So from what I gather the 3D water will not really be visible by default unless we are using a program like O4XP to generate orthos?

No, 3D water is already visible somewhat in the default scenery, e.g. Bridge supports can be seen under the water, it's the reverse, bringing this ability to orthos as well.

What remains to be seen is how/when LR will add reefs, different water colours, etc..

We've had it for ages since p3dv2... Even with submersibles 😁and inclusdng the effects of bathymetry on the waves...

Yep.. I remember the bathymetry being one of those things that they promoted, but in reality, nobody (average simmers) cared or used it :P

I'm in it for the visuals

Thanks. It's not very noticeable.

They probably need to fix the OSM coastlines first. The sharp angles you see do not look natural.

Hopefully ocean waves will get an upgrade as well, with surf effects and all.

Bring back random wildlife, add schools of fish to it and somebody may just program a fishing plugin.

Actually, that would be quite fun. Index bodies of water, then, using this information, generate random "fish here" points of interest. Go there with your float plane or helicopter or maybe boat, fish, sell fish at airport point of origin, spend money on fuel and maintenance for aircraft or better fishing equipment.

I doubt that is going to happen before the big scenery system revamp.
