[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...

Mitch also is not using Aniso, I think that got left off the list. He's using Trilinear.

Hi Everyone,Well, I've been playing with FSX.CFG since this topic started and I have seem to have found my systems sweet spot. These are the changes/additions I've made to FSX's config file. I'm using Nvidia 197.13 Beta drivers.[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024[Display] - (I'm using Nicks - Small halo.bmp)RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=2.4RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.4RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 - (I'm using FPS Limiter, Locked at 30)WideViewAspect=TrueForceFullScreenVSync=TrueForceVSync=True[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285.0]Mode=5040x1050x32MipBias=7[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=9.500000FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.025TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=600TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800[bufferPools]PoolSize=0[FSDREAMTEAM]AntiPopUp=100At FSDreamTeam's KJFK I'm getting 25+ FPS with smooth performance. I've also used PoolSize=500000 and I really have not noticed any difference between the two. System specs listed below.

Vsync off leads to terrible tearing here. And trilinear (like Mitch uses) isn't an option either for me. I do not mind lowering certain options (like FSAA) but vsync and anisotropic are a must... I still get best results with texture filtering at Performance. Other seem to get shimmering things with that setting, but I don't.

Hey Mitch, I know you are stable, but add to the mix locking frames... running unlimited with VSYNC off can get you over 100FPS!!! and you don't want that, steady FPS will keep the GPU from being stalled by the CPU. specially, on heavy scenery areas. So, to wrap up... if anyone reading this, wants to give BP=0 a try with no artifacts or flashes follow what Mitch has posted to the letter!1) Prerender set to 12) Vsync set to OFF3) Water on highest setting (HIGH 2.0 or MAX 2.0)4) nVidia latest drivers (197.13)5) Lock your frames to 25 or 30 (but don't run unlimited!!)try the whole combo... and if you were one of the unlucky ones unable to make BP=0 work and the above fix it for you, please share. if you are still having problems, try lowering AA/ANISO and test to see if it is preventing you from using BP=0, what you can achieve will depend on how well you CPU/GPU are in sync reading/writing to/from the command buffer, so having a very fast video card will defenitely help, specially if running a fast CPU.
-----------------------------------------------------------------I run the FPS limiter at 30 FPS with the above...and have BP=0 locked down for the long haul! Finally.......three hundred and sixty five thousand pages on this thread later, LOLOLOLOL! But hey...better 'late' than never. You have (well..I have to...) to set Prerender to a setting of 1. I had it at 3 and then 2...but generated artifacts. On a setting of 1 (one) ....I generated lots of fun and great performance and left the 'snow' in the mountains....lol.Mitch
NOK, I urge you to stop this nonsense. This topic has clearly become a topic to make BP=0 stable, no secret here. We all know FSX works (more or less) stable out of the box. Efforts of people in this thread are simply gold-worth and I urge you to stop bringing the topic down. If you have something constructive to add, please do, if not, go read something else... thanks.Ontopic:Mitch, I tried your settings. I got 3 GPU resets with them, consequentially. But I have to add: I have LOD=7,5, max_texture_load=4096 and REX2 clouds in 4096. I will bring it down and retest... What are your extended settings for quality?
Nonsense?I just told it doesn't work on my system, it's unstable! What's wrong with telling that?Yes, I'm a noob and you got +2000 posts, I DON'T CARE....The tweaks are unstable.

Mitch. About 6 months ago it was your saga regarding your new i7/285 combo that enthralled me and very soon (days!!) after I got the same combo. You were clearly delighted at the results you were seeing especially clarity and smoothness...almost to the point of flawless. Has anything happened recently to make you seek the BufferPool tweak to enhance what was already running just fine?I have followed this topic with avid interest and have been experimenting. My standard performance on SMOOTHNESS is dependent on location and settings for the peripharals like AG/AI/Weather etc, but I can always get a completely smooth flight by downgrading my settings accordingly.Like you, I have tried other OP's experimental settings advised here but in my case nothing has shown stability. I then tried your latest settings and again no joy. If I do get a result it is only for a short time without something graphically going wrong, or if I change a plane, location or weather setting FSX will not return and I get graphics glitches everywhere. My system does not like any BufferPool entry in the cfg at all.I am interested to know from you why you are keen to have a BufferPool setting of 0 which apparently works if you dumb down some of the basics like pre-render,trilinear etc when I would have thought you could achieve the same by having your graphics settings higher (like when you first got the combi) and trimming the peripherals? Please carry on with your experiments because I am sure that between all of us we could find that magic button. I for one will always try an experimental tweak because i am seeking to have all my settings running at maximum one day rather than having to "cut my cloth" accordingly.Respectfullyjc

[FSDREAMTEAM]AntiPopUp=100
Hey Mike, isn't using a value of 100 here the same as using 10? Accorging to Umberto at FSDT, with the newest version of addon manager, the highest setting is 30, which is up from the previous high of 20. So, if the addon manager is reading only the first 2 digits of that entry is it basically the same as having it set at 10? Just curious if you have tested at 30 and if there was any difference as opposed to having it at 100?Sean

Hi,Not sure what version of the addon manager I have, I'll have to take a look. If I have the latest version and a two digit max entry is all that is permitted, I'll have to change that entry in my config file. The last addon from them I installed was Honolulu International, I have not downloaded any updates since.

The latest addon manager was from Honolulu. Here's a quote from Umberto below. So if you want the objects to load farther out you could go up to a setting of 30 in that line. But if 10 is working well you might as well leave it alone.

So, the DEFAULT for this kind of objects, with the Antipop slider to 1.0, is 0.3 nm (which is quite a lot more than "20 feets"), but by using the slider, with the old version, you could have set it to 10, making the loading distance for these objects to 3 nm.With the new version, the loading distance can be multiplied up to 30x, which makes for 9 nm for the things that have the shortest range possible.

[Display] - (I'm using Nicks - Small halo.bmp)
Mike,DId that also fix the issue with AI light in the distance looking too large? Also is that part of a set of textures and do know where I can find it?
Nok, this is your last post in this thread, ok?
No, THIS is my last!Hear this:Some "tweak-geeks"* have completely hi-jacked anything here at Avsim that has to do with FSX and it's settings, and if other people dare say anything against it, or God forbid, tell them that is does not work, it's unstable, and it's a joke that you have to eradicate shaders, and what not, turn the sliders down and what not, to make them work!Come on, are you a bunch of amateurs all of you????Take a look at this thread, it's an embarrasment, nothing less... :( * Why don't they fly instead, the geeks???

Hi,I run a three monitor setup, thats why I tried Nick's small halo.bmp file, it works great and AI Aircraft lighting looks good at a distance with the settings I run. AI Aircraft lighting is not large.I don't remember the light fix filename, the file can be found here at AVSIM, just do a file search for Nick Needham.

I don't understand your animisoty and vitriol, I have used this tweak with fantastic results on two computers with all sliders maxxed and rock stable. Obviously every tweek doesn't work for everyone given different hardware configurations, but this sort of knowledge disseminated on AVsim and other sites has helped countless simmers. If you are content to move back the sliders and fly then that's great, but some people are always going to want more.Either way, I am glad you are enjoying your sim.Wait a minute, are you FSXBuster returned with another screen name?
