Is anyone going back to FSX now after 2 days with P3Dv2?

Featured Replies

I think a lot of people forget or were not there for the launch of FSX.  I had a state of the art AMD based PC when FSX came out

and FSX ran like a dog on that PC. I couldn't even run FSX with the default slider settings. I had to back off the sliders and even then

I got some stutters around airports like KSEA.

Give LM and the "add on" makers time to some out the rough spots and I feel P3D V2.0 will be considered a milestone in Simming.

At this moment there are some addons compatible with P3D v1 and some other addons compatible with P3D v2....

As long as it is in this way I can imagine that developers are hesitating to develop scenery for v2.

What if v3 comes out next year and again needs different developed addons....

That is what the strong point of FSX is....it will never change anymore...

True..I had so many addons for FS9. Amazing stuff like Flight scenery's Flihgtzone  KPDX Portland and Rhode Island etc that would not work in FSX. Because FSX was in a standstill I now have so many addons.  It will take another 5 years for a any new simulator to catch up to that.

We got excited with P3D thinking we won't have to go through that painfull process,...but still its not going to be as bad.. We would get these addons working in P3D v2 too.

With the exception of the water in P3D v2, the sky looks amazing in P3D v2 during dawn and dusk..so much better than in FSX.

But for now I need to reinstall P3D v2 and then the Orbx textures and REX and then only load addons that are officially certified for P3D v2. Trying to load all my addons and trying to make it work is messing my the P3D setup.

and then the Orbx textures and REX and then only load addons that are officially certified for P3D v2

Then you shouldn't install REX because afaik it's not certified for v2. (And Orbx is certified but it's still bugged and not completely compatible.) I am using a completely vanilla install of P3D 2.0 right now and I am enjoying myself  more and more with the Mooney Acclaim and the A36 above (specific parts of the) default scenery. Absolutely great performance and no problems or bugs at ALL. Highly recommended. ^_^

I skipped any outside textures myself.. I'm focused on flying, not decorating right now... Especially decorations I have no faith in they are actually compatible with v2 at this point in time. The default P3D environment is fine for this stage..

I've caught myself realizing I haven't see a graphics spike or weird flashing anomalies  and wonder if the simulator is actually broke because it's running how software should without BP=0

I've caught myself opening Prepar3D.cfg only to realize I have nothing to remove, add, change, or double check in it

Once PMDG and Co bring out compatible products I MAY make a complete switch

I hate saying this, but I still think X-Plane 10 is the future, or in my case, MY future.

The Ifly 737 NGX is there in a P3D v2 version...

Someone tried it ?

Goodness!  Why not just keep them both installed, no room on the drive?

Man oh man, I apparently did not give XP 10 enough of a trial.  I installed it as a demo just a few weeks ago and wow it just didn't seem very impressive at all!  And yet, I know others really like it.

According to Steve Masson it all should work after the latest update.

Never heard of it. What is so great about a product built on a very old platform that "keeps you going back" ?

It must be an amasing product. Yeah?

That's very easy to offer a simple comparison...

I remember years ago I owned an old, beat up Renault 4, a very boxy looking thing with a strange gearstick affair that protruded horizontally out of the dashboard. It was a French car that like many French vehicles at the time was rather eccentric in it's design. My wife hated it, but I grew to love all it's oddities and strange behaviour. Eventually I sold the car for something a little more 'in tune' with what kind of car I thought I should be driving, and so got my hands on something a little more plush and sporty. The replacement vehicle got me from A to B a lot faster than the old girl that used to take pride of place on my driveway. It was quieter, more economical, the heater worked and it had great road holding and handling. However, the one thing it didn't replace was the fun and love that I used to have for my old Renault. It was a car that I didn't care if it received the old scrape along it's aged paintwork, I didn't mind that I could smell the old wood log cuttings that I used to carry behind the driver's seat, or have to start the engine in the winter 10 minutes before driving it because of the inefficient heating system, in fact I really missed the car once she'd gone. That's how things are in life. It's far too easy to dismiss things simply because they don't fit into how we think things should be. The more we invest in something, the more we understand it's value and worth to us. I believe, like many things, that FSX is the same. All the tweaking, all the heartache is a pain in the arse most of the time, but she gives us fun and pleasure, but more than anything I believe FSX has soul... and that, is something very difficult to replace.

Brilliant post Howard.

I had exactly the same story in the early 90s, when I sold my 17 year old Austin Mini 1000 Automatic* and bought a 2 year old Peugeot 405. (snoooorrre!)

SbuilderX is a scenery/terrain design tool or as I like to think, it is THE scenery/terrain design tool. I have gone back and found out that it does work with P3D2, which is nice to know. But using a stock and stripped down FSX install is easier than changing setting in P3D2 to use while working. For what I do, having no autogen is good and when making a change in a BGL file and refreshing the scenery the times to reload can be cut down a lot with a simple install of FSX.

Sounds interesting. I don't go as deep as that with any of my sims. It is download, install and fingers crossed that it works without bringing everything to a crawl. If it works, it works. If not it is kept for another day, another build <sigh>.

Yeah. Good reply Howard. Your posts reminds me of my first wife (highlights added by myself) - eventually traded in for a better model. Luckily she had plenty of soul and to this day remains my best friend. I just can't go back there.
