This is a great response, and you are correct, this will work.  If basing the data off a METAR parser and then feeding it to the generation pipeline, you should be able to get the exact same results across both clients.  METAR -> .CreateAtmosphere() and we're done.

That of course depends on the graphic pipeline and code architecture. 

Don't get me wrong, I'm still wanting X-Plane to succeed.  I have zero knowledge of their financials and for all I know, none of this matters and 90% is coming from mobile.

The advantage here has to go to Asobo though, because they could develop that entire pipeline from the start, anticipating.  It's incredibly more difficult to do with an existing codebase, which can be like trying to steer the Titanic.

Perhaps Titanic isn't the best thing to use here.  A cruise ship (just not the Costa Concordia).  

Anyway, this is a thread about X-Plane 12 shaders and I won't derail it further.

But those electric school buses are likely $300,000 a pop, so I think it is safe to assume from his recent $1.2million donation to the South Carolina school system their financials are rock solid.

I think its also worth noting, that even after the recent reno races release, XPlane 11 and MSFS2020 active user count on steam in absolute terms are practically identical, with 1 or 2 thousand users difference between them in an industry where success is measured in the hundreds of thousands of users.

This is a really interesting talking point, which Ive seen argued in many contexts, and neither side has me convinced.

To me it depends on how much "technical debt" there is in the existing codebase, and both LR and Asobo are clearly fighting with a lot of that albeit in different ways.

Personally I give the advantage to the team not working to artificial deadlines imposed by suits that think the internet and the e button are the same thing.

Its also a talking point very on topic, since Im pretty sure the tree shaders on the vulkan pipeline LR have shown off are not just entirely new to XPlane, but the industry as a whole.

Is there something wrong with that? Your tone is very unwelcoming and sarcastic. I was a long time XP11 user. I can pop in here as much or as little as I feel like. Without the sarcasm, thanks.
