P3dv4 to P3dv5

Featured Replies

I'm probably a bit late with this but I'm still on p3dv4.5 HF3 and are starting to want to explore V5, the question is will my V4 scenery be compatible with V5, Orbx, Fly Tampa, Aerosoft, UKScenery, FSDT, Flightbeam, PMDG, Quality Wings, FSLABS, or are they a re-purchase? I'm asking here because of the wealth of knowledge instead of each individual forum.

Cheers in advance.

G'day Rod

Most, if not all of those you have mentioned work for 4.5 and v5.x. I'm not sure about Aerosoft as I don't have any of their sceneries.

If you can, and have the hardware available, you could try running v5 alongside v4,5. Once you have decided on the way forward, you can then uninstall the other,

Hope this helps

There are actually very few V4 things which don't work in V5, to the extent that if you can afford to switch in terms of the cost for the newer version, then there is very little reason not to do so. When V5 came out, I did an overview video of it which covers literally every difference. Since I made that, there have been some other patches, but generally speaking these have been tweaks to what were there in the base V5 initial version:

Alan,

That 3D airplane view anomaly is quite weird.  I've never seen that in the sim.  I do enjoy your detailed explanation of the set up screens.  Good job.

I've also been considering upgrading to P3Dv5 while waiting for  some study level airliners to become available in MSFS2020, given I've spent much money over the years for P3Dv4.5, aircraft/scenery/addons -  which I really still enjoy using , I'm considering V5 for performance increase. While considering the will I/won't I dilemma I find myself continually browsing the  FSEite compatibility list here: https://fselite.net/prepar3d-v5-compatibility/ to help with the decision making process. I'm also finding I'm using XP 11.55 more so to make up for shortfalls in the other platforms.

Thanks for the post guy's, great info, my P3DV4.5HF3 is running like a dream at the moment so will keep all the info in mind, cheers.

Rod.

On the same subject, how do people find JustSim in P3Dv5. Specifically, what do you get for the 5Euro upgrade fee, is it just some PBR textures. Do the 4.5 work adequately with some compromise?

I appreciate 5Euro isn't a lot of money but I have a number of their airports so to upgrade them all would be at some cost, not sure if it is worth it.

not scenery, simobjects which need "conversions" which is a different & not easy task

for now, cheers

This is my issue 4.5HF3 is running so well I'm hesitant to go through the efforts of migrating to 5.2 only to run into issues..   I guess I need to pull my pants up and jump in at some point LOL

my conundrum ..... i suspect it is better to invest in hardware (CPU / GPU / SSD's) to improve 453's performance than invest in 521.

comments please (cheaper & just as rewarding i guess)

for now, cheers

Do both, the $60 P3D licence is a drop in the ocean compared to what you'll spend on hardware.

No need to migrate, per se--you can add a second sim and run both.  I still do that, in large part because I like to fly to a bunch of the Orbx global freeware airports when I take a break from the heavy iron, and quite a few of those airports have issues in v5 and won't be upgraded due to the author's death.  Those smaller fields and simpler acft don't generally benefit from v5's improvements in performance, anyway.  So I fly tubeliners in v5, and bizjets, twins, and bush planes in v4.
