Is Ultimate Terrain UTX still relevant in P3Dv5

Not just vector and mesh. Coastlines are now far more detailed certainly than v3. I can’t check v4. Hence my posted images at the top.

Did you check what the v5 default scenery looked like before installing FTX Global? It may well still be an improvement over v5 default scenery but I’m still waiting for a definitive answer.

UTX is a different product than FTX Global. The former improved coastlines, added roads, rivers and bridges. The latter only changed the default terrain.

Only a quick flight through Seattle, WA. But I did notice an improvement in roads and many new bridges. I want to say there was also an improvement in the default scenery tiles but I just didn't really fly much with it default. Mostly I was just playing around with the sim by putting every single option I could find on MAX settings and flying around as it is out of the box.

@787flyer, you obviously know Liverpool well. Nice observations. I was hoping they might have featured Anfield and Goodison but the owners of Man Utd probably paid more to have their stadium featured. 🤣

Ray, I think you are right re Man United's sponsorship!! 😉

One thing I'm curious about is a comparison of P3D to UTX at lower altitudes, I.E 5,000 MSL and lower.

Having flown around 5 flights now in different parts of the world I’m now satisfied that the improvements made in v5 make UTX redundant. The difference in the level of detail is negligible but v5 is more up to date.

Two main observations.

1) The brown roads in UTX always irritated me sticking out like a sore thumb. In contrast the grey roads in v5 blend seamlessly.

2) The rivers from altitude in v5 appear more prominently than I think they do in real life. Again, stick out like a sore thumb but not really much different to them in UTX.

It’s easy to deselect all the UTX entries in Scenery Library. Give it a go and see what you think. As for me, I’m likely to uninstall UTX for v5. It’s had its day but the default scenery is now far better and crucially for the whole world including Asia which UTX never addressed.

Hi,

I tested also without UTX and find at least graphics for roads much nicer. What about Orbx LC Europe, do you recommend?

Thank you.

Don't have it, sorry. But looking at the default P3Dv5 scenery it's hard to justify anything extra.
