30fps unobtainable but core 0 is not at 100%

@simfan1983, do you have UK2000 Gatwick? If so try a circuit departing 08R and when landing back on that runway do you start to suffer fps loss around 4nm out?

fps for me drops from a stable 30 down to 26 with noticable stutters right up to landing. Cloud and Ai (AIG) doesn't appear responsible, just the scenery design - perhaps.

@SteveW, thanks for the guidance Steve. Chillblast have their own power management configuration and all seems well according to this screenshot.

All good.

I agree with this but for me the extra heat is not acceptable, especially when the room is warn and I get close to the thermal limits. The HT on sim is not noticeably smoother or more stable than HT off, given that I have my settings low enough that the sim is very smooth and stable in 4k with high resolution textures and no blurries / jaggies.

What is considered a comfortable thermal limit?

Is this perhaps related to texture distance load settings? Possible that the uk2000 textures are reloading after the circuit, causing momentary stutter?

As a temporary test for that scenario, does fps drop so much if you set FFTF lower than 0.3?

I use CoreTemp to monitor all the cores and have a max temp figure as well as current. I like to keep max temps below 90 and average temps around 70 - 75. I've never had a blue screen with the current frequencies and really want to avoid that as a blue screen in P3D can cause all sorts of issues and restoring from a system image takes me several hours with an external USB drive. Do you think I can safely push the max temps up to 95?

I do have UK2000 Gatwick and can try a flight, but I am at 60 Hertz and do not have frames locked so I see frame rates vary a lot - but usually over 30 even in dense scenery. Maybe if I can find a suitable second monitor capable of 30 Hertz I can try and reproduce your scenario, but I don't use AI at the moment as UTL has been causing P3D to crash since a recent Windows update and even reinstalling didn't fix it (seems entirely random and can be after several hours of flight). Having AI reduces the P3D performance quite a bit but I'll try without and see if a circuit at Gatwick shows low frames. And no, I am not going to try AIG before you suggest that.

What's your cooling solution? I run a 10850k at 5.1Ghz and struggle to get above 75c at full load...

Can't see any reference to that in p3d.cfg. I have never experimented with that.

Thanks. I was never going to suggest you try AIG. As I said earlier Ai quantity has no impact on this EGKK test.

Have to add: FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=x.xx  In Main Section of Prepar3d.cfg

I use the same tool and reach 90c with my i7 9700k. It seemed high to me but I assume we are good as long as we don't reach TJmax?

my 9700k I have idling around 30C.  P3D 60-73C.  To me 90c is too hot.  Considering that chip starts throttling around 100c I don't see much head room there.  Just my opinion.

Is that max temp for individual cores? Are you water cooled?

I have a be quiet Dark Rock 3 Quiet CPU Cooler but the case has limited airflow as it's a be quiet Silent Base 600 - I listen to a lot of music and like the ability to make the pc almost silent, but it's not the best for keeping everything cool, especially when it's 25 degrees plus in the room. I also probably need to clean the filters on the case!

My temps are similar if you are measuring average temps. Can you try using CoreTemp and see what the max temps are on individual cores?

Odd that needs doing. Does it have a benefit? Why don't LM include it?

Anyway, I've found a solution to the problem of fps dropping below 30 on approach. I changed Autogen and Scenery Draw Distance from High to Medium and 30 was maintained throughout. Core 0 was below 100% for the circuit except for the last 3 miles when it hit 100% but fps remained at 30.

It would be interesting to know what other users have that setting at.
