Leading Edge. It's actually possible to taxi!

Also got me a FF 757 and Toliss A340. Wonderful planes!

T-45 basic mil trainer, plain old enough to not be complxe, in fact i think you can even get the whole handbook for it, something for those stress release moments. And no one is really doing Naval planes so you have something different. Just saying.

I’ll keep it mind as some kind of a side project.

No personal offense. 🙂 But it's the ONLY purchased aircraft on XP12 that I regret purchasing. Visually, it's beautiful work. Flying is great... My problem with the LES DC-3 is simple - it's entirely useless for my hardware, which is a laptop with an Airbus sidestick with a single throttle slider. It is literally impossible to taxi without wanting to ragequit and fly something else. The "assists" don't really do anything that meaningful. Either you are going in a straight line or... you are going in a straight line. Any attempts to turn require you to already have some ground speed. Which is difficult to do if you are standing still and require, let's say to do a 180 turn right away. You are just not gonna be able to do it without running into buildings, etc... The reason VSkyLabs wipes the floor with it is that I can press that fictional button on the panel that allows me to turn/taxi using rudder joystick twist. That is IT. I was thinking about keeping the aircraft installed just because visually, it's a marvel and it flies well, but what's the point when I will never want to fly it cause I can't get it to the runway? Every time, the VSkyLabs one will win, cause I can get to where I need to be. If you are ever willing/able to fix the taxiing issue (which requires a will to sacrifice realism for the sake of simming cause I am too mobile and it's impractical for me to have a desktop PC and I require a joystick that I can use without rudder pedals so that I can take my laptop with me to hotels/cities, etc...), then I will gladly reinstall and would be able to use it. Until that time, unfortunately, it was a purchase that lasted all of a week or so with only 1 full flight completed. Sorry, I am just being honest as to my reasons why I was so disappointed.

I'm not into airliners and prefer small GA aircraft and short VFR flights:

My current fleet that I enjoy using:

  • Thranda C337 Skymaster
  • JustFlight PA28 (the three different variants)
  • Vskylab's Icon A5 (Slow, but fun aircraft to fly)
  • The default Cessna 172 (Honestly, it looks and functions great)
  • Thranda U206G Stationair

Would love to see more smaller aircraft created for X-Plane 12 and some decent helicopters, but sadly things have slowed down or vanished at this point

If you enjoy the JF Pipers, you *must* add the SimCoders REP package (same for the Cessna 172).

Personally, I choose the JRollon Marchetti SF260 for all my piston GA VFR flights (also by SimCoders). Aerobatic, WONDERFUL view out the canopy, retract gear (the main thing that keeps me from 172s, et al), and choice of classic steam gauge or G1000 instruments.

For helos, esp in the GA VFR category, there is, IMHO, none better than the Ubben/Khamsin SA 315. Full Stop.

A very good freeware helo is the OH-58D available on the .org. Sounds great, flies very well, and interesting mix of transitional steam gauge & early digital green screens.

My "guilty pleasure" is the Aerobask ViperJet. Worth the spend.

p.s.: If JF ever manages to update the Hawk T1/a for XP 12 to the same standard they did for MSFS, then my oh my - it'd be "GA" nirvana. 🙂

Thanks for this... just had a look and it looks fantastic and is also on sale currently
