Greenland – West Coast Departing from Qaarsut (BGUQ) on the northeastern shore of the Nuussuaq Peninsula we make our way southward landing at small communities on the rugged and largely empty western coast of Greenland and finish at the capital city of Nuuk (BGGH). We will depart in the early morning in the soft light of the rising sun. The route is 550 miles in length which will require an aircraft capable of 250knts and able to land on short runways. I will be flying the Flyingiron P-38L in the Glacier Girl livery (which was restored to flying condition after being buried beneath the Greenland ice sheet for over 50 years). Alpine Adventure The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in the Western United States, between the Central Valley of California and the Great Basin. The vast majority of the range lies in the state of California, although the Carson Range spur lies primarily in Nevada. The Sierra Nevada is part of the American Cordillera, an almost continuous chain of mountain ranges that forms the western "backbone" of the Americas. More than one hundred million years ago during the Nevadan orogeny, granite formed deep underground. The range started to uplift less than five million years ago,[8] and erosion by glaciers exposed the granite and formed the light-colored mountains an…

  3. Over the Hills and Through the Alps of Western Slovenia For April 9, 2025 Michael MacKuen After a few years, we shall return to the forested hills and alpine mountains of Slovenia. This small country (about 2.1 million people) has long been at the crossroads of Slavic, Germanic and Romance cultures. And the territory has been ruled as part of many larger states, most recently the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. After WWII it became part of Tito’s Socialist Yugoslavia. In 1991 it split from Yugoslavia and became a member of the EU and a fairly prosperous society. Threading Through the Julian Alps Our day begins at Portorož [LIPZ], a spa and seaside resort cit…

Light Flight Sicilian Style For March 26, 2025 Michael MacKuen We shall enjoy an afternoon in light aircraft over the beautiful rugged landscape of Sicily. We depart from the small “Eagles Field” outside Paternó skirting around Mount Etna and then along the northern coast. We’ll turn south inland and then briefly to the southern coast and finally to the east to the Syracuse Flying Club home field. Most of these stops are light aircraft airstrips used for sport flying by local aviators. (For an example that includes four of our airfields, see this video.) We begin at the Campo Volo Eagles Paternó [CT15]. (This is an addon – and MSFS will give you a strange a…

They define the Santa Barbara Channel between the islands and the California mainland. The four Northern Channel Islands are part of the Transverse Ranges geologic province, and the four Southern Channel Islands are part of the Peninsular Ranges province.[1] Five of the islands are within the Channel Islands National Park. The waters surrounding these islands make up Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. The Nature Conservancy was instrumental in establishing the Channel Islands National Ma…

Lesotho, officially The Kingdom of Lesotho is sometimes called “The Kingdom in the Sky”. It is completely surrounded by another state (South Africa), which is otherwise only the case with San Marino and Vatican City. The capital city is Maseru. The government is a parliamentary monarchy. The country has not been part of the United Kingdom since 1966 but is still linked to it through the Commonwealth. The western part of Lesotho lies on a plateau called the Highveld (also called the Lowlands due to its relative position within the country). It is the main settlement area of the country and consists largely of sandstone. The Lowveld lies between 1400 and 1700 meters above s…
