Simbrief to get new Takeoff and Landing calculator

On a recent trip in a PMDG T7, on a flight from Berlin to Dublin, using the FMC with the following settings of Flaps 5, TO2, 42C

FMC calculated V1=141; VR=145; V2=153

For Simbrief, using exactly the same weights and take off settings I got: V1=144; VR=146; V2= 156

So,  a max 3kt difference in some speeds which I think is OK.

Navigraph/Simbrief are only getting better and better every month!.

  • They're still around - they fix things if they go wrong - e.g. weather server etc. It's basically just a completed bit of software - no new additions.  For the most part, it is better than Simbrief

Yes, Pfpx is still my go-to flight-planning software, Simbrief is not a bad alternative but the additional level of customisation in PFPX was always nice, also a fan of the integration the Leonardo Ma

Mark, I agree. 1-3 knots is acceptable.  I will always make my final decision for Vspeeds, particularly V2 and Vapp based on those calculated in the EFB and FMC. Usually they (EFB & FMC) match,or are 1 kt difference, but when they don't match I tend to go with the EFB. I use those from Simbrief as a starting point, and particularly to get the derate and sel temp. My method may be backwards or such, but it works for me.

Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Thrustmaster TFRP. It's an older machine but gets the job done quite nicely - smooth with no stutters!

Good. I am doing the same as you Glenn. 👍It does not seem backwards to me.

I did read somewhere that the EFB is more accurate than the FMC. I dont pretend to know all the field and obstacle limitations that can apply, but If I remember correctly the EFB should take these into account but the FMC not. Providing the FMC and EFB match within 1-2 kts of each other, the EFB take off speeds take precedence and are the ones I use. Of course it all depends upon the fidelity of the EFB you have at your disposal and what it can do.

And yes, I use the Simbrief ones as a "ball park" figure so that when my aircraft payload and fuel is set, I have an independent source to help verify my plane is set up correctly.

So its good to hear that we apply the same approach.
