Microsoft/Asobo proved they're pandering to console users

@pmb I'm not sure I'm properly decoding the tone of your answer, so I'll take this only from a positive standpoint and thank you for your honest feedback!

NB: in case my tone wasn't clear either, I was just pointing out some of the visuals concessions which I have reported and are still there, but I'm not judging whether they are relevant for everyone, just stating their mere existence. Of course my technical background is making me seeing these technical things from the angle of the developer, and this is why I'm documenting these in order to provide what I hope is valuable feedback to Asobo, but I can assure you I'm a simmer as well and there are other things which are making me both liking and disliking it for many different reasons as a user. As the latter, I believe I'm like you, wanting to simulate flying a plane with proper main functions in pretty scenery, that's it!

Yeah, like when they added contrails, or fixed the water masks, or added dust effects...

Yes right, they lowered the visuals

Everyone knows that

I just finished the discovery flight in New York City on my 8 inch Fire HD tablet.  It was astonishing.  It was being streamed from my Series X and it was amazingly smooth and easy to fly.

That being said, it wasn't perfect.  There was quite a bit of sound cutout due to network connectivity on my wireless.  Moving my tablet to the 5.0 ghz wireless network helped alleviate that a bit, but not completely.  Yes, There's still work to be done.  But this is almost worth the price of Game Pass Ultimate alone.

But being able to fly the Cessna using an xbox controller bluetoothed to the tablet, and land successfully at KLGA was unbelievable.  This particular flight wasn't quite as successful.  The AI pilot isn't very good.

I have no way to compare what I saw last year to what I see now, that would be more perception than reality. When it first came out it was such a massive visual improvement to anything that I had before that it appeared perfect. Once you become used to that level of visuals then the picking apart arrives.

I don’t remember what it looked like either but I do recall complaints since launch about missing tropical water masks, LOD degradation, trees draw distance, ocean waves not being as realistic, night light rendering issues, and clouds being pixelated. (I may be forgetting other issues). Was any of that addressed recently? Last time I played (a few months ago) none of these had been addressed for the better

Now we have a situation with pop-in and LOD when panning the camera.

I think that folks that fly low and don't use addons will like this update very much.  Going above FL200, the ground gets very blurry.

What are your LOD sliders set to?

The ground getting blurry might just be textures not getting streamed fast enough because of server load.

But think about what we had before. Thousands of dollars of addons and we could only get close. Now this level of perfection for 60 bucks, and we start complaining about performance and even more graphical features. They add more graphical features, and we keep moaning on about performance. Finally, they fix performance - and for the majority of people, it's a massive improvement - while slightly downgrading visuals, and we start moaning about that. This is, as Richard Hammond once said, "Radio old, where we complain about the prices of things and how young people are these days."

I was at FL250 in a flight between New York and Boston. I looked down expecting to see the horrible textures that everyone had been talking about, and what I actually saw looked pretty Sharp.

Not saying that anybody is incorrect or wrong, but I am saying that depending on your machine, circumstances, and maybe plain old luck, your mileage may vary.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

They advertised like this, and people purchased the product

Now, it looks totally different

To increase the performance, you don't have to reduce the visuals.
