The flight takes us around Adelaide, South Australia. Named in honor of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, wife of King William IV, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for the only freely settled British province in Australia, distinguishing it from Australia's penal colonies. Colonel William Light, one of Adelaide's founding fathers, designed the city center and chose its location close to the River Torrens. Light's design, now listed as national heritage, set out the city center in a grid layout known as "Light's Vision, interspaced by wide boulevards and large public squares, and surrounded by parklands. Colonial Adelaide was noted for its leading exampl…

Japan South – Chūgoku & Shikoku The Chūgoku region, the westernmost part of Honshū in Japan, means "middle country," though its origin is uncertain. Historically, provinces were classified by power and distance from Kansai as "near," "middle," or "far" countries. One theory suggests Chūgoku once referred to the "middle countries" west of the capital, but only a few included provinces fit this classification. Another explanation is that the term described provinces between Kansai and Kyūshū, serving as a key link between Japan and mainland Asia. Shikoku is the smallest of the four main islands of Japan. It has a population of 3.8 million, the least populated …

On this flight, we traverse a remarkable cross-section of New South Wales geology and climate, moving from elevated tablelands down into the western plains. Our flight departs from Armidale (YARM), which proudly holds the title of Australia's highest city, sitting almost a kilometre above sea level in the New England High Country. Because of its elevation, the city experiences four distinct seasons, including crisp, frosty winters and foggy, cool autumns when the streets are ablaze with golden and red foliage. This landscape is typically rolling, with granite outcrops, and is deeply dissected by massive gorges and dramatic waterfalls to the east, feeding into the co…

Kyushu Tour Kyushu is the third-largest and most southerly of Japan's four main islands. There is a theory that Kyushu was in ancient times home to its own independent dynasty, where a unique, southern-influenced culture and tradition distinct from that of Honshu flourished. The island is mountainous, and Japan's most active volcano, Mount Aso at 5,220 ft, is on Kyushu. There are many other signs of tectonic activity, including numerous areas of hot springs. The most famous of these are in Beppu, on the east shore, and around Mt. Aso in central Kyushu. The island is separated from Honshu by the Kanmon Straits. Being the nearest island to the Asian continent, h…

Through The Pass Redux Today's flight is a repeat of a flight we did 2 yrs ago in MSFS 2020. We will be flying over the High passes of the Himalayas in P38s. This flight is 342 miles with 10 stops. This flight will be challenging as most of the airports are at very high altitude and with only 1800' or less runways. Your approach speed will be the difference of success or failure and dive flaps are your friends, so be careful. Most all of this flight is at High altitude so if you are not flying the P38 choose carefully. We will want to go about 200 mph +. We continue our tour across Africa. This second flight departs from Yamoussoukro (DIYO), Ivory Coast. However, Abidjan remains the economic capital and is still listed as the primary capital in most international contexts, and where most foreign embassies are located.
