Modern avionics in bush planes : Overkill?

Featured Replies

That's the aviation equivalent of when you see those battered old hatchbacks driven by seventeen year old lads which have a massive fake exhaust pipe on them, but on the dashboard there is a stereo which is worth fifty times the value of the car.

Yeah, but if one steam gauge fail, you have the rest. If your screen fails. Then what?

so, if your steam altimeter fails, you can get your current altitude from your VSI?  that would be handy.

At least you can see if you are going to eat those trees under you. Is not about having all the information, just the needed one to get back to the airport/airstrip.

But hey, If you have 2 screens, no problem then. But I think I saw some aircraft here with just 1. That's why I would prefer having different steam gauges than 1 single screen.

Great graphics and some outback Australian locations too.

Well, if you look up the word overkill in the dictionary, you will find a picture of Mike Patey next to it.

Mike must have a crap load of money,  or else very wealthy sponsors!

Whoa...Top secret government project just teleported my quote over to this thread 😲👽

But, yeah, both of the Patey brothers are a great stories of when opportunity collides with a tremendous work ethic.

My simming is generally flying period aircraft in period conditions.  Before the days of glass cockpits and GPS.  So I prefer steam gauges even if the virtual aircraft is modern.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Modern avionics? Bush flying? VFR?

Why do you need fancy avionics to look out the window?

those Diego Garcia lights... I think I have to virtually travel there.

I love the Aussies.  Harold Holt, a prime minister of Australia, known for going for a swim and never being heard from again.  His countrymen have honored him by naming a Naval communications installation, and a public swimming pool after him.  👍

And we love you! 🙂

We most certainly have our fair share of mysterious incidents and conspiracies, Harold Holt's disappearance being rather high up on the list imo.

Another strange incident that is high on my list is more aviation-related: The disappearance of a young, allegedly UFO-obsessed pilot, Fredrick Valentich. Despite believing in the extraterrestrial hypothesis myself - and the possibility of a UFO cover-up at government levels - I side with the commentators who content there was no extraterrestrial involvement.

Rather, it seems like Valentich succumbed to spatial disorientation and ended up flying upside-down. The Bass Strait area where he was flying is some treacherous aviation country indeed.

UFO researchers looked into the Australian Government's archived files of the case. and reported on their findings in a blog post Despite their hard UFO-leaning beliefs, I found the blog post helpful in that I could access the archived report on my own.

Australia is quite fortunate to have a vast expanse of space in which we can support the physical and information security of other nations, particularly the Five Eyes group via the joint US/Aussie installation at Pine Gap in the Northern Territory.

We also conduct a significant amount of missile testing for other nations at the Restricted Area of Woomera

Hopefully we can continue finding ways to love and live in peace, and keep finding ways to utilise the intelligence/defense community to investigate and take action on nations/entities who do not wish to live in this way.

For the record, this thread has been hijacked  during the European night. @MatthewSpost about secret locations which has nothing to do here  was added and the topic  title changed, something only the OP (me) can do ...

Lets keep the focus on avionics in bush aircraft.

Reported to the mod team. If you cant change the title back and export the Aussie stuff to a new thread, please close it.

For the record, I actually posted that video in a new thread called "Top secret government locations in FS2020" but I think you secretly hijacked my thread in the European night and I've reported you to CIA so expect the MIB to come knocking on your any day now. 🙄

No I don’t think you hijacked the thread but it was hijacked all right and the title changed. I think that it was a wrong manipulation of a mod  but I would like to be sure. You know that any forum account is a vulnerable animal...
